Had a rough night - a little lie to help me KCKO

#1

For reasons too complicated to explain here (but which I understand), I ate way too much non-Keto stuff last night. As I was psyching myself up to KCKO today, here was my approach/thinking:

  1. Did not test blood ketones this AM like I normally do. I know a .2 or .3 (down from 1.5 yesterday) would have bummed me out (and been a waste of $1.50 ketone strip!)

  2. Did not weigh myself because I know the 2 lbs increase would have been 99% water, but still bummed me out.

  3. Although this isn’t quite technically correct, I’m telling myself that some people purposely do a cyclical ketogenic diet by “carbing up” once a week or so, so let’s pretend I did that (but let’s not do it again… )

Finally, I’ll keep telling myself this…

I do much the same when I know I’ve gone a bit off track, i just wait a few days then check as i know by then things will be back to how they should be. No point beating yourself up, that’s when the crazy cycles of guilt / cravings / food start to bite.

Get up that 8th time, throw (give away) away your scales. Add a few mores slices of :bacon: and go forth in keto!

Well said, Linda. “8 times” might seem like a lot, but compare that to how many episodes it took to get us to where we made the change. (Probably 10,000 or more for me.)

Good for you. It pays to explore those reasons why and see if you can figure out some strategies to put in place next time a similar situation arises because it likely will. Be prepared!
