Do you ever not eat when going out with friends or family?

Hi Jan,
Thanks for the input. This place is kind of in between. They don’t have a green salad on the menu…just seaweed salad and seafood salad. When I looked up miso soup it had added sugar coming in at 8-10 carbs per bowl, but I guess it might not be too bad. They do not have ramen at this place just sushi, tempura and some teriyaki/katsu options which makes it feel less authentic. They have no grilled fish options and when I called asking questions they said the marinade everything in a long list of sauces. I might just stick to miso soup and then order something and push it around my plate.

Good luck, @Samantha. Wow, miso soup with added sugar!?!?
Another suggestion: purse bacon?

(Samantha ) #23

Thank Madeline! I will have a late lunch and be super quiet about what I may or may not order. In the future I will definitely not be putting myself in this kind of situation. I will just take the chill approach and try not to stress about it. thank you for the reminder about doing this to better myself. Maybe they will actually listen to me in 6 months when I look like a goddess!

Purse Bacon? I have never even thought of that! That might be a solid option and I know it will make my husband laugh out loud! :):joy:

(Liz ) #25

Oh Purse Bacon is the bomb! :purse: :bacon: My go to movie snack as well

could ask for sauce on the side or get a sushi roll and pluck the meat out of the roll?

(Cece Blackstock) #27

Even better!

(Ethan) #28

Sushi roll - the fish she doesn’t eat = rice–carbs though

(Miss E) #29

There are sushi rolls that have things other that raw fish. Some japanese restaurants do very thinly sliced beef and the marinade is mostly vinegar.

(Ethan) #30

Right. technically its not sushi, but something tells me they don’t do it.

(Hala) #31

Always not eating but I share the bill :joy:

(Miss E) #32

She said they are going for Japanese. Japanese food entails more than just sushimi.

(Samantha ) #33

OMG! I just had to deal with this with a couple of friends we went out with! They ordered expensive drinks, two apps and swanky entrees and then wanted to split the bill 50/50…um no. We both had salads and water so that is what we are paying for. Hahahahaha

(Ethan) #34

Of course…she also said it wasn’t much of an authentic place. I got the vibe that they wouldn’t have much “beef sushi,” but I could be wrong.

(Samantha ) #35

No beef sushi. :frowning: I am just going to “share” sashimi with my hubby and call it a day. Sip some green tea and go home and have a steak.

(Miss E) #36

it’s not raw, just fyi :stuck_out_tongue:

#37

Hmm, my family usually goes to steak houses so I can happily tag along and have a nice big plate of meat and veggies.

#38

Maybe, just maybe… get the tempura stuff and don’t eat the carby casing?
American-Asian restaurants are tough. When you are in Asia, 90% of the menu is keto… Sigh. GL!

(Samantha ) #39

Be thankful you have a flexible family. I understand my uncles reluctance to go to a steak house though since he does not eat beef and it is his birthday. I however, will be picking a steak house when it is my family birthday dinner pick!

Too bad about the sashimi, that’s one of my favorites. In fact that’s my go-to at these type of places. The tuna, it’s, OMG, I can’t even!
