Digestive enzymes

Are there benefits to taking them?

Maybe. I drink ACV, sometimes HCA pills. Some enzymes in yogurt, but too many carbs for me.

I believe they helped me when I first started keto and was having digestive issues with high fat foods.

They can help a lot in the first 6 months or so of keto. HOWEVER, many people can become dependent on them, as typically enzyme supplements are concentrated substances far more than one would get by eating a bit of pineapple or papaya etc.

For a win-win, I supplement with Ginger capsules for a variety of reasons including that it is a digestive aid in an enzyme-precursor sorta way, due to its digestive enhancement and its reduction of inflammation. It brings many health benefits and is not as extreme as enzyme supplements, neither is it as expensive!

It also depends on what you’re eating. If your fats generally fall in the dairy category, you may find dry red wine an easy digestive for cheesy meals, due to its stimulation of gastrin release, and gastrin aids digestion.

I use enzyme pills because I have no gallbladder! I didn’t realize why I didn’t feel so good at first. I forgot that I didn’t have a gallbladder. So the enzymes really helped.

Yes, enzymes help very much - it’s just a matter of choosing a wise strategy. Being that Ginger is a digestive, it delivers the enzymatic benefits more gently, basically - so that’s what I like, plus the price! Ideally with keto, we all build up better enzyme balance over time - and I prefer to do so with max benefits.

As far as gall bladders go, there are a number of members here without them who manage great w/ keto! (If you use the search bar up top, and search for gall bladder it’ll give you the entire history of posts  ) Digestive assistance is generally needed for the fats though - esp in the first weeks/months/year until 100% fat adaptation. :avocado: :bacon:

Same here on the no gall bladder front. I also have the exciting dumping syndrome. I take Now Foods Super Enzymes but, find I don’t need them daily. They’ve been amazing.

Definitely for the initial stages at least
