I’m hoping to get the views of some regular fasters to help me decide what to do.
In early August I am having surgery on my foot to remove a Mortons Neuroma. They will cut the nerve and remove the damaged section and I will be left with no feeling in 2 toes, but that is better than the burning pain I have now.
The recovery requires elevating my foot above heart height - 23 hours per day for the first few days and then 20 hours per day for up to 2 weeks. There will be a lot of swelling and apparently the longer you can keep it elevated the less chance of the cut end of the nerve forming a stump neuroma, which can be as painful as the original neuroma that was removed.
So, to the question. What do people think about fasting in the days post surgery. Do you think autophargy will help recovery, or do you think that fasting at this time could hinder the initial healing?
It is done under local anaesthetic if that makes a difference.
Any thoughts welcome.
Fasting post surgery
I’m totally pro fasting for things like this.
But, as ever, listen to your body at the time and adjust your “plans” to suit your body’s needs.
I can only tell you what I did after foot surgery last summer. I am 76, and my surgeon predicted slower healing time because of my ‘old bones’—which seemed weak on the initial x-rays). I eat carnivore, and that’s what I did post surgery, eating regularly [2x a day], no fasting because I think protein is essential for the body’s healing. To the amazement of my surgeon, I actually healed FASTER than the norm rather than slower.
Despite having to be non-weight bearing on that foot for 6 weeks, I gained no weight (I’m maintaining).
It’s also important to know that I’m hypothyroid, and fasting is not recommended because of too much stress on my already compromised thyroid.
