Favorite use of bacon fat?

(Kristin Rogers) #1

I know this is a little Keto 101 (and I have been at it a while), but I am not in the habit of using bacon fat in my cooking.
And I now have quite a stash (almost filled a pint jar in one day, my kid is on a bacon kick, and it’s a really fatty batch).

So, favorite thing to cook in it? The last batch of bacon burnt a bit, so it might taste too smokey for bacon mayo…

The most recent thing I did with bacon fat was baked my skinless boneless chicken tenders.I just used the same pan after cooking a pound of bacon.
I’ve seen lots of suggestions, on what’s commonly referred to bacon nectar, on here. Great topic for a post in my opinion.

I cook greens with it. Saute a little bit of onion and maybe a piece of bacon and just cook the greens till done. Any type of greens…

I also fry my eggs in bacon fat. Best eggs in the world.

I’ve cooked a steak in it before. Got it really nice and hot then just seared (sp) it on both sides. I like my steaks to be mooing when I eat them so it was fantastic

I just fried some crab cakes that I made with the remains of our crab feast yesterday in bacon fat, it was delicious!

I sauté cabbage in bacon fat, also any meat that is a little too lean gets cooked in bacon fat. I also use it to grease the mug in making Keto mug breads and cake…yes, chocolate mug cake…yum! I use it to flavor my frozen veggies.

Ohh, and my favorite thing to do is deep fry pork chops cut into strips and coated with crushed pork rinds!!! Yum, pork fingers!

(Kristin Rogers) #8

That sounds amazing!

They are sooo good, that I have never eaten them sitting down! I taste one as it is draining on the paper towel…and then they are ALL GONE!

Brussels Sprouts fried in bacon fat with caramelized onions, heavy cream and a cheese of your liking ( I do smoked Gouda and white cheddar)… delicious! :yum:

Bacon-scented body lotion to attract ketogenic romantic interests??

…sorry it’s late, I’m a little punchy, & I just couldn’t help myself :smiling_imp:

Warm bacon vinaigrette - sauce shallots and garlic in bacon grease, splash of vinegar of choice, squirt of Dijon mustard, pour over salad greens

I make burgers in my cast iron skillet with a tablespoon of bacon fat. Perfect.

I grease ‘all the things’ with bacon fat.
Stir fry broccoli, cabbage, brussels in it.
Grease pans for eggs.
I may have to make a mayo from it now. Thanks for mentioning.

(Carey) #15

I added it to my deviled eggs on the 4th! YUM

I have always cooked everything in my saved bacon fat. I season my cast iron pans with it too. Tomato gravy made with it and home canned tomatoes is a southern thing and I make it and thicken it with heavy cream cooking it down to the thickness I want. It adds flavor to whatever you use it in or cook in it.

What everybody is trying to say is that it’s great for almost anything.
Blend it in keto coffee as well…YUM!!

Lots of super great ideas!

Do you strain it? Or leave the brown bits in? The first batch of bacon I did in the oven, and that fat was a lot cleaner (but then I remembered it’s summer and the oven makes the house hot)

(Jeremy Storie) #19

Scrambled eggs are best in a ton of bacon nectar

(Mike W.) #20

I strain it through a single layer of paper towel.
