Other people than me who feel better without breakfast?
I’m never hungry in the morning and if I force myself to eat I get sluggish and nauseous… I have no energy until 3-4 p.m…
When I don’t eat breakfast my energy level is very high and I have a clear mind…
Yes, absolutely. The earlier in the day I eat, the hungrier I am. And before keto, I couldn’t tolerate any carbs before noon without getting hypoglycemic and “shaky.” I’ve had terrible hypoglycemia nearly all my life and was highly insulin resistant when I started this WOE. The weight loss is wonderful, but I’ll stay with it forever because of that one benefit alone.
Not alone! I never liked eating breakfast even as a child but always felt I had to because of the “experts”. The only thing I truely ever wanted in the morning was fluids. Now that I live keto I happily have my coffee (with or without whipping cream) and give food not a thought until mid-day at the earliest.
Breakfast IS THE MOST IMPORTANT meal just not at the crack of dawn
Let your body be the guide. It’s telling you “please no food yet - I have enough for now”. So break your overnight fast later when you truly feel hungry. You will also be reducing your eating window. All good.
Your body has millions of years of successful evolution telling it what to do, while your mind only has a few decades of corrupting thoughts from the tragedy known as “dietary guidelines”. Let the body rule!
There is a reason you feel so good when you skip breakfast. The whole “breakfast is the most important meal” thing is ridiculous. So is the “eat several small meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism going”. It is crap. Americans are sicker and heavier than ever, so obviously some of these things are not working.
Skipping breakfast is technically a form of intermittent fasting, which enhances a lot of the positive effects of the keto diet. This might help better explain what I’m trying to say…
I never understood the focus on “eating a good breakfast” - even as a teenager I was thinking, “Well, we haven’t done anything yet…” If you eat the evening before, your body is digesting for some hours, and pretty soon you wake up. Why in the world do you need to eat then?
The secretion of ghrelin, the “hunger hormone,” is trainable, to some degree - the body gets used to eating at certain times of the day, and will secrete more in anticipation. Skipping breakfast may sound like anathema to some, but you get more used to it as you do it.
Skipping breakfast makes life so much easier for me. I get up, put a little water on my hands to tame down my crazy bed-hair (both of them), get dressed and go to work. Then it’s time for coffee, or if in a hotel - grab a cup on the way out. I can sleep until about 20 minutes before it’s time to leave.
I generally don’t bother with early morning breakfast now, but occasionally will have an English fry up if I’m away for a weekend on the bike. Don’t have any problems going back to 1 or 2 meal a day starting at 2pm ish, finish at 7pm latest so doesn’t seem to cause me an any issues wanting an early breakfast after having a couple.
I think it’s good to mix things up a little for some people.

I’m new to keto but the experience @Noapples4u shared in the quoted post above has also been my experience. I’m 5 weeks into keto, and as of Friday on my 4th week (April 21 - I weigh and measure on Fridays):
I had lost a total of one pound (I counted twice to be sure)
No discernible inches in my measuring spots
No feeling of extra energy
I didn’t feel l needed breakfast and I didn’t get shakey and hear my stomach gurgling from not eating
The first three bullets above were initially cause for discouragement (I later received some insightful encouragement from a few folks that made a lot of sense).
Anyway … the one telling sign that keto has made some change in me is the not eating breakfast part. I ALWAYS ate breakfast. The mornings didn’t go well without it. After the first few weeks of keto I found I didn’t need breakfast and based on advice I read here … I DIDN’T eat breakfast just because “I was supposed to”.
If I understood what Noapples4u stated … we share a common experience: eating breakfast post keto actually makes me hungrier earlier. Go figure. I’m guessing there is science behind that … one of these days after I get through some more of my established “things to look up” list I’ll look into that.
Very timely subject! Up until now, I have watched my food intake carefully … weighing portions … actually started glucose testing my reaction to things I might have a bad reaction to … AND … the scale hasn’t moved appreciably … no change in the tape measure … BUT … something keto has changed my appetite.
Understand I’m not whining about results to date or trying to hijack a post … this whole not eating breakfast thing because I didn’t feel the need to is a huge change for me. The hardest part has been ignoring the “past voices” from every doctor I’ve ever had, my mother/grandmother/other relatives and most pieces of health related literature I’ve read that basically said “Eat Breakfast”.
I know the other results will come if I do my part. This post resonated with me as a reformed big breakfast eater. I can now go well into the afternoon having had nothing but my keto coffee. I know it’s keto related because I always used to wake up hungry and the first thing I did upon waking was fix a “healthy, low fat breakfast”.
