I am planning my first major fast in the next day or two. I have done 24 hour fast. I have been strict keto for 5 weeks, non strict keto about 7-8 weeks. I need advice. What things should I be having that still keeps me fasted. Is there particular things that could help me fast?
First Extended Fast!
What do you mean by “major” - is it quality, like only water, coffee and salt or - is it quantity, like a longer duration of 3 or 5 or 10 days?
I’m not really setting a day number, I’m just seeing how far I can go. I’m just worried to feel low energy at work ect. I’ll have mostly water. I’m just wondering if there’s things that can help energy wise in case I feel down. I’ll have salt and ketoade but wondering if there’s anything else. May have tea but wouldn’t do coffee because I add things to do which would probably take me out of a fasted state.
I find that having a target duration helps me. I am 23 hours into a 7 day fast and I am excited and feeling great. This round I added Apple Cider Vinegar to my Ketoaide and I breezed through hour 18 (at which I always struggle) with no hunger at all. I also suck (not eat) on sunflower seeds which helps psychologically, and I grab some mint toothpicks from Whole Foods to help my oral fixation. I find fasting incredible and do an extended fast monthly. Think of this, if you fast for a week every month it’s like not eating 3 months out of the year.
Keep Calm and Fast On
It sounds like you have a good plan - I would think about bone broth in the evening unless you are trying for autophagy. About the salt, I take it daily (i.e. I take it before I start feeling the need for it). Finally, low energy at work? Ha - you’ll be hyper productive for just about the whole fast if you have been strict keto for a couple of months.
Thanks, I just usually salt the heck out of my foods so I have to remember to add salt without eating the foods lol
Acv might be a good addition, I drink that with lemons, is that okay or no?
I’m sure it’s fine, but you could do Lemon Lacroix instead to eliminate the few calories the lemon would have. I also forgot to mention that I take a daily multivitamin and continue that when I fast. Oh, and I would join the May fasting threads for support. The Zorn Fast is the third week of the month from Thursday through Sunday and the new thread should be going up soon. I try to overlap mine with that so there are a lot of people fasting at the same time.
Good luck!
I’ve read them since I joined! I plan on doing it with them, I know I’m not quite ready for that far, but I want to build up to that! I’ll still come in take a peak during it, drop a few comments how I’m doing
I’ve heard good things about apple cider vinegar, but there’s a lot of overlap with regular vinegar, in my opinion. Good for digestion, good for gut bacteria (the stuff you want to encourage, versus that which you don’t), improves insulin sensitivity (?), etc. I drink it fairly regularly when I’m fasting, but have never been able to pinpoint any effects for better or worse. ~45 hours into a fast here and I’m having a big old glass of water with a pretty good hit of ACV in it right now, along with a little salt and magnesium citrate.
Good to know since I’ll probably do a similar drink with the potassium and magnesium.
