Dessert on keto

(Eric) #1

So I’ve convinced my girlfriend to go keto after seeing my success. But she wants some dessert options. I’ve never liked sweets myself so it’s never been an issue. She doesn’t like berries and doesn’t like anything with cream cheese. Any recipes I find use one or both of those. Any other options out there?

Try this, it’s awesome.

My “dessert” is two squares of extra dark chocolate with 1 tablespoon all natural, no sugar added peanut butter.

(Eric) #4

Awesome thanks. I’m assuming replace the sugar with stevia or eurythitol though lol

(Eric) #5

Also forgot to mention she doesn’t like chocolate lol

(Ron) #6

Correct-

I’ve been making this everyday. Dessert variation of 90 second bread.
40g erythritol, one serving 100% unsweetened bakers chocolate, and 15g ghee. Nuke 30 seconds, stir. Nuke another 15-30 seconds until liquid.
Stir in 21g almond flour, 5-10g cacao powder, 6-18g powdered PB, .5tsp baking powder, and 1 egg.
Nuke for 90 seconds. Really good cake consistency. Fairly sweet.

What does she normally like for dessert? Practically anything you can come up with other than actual fruit can be created using an artificial sweetener and some flour-substitute - a nut flour, carbalose, carb-quik or some other non-grain flour.

If she wants natural foods and doesn’t like berries, she’s probably out of luck, although if your palate adapts to a totally non-sweet diet, even things like jicama and carrots, or coconut milk, can taste sweet.

(Eric) #9

She is mainly a fruit eater lol. Trying to find alternatives. The ice cream should definitely help

(karen) #10

I think my hubs would love this. Have you ever tried to make it with regular butter? I’m too lazy to clarify it.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #11

Well, that’s just not normal.

Don’t tell me she doesn’t like bacon. That’s ground for a break up.:bacon::bacon::bacon:

(Eric) #12

Now loves bacon and rare steak

(Lonnie Hedley) #13

Yes. I’ve been giving butter a break and buying ghee lately so that’s what I’m using. Replace 15g ghee with 1tbls butter.

Remember there are also a bunch of commercial low-carb ice cream products like Arctic Zone and HaloTop on the market. (the sugar alcohols and fiber don’t count, they say, so they come out pretty low if you limit to a 1/2 cup serving.)

Who eats this much?:tongue::tongue:One bite don’t work for me.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(karen) #16

I’m lucky that way, although I could eat candy for hours, even a little bit of sweet can serve to signal “end of the eating period” for me.

I wanted to go natural and no sweet at all, and that was actually the hardest part of readjusting my satiety signaling, my body would just go on “looking” for that little sugary happy ending. I switched to taking my handful of supplement vitamins at the end of the meal. Nowhere near as pleasant, but it worked.

Sugar free jello? Yum!
Also I make something we call an egg shake lol it’s just some HWC, egg(s) & a sugar free sweetener, in the blender, topped with a bit of cinnamon. It’s good, kinda like a milkshake

I’ve been making these chocolate microwave cakes daily for well over a week. It started out as a way to avoid binging on hostess cakes (my weakness). It’s turned into a way to realize I wasn’t eating hostess cakes for the taste. I was eating them for the dopamine/endorphin release sugar provides. After more than a dozen of these I get great chocolate cake flavor, but not the same pleasure. Unlike the hostess cake binges, I don’t wake up the next day grumpy because my brain is low on those good feeling hormones.

Realizing it’s not about the taste, and knowing how miserable I feel the next day I feel much more confident in my ability to avoid future hostess binges. I’m lucky in that I don’t gain tons of weight during my binges and I’m able to go back to Keto the next day. Definitely happy I have these binges though as they help me gain more self awareness about why I crave this junk.

A bit difficult if she doesn’t like chocolate & berries… I made these with a cream cheese frosting, but they’re nice without: https://www.ruled.me/keto-lemon-poppyseed-muffins/
There’s also lots of recipes for cinnamon rolls; I’ve only tried one which wasn’t that successful in texture but tasted great, if you google for keto version there’s lots to choose from.
I looked for lots of recipes when I first started keto because I couldn’t imagine doing without, but I’m not so worried now & if I have a dessert it’s berries & cream. I’ll have a piece of cheese or coffee & cream to finish off a meal quite often. Your girlfriend might find she gets less of a sweet tooth in time.
