First 36 hour EF was EZ, now on second 3 day EF - Why should I stop at 3 days?

(Raj Seth) #1

So, a week ago I did a 36 hour fast and that was so EZ if felt like a joke!
Ate dinner, slept, woke up, drank water and coffee (no fat added) all day, went to sleep, woke up and broke my fast with 2 bulletproof coffees (4 tbsp fat).

It was SOOOOO EZ it was a joke.

Zero Hunger. I have wife & teenage kids - so I even made roast pork belly (thanks 2ketodudes!), sat at the table and had none as I served my family. Did I mention it was EZ?

SO - I started another. Last meal was 4 tbsp 2 bulletproof coffees(4tbsp butter) at 2am Wednesday morning. Now 38 hours in. drinking real salt water (1 gallon / day target) with a tsp of bacon dripping. also had a nip of bourbon yesterday and one today.

Yes, I realize that it is not a strict strict 0 calorie fast. I will probably have 200 calories daily. I dont think that matters.

What I cant figure out (38 hours in), is - Why should I BREAK this FAST in 72 hours??? Why should I not continue and make it a week - fortnight - month - till-I-get-to-my-target-weight fast?

What is the down side?
I am 54, 5’8". 227. (was 297) T2D (diagnosed, but now maybe no more). hard core Keto for 3 months. Just started curtailing protein to < 100 gm last week.

Please tell me. Please!

Hey, just go till you feel like stopping. Happy fasting !

I find I either do 40 hours ish or I do 5 days. I find the 4th and 5th easy. Fast until you want to stop, if you do not then do not within reason

I would reconsider the bourbon for a variety of reasons but whatever works.

I try to limit even HWC in my coffee after 72 hours because that is when peak autophagy kicks in supposedly. Lately I have not wanted to fast so I do not

Observations on this fast:

  1. NO hunger!
  2. Kills me: I just hickory smoked some home made home cured bacon today. I tasted a pea sized piece when it came out of the smoker, and it was soooooo delish.
  3. Victory: same as 2) - I was able to stop at the pea sized morsel: no temptation to have more.
  4. I like that one bourbon can get me ā€˜happy’ in this fasted state.
  5. I go to work Sunday - no bourbon then. I think I may continue the fast, and make it more stringent.
  6. I am amazed by how much saline I can have, and keep in me. 40 hours in and 2 gallons in, no more than 1-2 quarts out. I am gaining weight on this fast! (Yes, I know it is water, but it is amusing, nonetheless)

The more I think about it, the more I want to continue indefinitely…

I have"gained weight" for the last two fasts running, so you have company.

Do what works for you in your situation. Don’t listen to those on the nets who scream that you will die after 72 hours. Keep your sodium and fluids up and go as long as you want. (for reference, my wife has done 40 days but has lot of fat stores, I’ve done 20 days at 15% or so body fat).

The way I understand it, only those at less than 6% (or so) body fat need to really worry about the ā€œdangersā€ of fasting.

My first 3 day fast lasted 22 days, lol. I only stopped because I wanted to eat Christmas Eve dinner with my family. I would have kept fasting. I now have fasted 4 days and 3 days since then. I think I’ll start another extended fast next week. I love fasting!!!

KCFO?? Yo no comprendo
I am 43 hours into this one, cooking for kids (wife is away) and not having any temptation. Who woulda thunk it?

I’m going to keep going for as long as I feel good. Started taking a daily multivitamin today. Probably consuming 2-300 Kcals a day - tsp bacon drippings with Himalayan sea salt in broth. Have 2 liters of 0.9% saline every morning to clean stuff out - amazed that only 1/3 of it comes out - guess need to hydrate more.
No stomach growling or cravings. Yeeeee haaaaw
Go Keto or go home!j

Keep calm and fast on!

(Taking liberties with kcko)

Sounds like you are doing great and have accessed your bodies fat stores, you are running off stored energy vice daily input, which is what the body is very capable of doing and very good at, most of us have simply never had to do it. Congrats on adding this new strength to your life!

Accessed those body stores all right. But my body is not really running on fat - its running on bagels and donuts and ice creams I ate 10 years ago :joy:
And having eaten so many extra, there is plenty in the larder for my body to access
Larder - what a great name!
In my religion, Jainism, there is an annual 10 day fast - water only - so I guess I am catching religion at a late stage of my life…

I broke my fast at 3 days (+5 hours). Felt great. Shoveled snow for 2 hours yesterday with no hunger or fatigue.
I now intend to go 50/50. fast for 3 1/2 days, keto BPC breakfast + OMAD for 3 1/2 days. indefinitely. Lets see how that goes.
Yeeeee Haaaaw

Great job and best of luck to you. Fasting gets easier as you ā€œuse the muscleā€.

Enjoy the high ketones!
