A product called Better Than Bouillon is what I use when I want a salty hot drink. One carb per cup (unless you make the mistake if buying their salt reduced version–don’t do it). A brain storm hit me ouch and I put a drop of cream in the last swallow in the cup. Wow, that was good.
Enhanced bouillon
Interesting…i will give that a try. I typically have bone broth made, but it is often getting stuck at last minute without time to cook. Instant bouillon comes in handy in a pinch. Looking forward to trying the cream addition.
Oh by the way, here’s another tip to add to bouillon:
Make a quick and easy egg drop soup…scramble an egg and add a tablespoon of grated parmesan cheese. Drop the mixture in a cup of hot bouillon broth. Egg drop soup done!
I recently found a great powdered bouillon made by massel (you folks down under have probably seen this brand)…I got the vegetable one…and it says salt reduced…but that’s no problem …you can add salt to taste…the powder is great because it dissolves quickly…unlike some cubes…i add a bit of butter to it ! I’m going to make some now.
I keep some Better Than Bouillon at work. I put a teaspoon in 16oz of water and add 1/4 tsp of lite salt to get some potassium in.
Unfortunately, Better Than Bouillon contains some keto no-no’s, maltodextrin for one. You have to expect this in such a highly processed product. However, one teaspoon, one serving, contains only one carb, which I consider acceptable. The flavor is nowhere near a freshly made broth, but instant food never is.
I just had chicken broth with Kerry gold butter and parsley flakes. Very delicious!
I reheat my morning cup of home made broth in the microwave, and have sometimes stirred in a raw egg to poach it in the cup. Adding butter would be nice!
Sorry, unable to do so.
The ingredients are: roasted beef with concentrated beef stock, salt, hydrolyzed soy protein, sugar, corn syrup solids, flavoring, yeast extract, dried whey, potato flour, caramel color, corn oil, xanthan gum.
No maltodextrin after all.
I’ve just recently binned the bouillon I’d been using as it contains some ingredients I’d just rather avoid. Going to experiment with homemade ketoaide instead.
I like Swanson’s Beef Broth. I mix some MTC oil in, I haven’t tried butter yet.
I’m not a coffee drinker, but I do like this.
I learned the hard way how the maltodextrin affects me and thus began rotating frozen bone broth cubes by the 20 per freezer bag to ensure a constant supply. I have friends and co-workers who save their chicken carcasses just for me. One of these babies in the mug makes the blues go away!
See that fat on those cubes I did NOT skim off for cooking? That’s because this batch is SPICY and the fat was left on purpose! These will flavor fried cabbage, soups, gravies, etc.
Could I ask you where you purchased your freezer cubes? They seem much larger than the ice cube trays I’ve been using. Thanks!
In the U.S. I’ve seen the giant sized cube trays in TJ Maxx. I bet you could also get them at Bed Bath and Beyond.
