Desserts

Hi,

I was wondering what do people do for desert? Do you train your body not to crave sweet things or do you make deserts with artificial sweeteners?

My issue is a sugar addiction so feeding my sweet tooth seems like a bad idea, so have only been having a few raspberries with thick double cream

Cheers

F

First, if I’m eating fat to satiety, I’m not really interested in dessert. Secondly, a lot of foods that I would have had to sweeten when I was a sugar-burner now taste sweet without additional sugar, so I can have unsweetened whole-milk yoghurt, for example, if I do want something sweet at the end of a meal.

I don’t touch artificial sweeteners for the same reason I don’t touch non-alcoholic beer: too much risk of bingeing on the real thing as a result. For me it’s far easier to abstain than to try to eat sugar “moderately.” One teaspoon is too many, and a thousand aren’t enough.

I’m interested as well.

The Super Fudge recipe in the recipe forum looks good.

Desserts are hard. I want to eat less meals, especially past 7pm. But I sometimes “want something” after dinner. I should probably go for a walk if I feel that way.

If you are just starting out and you have a problem with sweet cravings/overeating I would cut everything sweet for the first few months if you can. It will be hard but you do actually get used to it quite quickly. I have always had a sweet tooth and it is habit for me to crave something sweet in the evening after dinner. If I cut all sweet stuff out that does diminish. It ramps up quickly if I start having it again. What I try and do is have desserts sometimes but not all the time - so just at weekends for example. What you will find though, if you cut it out all together for a while, is that your sweet tooth will diminish and you will find all sorts of things super sweet that weren’t before. This is great because it means you sensitivity to sweet has increased and you will want to use less in your food. Things like red peppers and tomatoes will taste sweet. You will start to appreciate the natural sweetness that exists in a lot of foods.

So my advice in a rambling way is to cut it out for the first few months and then see how you go form there. Good luck. x

Oh I know that sweet tooth well. Once in a great while to satisfy that sweet tooth I will mix two tablespoons of ricotta whole milk cheese, 1 tablespoon of Frozen unsweetened raspberries and a dash of Torani vanilla free sugar syrup. 4 carbs.

In the summer I’d have some Sugar Free Freezies. Didn’t slow my weight loss.
YMMV.

I make ones that me and my wife can have without screwing us up. Some people choose to remove them forever including with sweeteners we can use. I don’t see that as too realistic for most people, nothing wrong with liking a sweet desert. But there is a line between enjoying it and “needing” it. If it’s “need” then you should wind down and get used to less of them until that crack like response in the brain calms down. THEN if you can eat them without going off the wagon go for it.

Thanks everyone.

I do not have a cut off switch when it comes to sweet stuff, if I start eating sweet stuff then I will continue you to eat it.

So I guess I shall have to stay away from it for a couple of months like Daisy suggested.

I wonder if you fat bomb yourself alot you can get addicted to fat in the same way you experience with sugar.

Im not a sugar-a-holic, and I lost weight easy while consuming Diet Pop and Sugar Free Gum. It provided an oral fixation relief here and there.

I usually avoid it unless I am really in the mood. There is @carl whipped mouse that he talks about on his podcast. It is heavy cream whipped, with dark chocolate powder and sweetner. He uses xylitol and melts it in a little heavy cream but you can probably use confectioner grade swerve or truvia instead. Some people substitute powdered peanut butter for the chocolate but I have not tried it and be careful some of those have added sugar
