I am setting out to fast for much of Lent.
For those who may not know, Lent is the 40 day period starting 46 days before Easter to the day before easter, excluding the 6 Sundays.
I am not doing it so much as a spiritual endeavor as just using the occasion to improve my health.
I have never previously fasted more than 3 days so I didn’t want to take it all at once. Instead my goal is to fast most of the time, making planned exceptions for several social gatherings or other observances.
In Week 1 (which starts on Wednesday) I set out to fast for 60 hours and made it without a hitch.
In week 2 I had planned to double that with 120 hours, but I cut it short at 108 because I was awakened by a leg cramp.
I am now going into Week 3 armed with magnesium and potassium supplements (for the cramping). I am going for only 66 hours this week and then taking a day out to celebrate Purim with my family. After that I plan fast again for 48 hours or so.
So far the results have been amazing. My energy is great, I have lost 11 lbs, and my glucose levels have been measured in the 60’s, literally for the first time ever in my adult life.
When I started on Keto everyone talked about how you reach a point where your body has energy and you can just go without the constant hunger of the carb eating life. For me that never happened until now – 6.5 months into my Keto journey.
