6 months into Keto and hit a stall. Looks like my body thinks homeostasis is 245-250 lbs (down from 325!). Been doing OMAD 23-1 the whole time, so I’ve been feasting since Friday eating several times a day. I’m surprised how difficult it has been to make myself “overeat”! Going to fast for 4 days, eat during the weekend (including Labor Day) and then fast for 4 more and see if I can’t get that scale moving again. If it works I want to work my way up to 10 days. My thought is that since I’ve been eating only 1 meal per day (as in sit down and eat once, no “window” just a meal) I should be able to handle 4 days ok. BTW my plan is only water to ensure no chance of metabolic error.(I’m gonna miss black coffee). For you fasting warriors, 1; does my plan make sense? And 2; any tips regarding what to expect? Thanks
First dive into extended fasting
First, congrats on your loss so far! … I started at 320 myself, and at 13 weeks, am down 53 lbs.
I’m actually fasting now, and almost 28 hrs. in. From all the reading I’ve done for over 3 months, the one thing I’ve been trying to do is mix things up. I too prefer OMAD, and enjoy this the most. But from reading other info, I recall reading somewhere that doing OMAD alone can create stalls, so I’ve been mixing in TMAD, fasting, etc. Whenever I’ve mentioned this, I’ve been told that this is correct way of thinking and that you body will get used to anything we do regularly, so my main goal is to keep my body guessing.
Not sure how helpful that is, but I’m sure there are other here that can provide better advice for you.
Thanks for the feedback. I just made a post on the IF topic saying I’ve been worried that I have been overzealous with OMAD and stunted my metabolism. The problem is that I feel normal on OMAD now. I feel good! Eating more over the last few days has been difficult, and I love food! I’m hoping that cycling through feasting and fasting breaks the stall and wakes my metabolism up. Maybe wait til I hit my weight goals to go back to regular OMAD.
I hear ya, and agree 100%. I do feel best when doing OMAD. So on nights when I don’t eat, I will sometimes still make something for myself and take it to work for lunch (once or twice a week) Then skip a week or two, going back to mainly OMAD. And for the past 4 -6 weeks, throwing in Fasting. … Here’s what I’ve been recording. I even had one week with no loss, and one where I gained 2 lbs. (but I thought this might be water weight, since I was feeling a little bloated, and the next week showed I may have been right)
Yeah, I started thinking to mix it up a while back and have got nothing but confirmations from other when I mention this. So my plan is to keep mixing it up until it stops working.
That makes sense. I’ve done a couple of IFs so far, which have been fine. When I started keto 8 weeks ago, I was on so much medication for my T2 that I had some problems with fasting as it caused serious hypos. I’ve been able to significantly reduce my meds so now I can do a BPC and call it a day for eating, and my BS stays steady.
8 weeks in and I am still excited about the possibilities! Can’t say that about any other “diet” I’ve done.
