Feeling My Impending Mortality - My Fasting Journey

#82

Hey Mike thanks for the advise and words of encouragement. I’m impressed losing 25% of your body weight and conquering being pre-diabetic is pretty impressive.

You are right, I’m definitely commited and slowly but surely figuring it out. Seems like I’m the type who always has to explore different paths and learn from them.

The juicing fulfills a need hey better a home made V-8 juice or a totally green juice than an ice cream cone right. Got to have something to reward myself with! So what if I lose only 4LB a week instead of 5 or 6.

Really I’ve only been drinking Juice 2x per week and avoiding the more Carby Vegetables.

You have a great family for being so supportive. I think the 36 hour fasts twice a week is a very sensible way to go for maintenance or slight loss. I plan to end up on a schedule like that when I’ve reached my goal.

Just about to go to bed and feeling a psychological craving for Food.

Around 11:30sh is a bad time because I got into the habit of eating snacks at night. The absolute worst for two reasons. 1st is that if you go to bed with carby food in your stomach it’s fattening. The second is that if I eat sweets at night and go to sleep, my blood sugar goes way up and stays that way through the night.

So all of a sudden a thought just pops into my mind. I can go eat a can of Tuna Fish. No one will know. But back to reality I will know. According to my Android App "Night Fast " I’ve been fasting for 69h 49m and only have 19 hours to go to meet my goal.

I’m going to stay out of the kitchen and sleep! I really want to meet my goal!

Well I followed my resolution and went to sleep. Then I woke up.in the middle of the night My body felt sick and out of balance. It wasn’t like I was craving food. It was this out of balance feeling.

I checked and it was just about 2:00am and thought, my body is telling me to eat again. So prepared a low carb salad and a high carb Mango and went back to bed.

So I completed a full 72 hour fast the previous record was 66 hours.

The plan is to eat a keto meal tonight and then fast for another 3 days

Fatguy,
“With ALL due respect”, you might want to do some research about why you should be “fat adapted” before fasting. You could be doing yourself an un-justice in the long run.

Just trying to help.

Much appreciated the advise. But I’m doing just fine.

I’ve tried to get into a low carb diet for the last 3 months with no success. No Willpower. I find it takes less willpower to fast for 2-3 days than it does to tightly regulate what I eat every day. Just the way that I’m wired.

I’m over 120LB overweight the time to take radical action is now.

Every week and every fast becomes easier.

And I’ve been losing weight at approximately 4 Lbs a week, I’m down 12LBS in 3 weeks. I already see the benefits. My feet aren’t swollen. My ankles have gone from slight purple to fairly tan. My clothes are becoming more comfortable.

The ship is heading in the right direction, there is no reason to change course.

Well back on the train again.

Basically went 24 hour between ending the last 72h fast and beginning the new one.

Started Wed 2am and plan to fast until Sat at 2am. Hey if it goes right I’ll try for longer period of time. But I think that If I go for 72h on 24 off and 72 on again that may work out very good for me psychologically and Physiologically.

I’ll just see how it goes.

Well I just bought Potassium Chloride and Magnesium Chloride and they arrived.

Been watching videos and seems that when not eating the most important is to supplement with Potassium. Chose the Chloride forms because I read that this is how they are found in seawater and arguably they are the most absorabable.

I also heard that most people whether fasting or not are deficient in Potassium
This is an interesting article
http://healthandscience.eu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1096:increased-potassium-intake-counteracts-hypertension-and-diabetes-us&catid=20&lang=us&Itemid=374
"However, not many people know that potassium has a vital impact on blood sugar levels and the prevention of diabetes, just as it counteracts side effects of diuretics. "

Anyway the Magnesium seems to be very strong, I took around 1/2 a Teaspoon and it cleaned out my system.

Yes I will be careful I read the dangers of overdosing on Potassium.

I bought the Potassium Salts because it’s the most economical, also the Feds don’t allow more than 89mg per tablet and the daily recommended allowance is around 4000mg. So the only way to get proper potassium is to buy in powder form.

Found 1 pound of Potassium Chloride for $9.50
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008NX2WJ8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and
1 lb of Magnesium Chloride for
$16.00
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0195FXWXM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You have to be careful when buying Magnesium because alot of it is not pure and is for external use only. The one I bought was USP.

Well it’s Friday afternoon and the good new is that I continue to lose weight. The bad news is that in the past two days I made Jerkey and couldn’t stop myself from sampling the wares.

Only early in the morning and nothing else except Jerky.

I don’t feel like I set myself back because I used Stevia to sweeten it and the only thing that I ate is the Jerkey so I haven’t thrown myself out of ketosis.

This weekend I’m definitely going to fast for 2-3 days. I’m learning a lesson. Never Cook while fasting!! yeah Duh!!!

