Dizziness and fatigue

(LeeAnn Brooks) #1

So I’ve been having a major issue with dizziness and an oppressive fatigue lately. Like serious! Yesterday I had to sit down while going up the stairs. And I have missed a couple days work (I NEVER miss work) so this is really worrisome to me. I know what the problems is… electrolytes, not enough sodium effecting my blood pressure, which is naturally low anyway. The problem was finding the right fix. I was determined to go to the store to find supplements yesterday, but I was too exhausted to make it to my car, let alone drive.
Today I felt a little better so I went to work, but every time I tried to stand up, I got light headed and my legs felt so weak.
So I decided to try an old favorite, even though I swore off it more than 15 weeks ago. Zip fizz. I know it has 2 carbs, but it also has magnesium and potassium. I added salt and started to feel better immediately. I also took a calcium citrate magnesium and zinc supplement for some extra kick.

Anyone else use fipfizz? I work at Costco so it’s readily available to me.

Never tried it, but it sounds awesome. 2g carbs isn’t bad.

You’re probably on too much of a deficit as well if you’re that dizzy and light-headed. Definitely up the electrolytes and probably calories. Good luck!

I don’t think calorie deficit is the problem.
For 1) I was on a LF diet for 12 weeks before switching to Keto where I was between 1200–1400 a day. 2) when I switched to Keto, I have been strictly following Leanne Vogals classic Keto meal plan, which has one low day (around 1200) and one high day (over 2000) but most days between 1600-1800 each week, so I’m actually consuming a lot more than pre-Keto. And 3) due to Keto flu I’ve gone from running regularly to barely getting a power walk in and not even hitting 10,000 steps a day when I used to average well over 20,000. So I’m certainly not expending it.

Anyway, it’s been a few hours since my zipfizz and I’m feeling pretty good. I added a ton of salt to my lunch too. So fingers crossed, the dizziness is gone for good as long as I keep on top of it. Otherwise my husband will have a fit if I continue with Keto. I keep explaining the adjustment period to him, but not being able to make it up a flight of stairs without having to rest is not convincing him this is good for me.

If you were LF you probably have really messed up electrolytes right now.
Salt it all, salt in water, and when you think you have added enough add a little more.

One thing I have noticed is when salt hits my tongue and does not taste salty I normally need more, it is sometimes almost sweet tasting.

I have never seen Zipfizz at my local costco. Just by the little bit I read about it you may need to be careful with long term use of that. 41667%(b12) of anything is probably not good.

You may have stripped away potassium as well if salt really dropped away, I would eat a lot of spinach both cooked and raw for the next weeks. If you don’t have a lot of fat reserves you may have to supplement more since a that is were it and magnesium is stored.

you have a very typical symptoms of low blood pressure.

today I visited my sister I asked about here husband she told me he is not feeling well he has very low energy almost faintened and dizzy.

I asked here to give him little salt, he said he felt better while the salt still on his tongue.

he seemed to be totaly depreviated of sodium and maybe other electrolytes not sure.

later I found that he is deprivated from salt because he eleminated salt from his diet because he has chronic hi blood pressure.

Yes, that sound about right. I have always had low blood pressure anyway. I thought I was getting plenty of salt, but I guess not. I’ve been trying to double up all day and I do feel better.

I just completed a 5k run/walk. Mostly walk.

The good news is my energy level was there the whole way. That felt really good.

The bad news is I have lost a lot of muscle tone in the past 3.5 weeks and my legs just couldn’t hold out running more than the first 1.3 miles. I had to intermittently walk/run the rest of it.

But as long as the energy is there, I can build back up.

Feeling a lot more positive today.

You didn’t lose much muscle tone but, you did lose glycogen. People switching to keto after also being fairly active notice a major decrease in ability to exercise like they used to but, with practice you’ll build the stamina back up and find you eventually have more endurance.

Yep cardio suffers with out question, you have to do some more training and try and keep your heart in the LISS area. If you do that and not rely on sprinting energy with some training you will be just fine. The glycogen depletion is real and something you have to deal with, if you work with fat adaption and don’t try and load or back load it becomes a powerful tool.
