Diabetic T2, 2 months on Keto, IF, Q's for T2's

My wife and I started Keto Dec 1st 2018, I am Type 2 diabetic and have 100+ to lose, and she is maybe 20 lbs to her goal weight.

2 months in and we are down over 50lbs combined. I spent 2 months reading books, watching videos trying to understand how and what Keto is and does. It was Dr Jason Fung who made the biggest impression on me about reversing T2 and adding some fasting to my efforts.

These were my daily meds (before Dec 1st 2018)
140 Units Insulin, 2000mg Metformin, 8mg Amayrl, 100mg Januvia

As of Jan 23rd 2019 I am on
500 Metformin, 4mg Amaryl I am OFF Insulin and Januvia
(not to mention I have lost almost 30lbs)

Overall I feel like the Journey is going well but I am just impatient, I know it took years to gain weight and develop T2, just somedays my sugars are up without any understandable reason and I worry the Endo will make me up the meds again, when I fast the sugars go UP, I read that’s normal the liver is releasing sugars but I am just trying to “trust” and know I am doing what I can and following the plan.

I had a great endo but with job changes and insurance issues I have to find a new one which honestly scares me but I will go in and hope they are reasonable if not I will keep looking for a new endo I guess, just bad timing and I wish my endo took my new insurance. So I sort of feel in limbo as he was the one I would go to report sugars and get the “ok” as to when I could reduce the next rounds altho I am close!

Right now I am on a 48 hour fast and during those my sugars always go up so I am seeing like 160-170, but once I do regular days I am averaging 125-145 so I am hoping once I get things settled find a new endo I can get the sugars down a hair more and eliminate either both or one of these last 2 meds.

I do track with carb mgr and keep my carbs under 20 net, somedays its under 20 total even but i mix in some greens and weigh everything so I am trying to keep accurate numbers.

I realize everyone and every situation is different, but I am still trying to figure out how long my stubborn body will be before I can get the sugars down enough to eliminate all these meds.

We both do weekly updates on Saturday on YouTube, the link is in my profile, I’d love to hear from former T2’s as to approx how long it took to go off your meds and get those crazy sugars under control.

Hello and welcome Bill.

A big congrats for trying and starting to put your health back in order. You’ve come to the right place as there are many folks just like you who have reversed their T2D and changed their life with keto.

Here’s a recent thread that answers some of the questions you ask. Keep in mind, this is a small sampling of reversals. I’ve heard of many of others who have not posted to this thread