I feel ya. Whenever I make my keto whipped cream pudding, I can’t help but to lick the spoons I use to transfer the delicious mess from my Magic Bullet to the bowl I store it in. Then I have a few more bites. I usually measure everything carefully, but it’s so tasty I can’t help it

Glad to see you’re still well on your way. keep it up!

Well it’s April 26th and I’m a month into this fasting thing.

My weight today is 257 Lbs down from 275Lbs or 18Lbs lost. If we add back Water Weight I’m closer to 260Lbs.

I binged this weekend on baad food, and don’t even want to say what my weight went up to but it came down fast as my body cleaned itself out.

Seems like if I shoot for the stars, I reach the moon. It seems like almost Every night I seem to give into my hunger to varying degrees the difference is that I’m eating just a little bit and it’s all Low Carb which I believe is why I’m losing the weight. Basically around 100-500 Cal when I cheat.

Example last night I had 4 Serrano Peppers and a Avocado with Salsa. And a handful of luncheon Turkey meat. I couldnt’ imagine more than 500 Calories and probably less than 15 Carbs.

I’m hoping to gain some willpower and truly go on an extended fast but in the meantime as long as I continue to lose around 3 - 4 Lb a Week I’ll be a happy camper.

The way I look at it is that if I was just going Low Carb without the intention of fasting I’d end up cheating with the Carbs. and I lose no weight.

When I go Low Carb with the intention of extended Fasting it looks like I’m ending up on some sort of Alternate Day Fast.

We’ll see how it goes.

I’m planning on a juicy steak tonight Then back on the treadmill until Friday Night.

This week my Plan is to Fast Mon Tue Eat Low Carb on Wed and Fast Thur until late Friday Eve. This weekend I’ll go it low carb with a cheat meal.

We’ll see if I feel like going more radical next week.

You’re doing great!!! Keep going!!! I look on here alot since I have found this forum and I see everyone here is human. We all make mistakes, but we all are here to help each other on our way to accomplishing our goals!!! This is a great place for knowledge and , I think I can speak for everyone- support too.

If I may ask, @fatguy, what’s your job? While I haven’t tried extended fasting yet, I can’t imagine trying to live a normal life while fasting as much as you, even with cheating. In fact, I would think cheating would make it worse since then your body gets a taste & craving/need for carbs periodically.

Anyway, really impressive work so far. Hopefully you’ll reach your goal sooner rather than later and get to a point where you can live/eat normally (keto) without having to go to such extremes. It seems like you’re doing fine, but it also seems like a huge struggle that you’re just barely staying ahead of. But you know you’ve got a whole community here cheering you on, no matter how you choose to get healthy

I’m a Sales Manager in the Nutraceutical Industry. I both manage two Sales People and make sales.

During the day I don’t really have much hunger or any hunger at all. The trying time is at night. I seem to get hunger in the evenings. While working my mind is occupied with work I’ve noticed that during the weekends I have more hunger through the day.

Everyone is different and has different rhythms of hunger. You might find that if you fast at work it won’t effect you at all or you might find the opposite. IMHO try it, never hurts to try, you might just succeed.

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement.

My Philosophy right now is shoot for the stars and I might just reach the moon!

Hurray today I hit 254.50LBS I broke the 20LBS lost barrier. When I keep up at this rate of 20kg a month in 3 months I’ll be looking good! and 5 months more great!

And that’s after Last Night having two chicken legs, a 1/2 bag of “Jolly Green Giant Turd Balls” I mean Brussel Sprout and 1/2 a LB of Steak. I was happy because I actually stopped 1/2 way through the Steak which is unusual for me.

My big cheat yesterday was with
2 Cans of Zevia Soda
Each one mixed with 1/2 a bottle of the Natural Coke (4oz) which has a mix of cane sugar and Stevia.
I staggered them about 3 hours apart the total Carbs were 16gm. Not so bad considering the rest of the stuff was very low Carb.

Tonight I’m trying an experiment and I mixed 1/4 Cup (2OZ) of the Natural Coke with Zevia Soda. So only 4 Calories and I won’t eat anything. It will be interesting what will be the effect of 4 gm of Sugar Carbs.

By the way the Zevia Soda isn’t very good. The Natural Coke tastes as good as regular Coke. When I mix it with the Zevia 1/4 cup made the Zevia bearable and 1/2 Cup made it taste very good.

I did have 9 Eggs over easy fried in Coconut Oil and spiced with lot’s of spices this morning but nothing all day until the Natural Coke/Zevia Soda mix.

This is in contrast to my original plan which was to give up the Fast for the Weekend.

The strange thing is that my weight is still down even after eating two meals.

Go figure. What I"m doing is working but it’s so erratic, for the life of me I can’t figure out why!!
