Well, that didn’t take long. Apparently we’ve just pivoted from eating protein to eating cardboard…

I believe there’s a medical term for human life absent protein.
It’s known as death.
I think fiber is probably the most overrated “nutrient” we can eat. For some, like me, fiber is bad. Does not much or anything good. Much bad.
And if you want to get into a confusing area of research, start looking at the biome. So much information that conflicts.
Even in keto, though, protein still has a bad rap. Listened to a podcast where the expert implied that eating protein raises your daily (fasting) insulin. I find this very, very doubtful.
Not eating protein makes you dead though so I think the choice should be obvious…
HOW on earth can anyone be against protein?!
If I extremely simplify my ideal diet, it’s eating protein sources. It pretty much takes care of everything for me, at least if I focus on animal protein but that’s the best so yep I do.
I personally don’t care about fiber. Zero, little, normal, high… All worked for me this far. It doesn’t seem to change anything and as I know fiber isn’t needed for everyone, I find it odd fiber is so hyped since forever. Many people act like one would need it for poop! And it’s just isn’t true in general.
Back to the quoted thing… Isn’t that only for high-carb diets? Protein on a low-carb diet doesn’t even raises insulin much. Not like I care as 1. I need my protein 2. my body feels just fine with high protein. It doesn’t feel nearly so fine with much carbs. I could eat lots of fiber without net carbs but it would be odd (fiber doesn’t taste good. I used to use a bit in baking but I have better ideas now) and as I wrote, completely unnecessary.
I try to read the article but it’s very hard and somewhat painful.
“fiber will be the next protein.”
No it won’t. Oh my.
I wish humans would be as smart as animals. At least they instinctively try to eat more or less right…
It’s actually a deficiency in US consumers’ diets
Fiber ISN’T essential nutrient. Protein is. It’s individual if we need it for something. Or if it’s beneficial at all. It does absolutely nothing to my hunger and not everyone is desperate to eat less anyway… We NEED energy, a lot of it. Many people can handle the balance just fine without tricks. (I have such problems but I have a great trick, eating protein rich animal food. It works unlike fiber.)
Cola with fiber, lol.
He would rather consumers gravitate toward the produce and vegetable section at the grocer for their fiber needs.
I agree. It’s so very easy to eat lots of fiber, we don’t need processed special stuff for that.
But it’s for people who actually need fiber. Eating more vegs isn’t something that is good for me and many others. If I needed fiber, I still would mostly avoid vegs due to their net carb content. Of course I know normal diets has tons of carbs so vegs are actually super low-carb there…
“What I’ve taught clients for a long time is to eat a pile of vegetables the size of your head every day,”
It isn’t an amount… What does it mean? 2kg of carrot and onion? A loose head of lettuce? It isn’t the same…
Sometimes I wonder if people can compare a bunch of vegs with their head, I surely couldn’t. I am not good at volume but vegs aren’t either, they may contain a ton of air, hence the scale.
Whatever. It’s a super bad idea for many of us. My little family couldn’t even afford that huge cost and other burden in winter… And it’s just fluff, we need nutrients and energy, thank you very much.
Wow. Such a big amount… My SO cooks a veggie dish in our biggest pot from less than that and eats it for 4-5 days and he is the one who eats pretty much vegs…
Nope, I don’t think it’s viable for most people.
Eh, another stupid thing. Though everything that ends with -maxxing tends to be that. Fiber isn’t the worst I suppose. Protein would still be better except when gym bros do something really crazy there. But most people hardly can overdo protein for too long. It’s still may be necessary to keep it low enough for some (like me) but it’s usually not a problem and if we truly focus on good, nutritious, satiating protein, it even acts against overeating.
Hail protein.
