Grapeseed oil?

(Charlotte) #1

Does anyone know whether cold pressed grapeseed oil is problematic from a health perspective? It’s come up in my research as a good oil to use for higher-heat cooking, and it’s so much more affordable than avocado oil, but I don’t really see keto folks recommending it?

I found the best price on Avocado oil is at Costco. $10 for a large bottle. I’ve only used grape seed oil for searing.

No Costco near me, unfortunately, though the price isn’t too bad at Trader Joe’s. Grapeseed oil is like half the price of Avocado, though, so unless there are reasons to avoid it, I think it’s what I’m going to continue using most frequently.

It’s got high oxidation potential, especially if you follow the recommended instructions and use it for deep frying or high heat sauteing. It is also extremely high in omega 6 and low in omega 3 which really throws off the balance ratios. 676:1, (12% saturated, 17% monounsaturated)
