Is Keto chocolate ok as an alternative to Keto coffee? How would you add fat to your drink in 2024?
Fat 2024 drink
I see no problem with chocolate if it suits someone.
I personally try to lower my fat intake (since many years but it still stays high on average…) so I don’t go adding fat into my drinks - except I could drink a huge amount of cream in coffee and cocoa, so good I can get bored of meat, eggs, cheese - but NEVER cream! That’s fabulous and too easy to eat or drink.
I rather eat my butter instead of drinking it but it can be an option for many.
@Shinita Yeah I got some heavy cream a few week ago that I use from time to time now in my coffee/or hot chocolate. It seems as you in general (at least where I live) get a pretty good bang for your buck buying that compared to some other things (even speaking about some more expensive *keto items). Its beyond me though that people in general still have such a hard time to add any type of fat to their coffee. While I guess you can have theories on why, some other, non natural fats are still so very dominate today…
*Specifically keto ***cream.
I add coconut oil to my coffee for some added fat. But personally would not want to try keto chocolate… it would make me want the real thing.
Keto chocolate IS the real thing to me. I want chocolate, not sugar or even something too sweet! I mean, if I want chocolate to begin with, it’s not normally the case since I have tried carnivore.
Sometimes we still buy or get chocolate and taste it… It’s often so bad, even my SO thinks ours is much better Of course it depends on the chocolate but the average one isn’t great. I can’t make milk chocolate but it’s possible to live without it. I still have my creamy coffee/cocoa if I fancy something like that… Good enough.
Now I try to skip coffee/cocoa from my fatty drinks… Still pretty nice. Nowadays I use egg whites, milk powder and cream in various ratios. And a bit of water. The milk powder is optional but I have a ton of it and it’s nice (and I don’t care much about my carb intake as long as it mostly comes from animal stuff. and my ketosis carb limit isn’t very low either). If I don’t have cream, I can use some butter… Yolk is good too but I go for a good milk replacement right now and have a less yolky drink phase anyway. I may use a tiny bit for flavor but it’s mostly egg white. I really love milk but it’s so tiresome to buy it, clean the package and selectively throw it out (we need to go to the city for that). And it’s better to make my drinks protein rich so they could satiate me. Fat does little to my satiation except in fat fast ratios and bigger amounts unless I am not hungry at all to begin with. But each to their own, we have all these wonderful ingredients, proteins and fats alike, we can choose the best for our drinks! Sometimes a fattier one suits my day and I use more cream, maybe some yolk and no whites. I still prefer to eat my butter alone instead of drinking it. Yum.
We don’t have “keto items” here but I would ignore them just like I ignore complex paleo things too. Especially since my normal food is carnivore. It’s so easy to eat great, simple food making from simple ingredients… And I like making desserts or drinks or baked goods according to my actual whims and priorities… I doubt ready-made keto stuff could be near as good even if it would be available and wouldn’t be even expensive.
I make chocolate from Coconut oil, Cocoa powder, Peanut Butter and as little stevia as I can manage. Then pop it in the freezer.
It’s far too nice and could easily ruin your resistance!
After 10 years and some carnivore it has changed for me But in the beginning, yep, we weren’t shy. My SO still isn’t, he uses chocolate as a staple, it’s eaten every day but I can get satiated by normal food
We use coconut oil, cocoa powder (very nice since I have found some great kinds in a webshop, my interest in chocolate raised temporarily), some sugar alcohol (for my SO, I didn’t use any for mine in the end, now I virtually never make it for me), instant coffee and if we have some, cashew.
This is for the jar, the individual tiny ones may have rum, sliced almond or whatever we fancy. It’s nice with cream too, it’s just not quite chocolate that way, it gets softer and different. But good.
Same as in 1924 and 1824: put heavy cream in it.
Seriously, I was drinking my coffee black when I started keto. Under the influence of these forums, I tried putting heavy cream in it. It was okay, but I found that these days I really prefer my coffee black and without sweetener.
If you use “keto” hot chocolate, that should be fine, but do read the list of ingredients carefully, to make sure there’s nothing in it that you don’t want to be ingesting.
In addition to MCT oil, butter, and HWC, I also put collagen peptides in my coffees. We recently bought Sports Research Chocolate Collagen powder and it is delicious to me. I’ve tried three other brands (Primal Kitchen & Vital Proteins to name two) and didn’t like any of them. It’s as if they overdid the stevia or whatever harsh sweetener they chose and it leaves a harsh taste to me the way aspartame used to. That ruins any chocolate flavor. But Sports Research did it right I think. Great way to get chocolate flavor via the collagen peptides.
I like the flavor of chocolate a lot. I don’t need it to be overly sweet at all so I guess that’s why it doesn’t trigger any binging tendencies? It’s a shame that the sugar industry destroyed the ability of people to enjoy chocolate without it.
I use a flavorless collagen peptide, and put ground cocoa nibs in with the ground coffee. Great aroma, subtle flavor that just slightly cuts bitterness, but no worries about what Else might be added. I don’t sweeten my coffee, but this leaves it open to whatever preference a person might have. For me, plenty of half n half.
I’ve had Lily’s Chocolate when I’ve craved chocolate before. They sell them online in bulk or you can go to a store like Whole Foods and buy a couple bars or their chocolate chips.
