What the heck… I have fine hair been noticing some hair loss however today had a hand full…
any one have this problem… what do you take ?.
HELP ,!,

I have the exact opposite problem. I have more hair growing. I have areas where hair should have been growing, but hadn’t. Most notably the front of my thighs. They have had these bald spots as long as I remember having hair. I just figured it was from my pants rubbing on the hair, breaking it off right there.

I went keto about 10 months ago. Since then that area is filling in. Very slowly, but it’s getting hair back in it.

Also, I have hair growing in places I didn’t imagine it would grow. Let’s just say where the sun doesn’t shine and leave it at that.

I think even my forehead seems to have shrunk a bit. The hair line is moving back down my forehead.

I also take 10,000 iu of Vitamin D3. I started taking that about 10 years ago. I noticed several things when I started that. Allergies nearly gone. I don’t get sick when everyone else does. I seem immune to it. If it’s a particularly bad flu season, I might get the sniffles, but that’s it. And my hair and nails grow really fast. Just guessing, but maybe 4 times faster than they used to. Hair and nails. I would normally get by cutting my nails about every two months or so, and had to start cutting every two weeks. Same with my haircuts. I like keeping it really short, flat top type (think 1950’s crew cut). That cut would last me two months or more, before my ears would get grown over. Now it’s less than a month, and I’m starting to look like a certain North Korean dictator :scream: with my hair standing up on my head making me look 4 inches taller :joy:

Keto on my friend…

Did you just start keto? That can happen with some people, typically self corrects.

This is common with any major change in diet. It is temporary though once your body adjusts. And for many, like myself, I’ve noticed my hair is now thicker and growing faster.

Started in Jan of this year…

I am looking forward to that day…

When your body begins to adjust to being fat adapted, your insulin levels should be dropping to normal low levels. When that happens, the other hormones in your body that are affected by it, tend to bounce around as they find a new equilibrium.

So don’t stress over it. Just keep calm and keto on :sunglasses:

Just make sure not to restrict calories. You don’t want to give your body reason to skimp on non-essential processes in order to save energy.

This was helpful for me! I’ve been doing keto for six months exactly (today is actually my 6-month keto birthday!) and about six weeks ago, my hair started falling out. Every time I wash it, or brush it, or blow dry it, or…well…touch it, several strands fall out. I started on vitamin D3 about a week ago, but haven’t seen any big change yet. Someone suggested it might be linked to weight loss - I lost 22 lbs in the first 3 months, but have been stable since then.

I have been doing Keto since Jan and yes I continue to lose however my own hair feels so healthy… I added Biotin to my supplements…

(Pass the butter, please!) #12

I haven’t tried biotin. I’ll get some and give it a try. Thank you!

I feel your pain. If my part gets any wider I’m gonna look like Peter Boyle. Biotin didn’t do squat for me.

I’ll let you know how the minoxidil works out. I’m coming up on 2 months now of using it.

I use coconut oil as a scalp treatment … it keeps my hair shiny and healthy, and I haven’t had any hair loss. Years ago, when I worked a fairly high stress job, my hair would come out in clumps in the shower … I started using coconut oil way back then as a remedy, and have been in love with it since. I have two jars - on in the kitchen, one in the bathroom

Do you massage it in and then shampoo it out? I have very fine hair and my hair looks terrible whenever it gets even a little oily.

(Taleisha Collins) #16

I use a really small amount and massage it into my scalp, but I have really thick hair… so I don’t wash it out.
Do you use shampoo with sulfates? I have heard those can cause hair loss issues for some people if you have an allergy to them. :expressionless:

(Pass the butter, please!) #17

I bought some special shampoo for hair loss - I’ll check the ingredients. I do have loads of allergies, which being keto has helped tremendously.

Are you eating enough protein? I was not and lost half my hair in the first 6-8 months. Once I upped my protein and was eating enough calories the problem went away. It is growing in thicker than ever before and oddly enough I have no gray hairs any more. I did take dessicated beef organs as a supplement for several months to give my body a boost. Also make sure you are taking K2 with your D3 supplement!

  1. Keto Hair Loss: 6 Reasons Why It’s Happening + How to Prevent It

Minimizing Temporary Hair Loss on Keto:

7 Nutrients To Take (Lorenz Mac did not list 7 only 6 coconut oil being the last will not help):

•Biotin

•MSM

•Bone Broth (DO NOT “skip” the bone broth as the author of this article suggests and take the collagen directly; that’s where problems of processing a substance starts) MSM (methylsulfonylmethane)===>Vitamin C===>Bone Broth = to bind keratin and collagen===>beautiful hair and nails!

•Zinc

•Collagen

NOTE: MSM Sulfur (white organic powder sitting on the shelf in a clear plastic bag {usually}, stay away from pill forms of this substance; they are processed with preservatives) and the grass-fed-finished Bone Broth are the most important on this list, your are probably getting adequate amounts of zinc and biotin already?

  1. “…One of the body’s major detoxification pathways is through sulfur conjugation. …” … Sulfur is a component of insulin, the protein hormone secreted by the pancreas…” image “…The OXIDIZED (inorganic) form of sulfur is SULFATE. Dietary sulfate is poorly absorbed. Instead sulfate is produced in the body primarily by oxidation of the sulfur-containing amino acids …” …More
  1. MSM (methylsulfonylmethane/Dimethyl Sulfone)
