Doing a Fast

(Auden) #1

Hi, I’m over 24 hours, so I guess it’s officially an extended fast! My longest fast so far was 4 days. I did some 36 and 48 hour fasts. I started doing this a couple months ago. I’m grateful to the forums for people posting about their experiences. I’m not sure how long this fast will go, I’m definitely a day-by-day person. I do not test ketones or glucose, sorry! I do have coffee, cream, chicken broth, sometimes diet lemonade.

I have the usual questions about electrolytes, I was planning to supplement approximately:
4000 mg sodium
600 mg potassium
400 mg magnesium

I’m cautious to supplement potassium, but I’ve read that it is a good idea, and it’s in my electrolyte supplement (Vitassium pill).

I’m into day 3 now!

I made it to another day, I decided to switch to topical magnesium.

I would take salt if you’re not. Also, if you get hungry, putting salt under your tongue helps. Personally, I can’t do that and the salt just goes into my mouth. But it does help stifle hunger.

The longest fast I’ve done is 5.5 days. I stopped because I got dizzy when standing. At that time, I did not know about electrolytes or salt.

Since insulin is dropping, blood pressure tends to fall.

Congrats on the long fast!
