First six-day fast coming up

#1

I’m hoping to commence quarterly six-day fasts beginning in October, and could use some tips.

I have done regular intermittent fasting, usually 23/1, noon-noon, and some extended fasting up to 72 hours, so I think I understand many of the nuances of these relatively short-term periods of not eating. I’ve also done fasts for spiritual reasons over the years.

After learning of the benefits of fasts beyond 4 days, I’m ready to give that a try.

One question I have is whether or not a tablespoon or two of cider vinegar mixed with psyllium fiber each day would counteract the benefits of going completely without calories during that time.

FWIW, I’ve dropped 35+ pounds in three months from a high of 280lbs. Male, 68, borderline diabetic (103 last bloodwork), work out 5-6 days/week, alternate weights & cardio. A friend told me about keto when I began losing weight and I’ve been pretty faithful in keeping my daily carb intake average around 20g or less. I attribute most of my success to the intermittent fasting and just keeping an eye on my carbs. I don’t get real religious about it like some do, but I avoid sugars, starches, refined products, etc.

Anyway, any tips on commencing and breaking a six-day fast would be appreciated.

Thanks-

EDIT: I know the interweb is NOT a good resource for medical advice, but I should also mention I’ve been taking 40mg of lasix 1/day, a potassium supplement and 500mg metformin 2/day for several years. Now that my BP is in a good range (<120/70), I’m thinking it might be good to drop those meds during an extended fast. I’ll get a call in to my Dr to confirm.
