Okay so today I had a 4 egg omelette cooked in extra virgin Olive oil with mushroom and cheese for breakfast. I wasn’t hungry at dinner but just started get sugar cravings so I’ve just eaten full packet of salami and cheese 11 slices round cheese and 11 slices salami… Is this is okay? Thanks
First day trusting fat
I’m not the longest ketoer here at all, but I’m going to go with yes. Salami and cheese are great because they have a lot of fat. I depend on them too.
That’s a great start! Tomorrow cook your eggs in butter. Yum! Or bacon fat.
You got this!
It is kind of weird at first when you embrace fats. I now cook a sausage patty and a strip of bacon for breakfast. I leave the bacon fat in the pan and add butter to it. I then pour in my eggs mixed with heavy whipping cream and add cheese.
Totally this. It is a mind game you have to win. Some days I still feel like a kid sneaking a cookie when I eat fats!
And I go searching for little nuggets of unmelted butter in my food, like a kid looks for chunks of cookie dough in their ice cream.
Sometimes I cut a series of small butter chunks and drop them into eggs before I pour them into the pan. I call them flavor crystals!
Carbexit - WELCOME!
HINT: If you are craving something sweet, get yourself some Stevia calorie free extract. Try to get the the stuff that comes in a bottle with a tiny spoon, it’s the most pure. Sometimes the little packets have a filler in them.
I add a little pinch (it’s really sweet, so it doesn’t take much) to a big glass of iced tea, while I’m eating a good fatty protein (like salami, cheddar cheese, or even cream cheese and celery).
The sweet of the stevia in the tea, while I’m eating something keto-friendly, really helps diminish my sweet cravings.
Keto is math, that’s the only work you really need to do with it.
You’re new to this so you need to learn first. You need to know how much Fat and Protein you need daily.
Find a good ketogenic calculator (plenty online, I like this one: https://www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/ )
Get a firm grasp of how much Fat and Protein you need daily. Also, make sure you to keep track of your carbs too until you have a detailed understanding of how many hidden carbs some foods have.
Ketogenics is not a diet! DO NOT try to starve yourself while on keto, you will fail. If your daily caloric intake is supposed to be 1800 calories, you cannot calorie restrict, like with a diet. I tried this when I found the keto lifestyle and I failed miserably until I learned.
Near the beginning of my keto journey I did the 1200 calories a day (I was supposed to be eating 1980 calories a day), while maintaining the correct balance of fat, protein, and carbs. I lost almost nothing. As soon as I got as close to my daily caloric need as possible, while maintaining the correct percentages of fat, protein and carbs, the weight started to fall off again.
I think of Keto as a puzzle, when you get the Fat, Protein, and Carbs pieces in the right place, it will click in place for you.

I did this for quite a while, the last three months. Not the calorie restriction part. I did loose some weight but it got quite slow after some time. I decided to mix it up again. Recently I have almost doubled protein intake on some days, leaving fat pretty much the same. Eating some leaner meat cuts too. I have been loosing a little faster and gotten past a crawl pace. I have focused on keeping carbs lower than 20g. on most days between 8 and 15g.
Macros can be played with once you’re fat adapted you can dial back on fat some and burn your own instead. I’ve dropped about 4-5 lbs in the last two weeks of this experiment. I am nearing my goal weight and no longer overweight so my experience may not be yours.
But nothing is written in stone concerning keto other than keeping carbs low and not letting yourself be hungry. Protein and fat especially being flexible to keep you feeling satisfied most of the time.
That’s awesome. I think/hope you will find that if you are eating enough fat, your cravings for sweets and bready/pasta carbs will be markedly diminished or almost gone. I love cheese, especially gouda. I had to start watching how much I was eating.
I still have the instinct that I grew up with as a child of the 90’s with the “Food Pyramid” that eating all this fat is bad for me. So hard to untrain your brain.
It is really weird but so enjoyable! I’m not missing sugar at all in my coffee now I’m adding cream. Your breakfast sounds good
Thanks so much Fred I’m not hungry at all and I’m sure I’m eating plenty. Thanks for the info and links I’ll take a look at those
Yes I think I need to too … I weighed this morning and 5lbs have dropped so not too bad at the minute but I know eventually I’ll have to start looking at macros … thanks Ginger
