Effects of coffee and ketosis

(James Long) #1

What are the effects of coffee, mostly caffeinated, on stay in ketosis and losing weight?

As a good portion of people here do some variation of BPC (Bullet proof coffee), I’d say it shouldn’t effect it at all.

I am still confused myself whether it’s allowed during fasting, but that shouldn’t effect ketosis.

@Anniegirl9 I think you are correct no problem with coffee and ketosis as long as you don’t add sugar😃 .

You can have black coffee while fasting but do not use it if your goal is autophagy.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #4

I drink a fair amount of coffee, and I see no sign that it affects my ability to burn fat. In fact, and for what it’s worth, when I was doing my original learning about the ketogenic way of eating, several sources claimed that coffee actually helps keep us in ketosis.

Caffeine can raise cortisol levels.

I take Ginger capsules with my morning fatty steam-espresso coffee & cream to help counteract cortisol rise. Steady progress over here!

coffee has zero interaction with ketones and has neither a positve or negative effect on weightloss since studies can show both depending on context.
