Fast fix diabetes

(ianrobo) #1

On itv now and at least said that it can be cured … but same old overweight causes T2D …

What is the fast fix then ??? Let’s see

Ah of course low calorie 800 cal liquid diet …

What will not be mentioned is most of the calorie drop will be with carbs

(ianrobo) #2

Now mentioned insulin resistance but still no real mention of macros … but kind of backing up our WOE … body forced to burn fat and now mentiobed ketosis without mentions the low carb !!

Ian
How did this end up? We in Aus usually get your UK interesting docos about 6 months after they go live in UK. They obviously travel by boat!
Cheers
Alec

Haha there are other better methods :+1: so after the first 4 weeks which was in isolation with specialists they obviously lost weight and different markers improved. One person for sample haves blood sugar from 12 to just above 6 and another lowered BP etc

However next 4 weeks was on their own and in next show and no dietary advice shown, nor exercise. They said people were in ketosis and showed symptoms of ‘Keto flu’ and the drinks they had were ver salty.

Yet the thing was they related improvements to fat loss when we know it is the lowering of cabs.

Fact is the title of the show is wrong and it is about lifetime changes and not fast fixes which always fail - see biggest loser

However it showed diabetes is not a progressive infixable illness and knowing what we know, it confirms it is fixed by diet but they dare not say that.

Roy Taylor’s Newcastle Starvationism gets more props! While I’m happy it works, it really makes out that reversing T2D has to be super restrictive, painful and hard to sustain (after the 800Kcals of shakes are over). I agree that it probably works by being accidentally keto as well as the shock of starvation may reset organs.

This diet got the nod in the BBC Crash Diet show a few weeks back so obviously it passes muster with the TV folks. Why David Unwin with his more normal keto approach doesn’t get the airtime this diet gets, I don’t know.

Cos it’s badged low carb, and we all know that this is a fad, right? :scream: They don’t want to be showing fads, for goodness sake!

(ianrobo) #8

Ah but he did in the BBC prog The truth about carbs … yes this is a shock programme but surely if you are watching it with type 2 you may search out how to fix it and that search could lead you here ?

I did this diet a few years back to avoid having to take more medication suggested by my diabetic nurse at the time ( no other suggestions) I did it under the supervision of a consultant and a dietician. It followed the Newcastle diet - three liquid meals and a 200 calorie vegetable dish ( soup, salad, stirfry!).

It worked - lost loads of weight 16 stone down to 11 stone 4 lbs ( too light according to the consultant told to put on a few pounds) and more improtantly Hba1c down from 9.7 to 5.4. Consultant discharged me and supervision stopped .

What happened?
Most of the weight stayed off - now 12 stone 2. But gradually over the years reverted back to old diet and Hba1c became even more elevated. I realised the Newcastle diet was not sustainable tried low calorie diet didnt work. Then I came across Dr Fung and mentions of Keto. Joined the Diet Doctor site. Tried Keto several times and failed after a month or so. The problem I now realise was not eating enough fat!! Simple as that.

Following LCHFMP with some intermittant fasting works just as well, more sustainable in the long term and plenty of support on this site along with Diet Doctor and IDM. I would much rather tell people about this than the restricted calorie very low carb method reported in last night’s program. Looking forward to watching the follow up this evening to see what happens. Better still a follow up on those subjects in a year or so time.

spot on or even a few months time, what we never see Viv is the advice they are given off camera and hopefully some of this in Part 2

#11

Am I wrong or was their explanation of t2d wrong? They said it was due to the liver and it’s inability to handle glucose properly…

(ianrobo) #12

Yeah in relation to fatty liver but then they still said fat causes diabetes

#13

Hmm. I found the brand of meal replacement they are using - https://m.exantediet.com/

Surprise surprise. Full of processed carbs and vegetable oils.

Catching up on episode 2 now…’Dr Jason’ seems woefully ignorant of the science… “sugar isn’t necessarily bad for you” (saying this to a pre-diabetic), “reduce your calories”, “don’t eat fat it’s calorie dense”, he’s just another lazy CICO adherent setting these people up for failure. How is it a layman like me can just stumble onto the actual science and know more about what to eat and how to reverse T2D than a medical professional who supposedly looks into diabetes reversal as part of his job??

(ianrobo) #15

that is vile stuff …

(Rosemary Easter) #16

I just finished watching and shouting at the tv! Poor people having to eat that processed muck, made me feel sick. They were cold and tired. Then celebrity chef went on IF and found it so hard. If only they had been able to eat low carb, high fat it would have been so much easier for them and they would be able to keep it up. Coleen was shown eating pineapple!!! And I agree with the person on here who said Jason did not seem to know what he was talking about.
I do IF 17/7 every day and one 24 hour fast - so easy if you are fat adapted. These people will soon cave in as did not get good advice.

(Rosemary Easter) #17

Just looked at the Sweet and Sour noodle meal replacement - soy and gluten - so healthy!

(Sybella) #18

I agree it was made to look really hard and they played a bit of ‘blame the victim’ at the beginning so they all felt emotionally shit just to add to the drama. It was good that the message of reversal with out drugs is getting out there, but claiming its all down to their ground breaking research is unfair.

(karen) #20

The two are related, but they’re grabbing the wrong end of the elephant here. Increasing carbs drives insulin spikes which eventually leads to insulin resistance which leads to weight gain and prolonged elevated blood glucose / diabetes. Reducing carbs reduces insulin spikes. Reduced insulin means the body is better able to release its fat stores, which it needs to do to have energy if carbs are reduced. Reducing insulin spikes hopefully also eventually decreases insulin resistance, which makes the body better able to quickly handle glucose and not have a prolonged glucose spike (i.e. not register as diabetic.)

So body fat is basically the indicator of insulin resistance, not the cause of it. I can’t say for sure that a high carb diet is the cause of insulin resistance / diabetes, but the evidence sure does implicate it.

(ianrobo) #21

Sure I totally agree and they nearlybgot there which is key to it is to lower the amount of sugar/ carbs eaten is the way to go and even those drinks did that ! As they at least halved their normal carb intake
