December IF/EF chat - all welcome!

Re constipation it sounds like you are already doing a lot of what I do - sole water has been the main mover (mind the pun) for me as well as adding energy which I didn’t know I was lacking. The only other ingredient I am adding is lots of green leafy veggies - I tried a green smoothy in the morning which actually did help with producing lovely satisfying stools (TMI Lol the things we share on here). But just had my thyroid tested and after having been pretty good and my TSH is elevated (11.84) and I’ve concluded that perhaps it is the goitrogenic effect of the raw greens - sigh - we do need to keep trying things out to see what works! I am now lightly steaming them before eating to counteract the goitrogens but they still seem to be helping

Breaking my longest fast at 72 hours, I could go longer, but I won’t, thinking of doing another on Sunday or Monday. This is fun!!

#163

Have you tried adding psyllium husks (whole or powdered)?

Sooo… my cat has severe constipation due to a nerve injury – it was life threatening a couple of times. I add Miralax to his food but it’s still problem. I just started him on a psyllium cat food and WOW. He’s been going like crazy. I mean like normal, not the runs or anything. But it’s sure working great.

Just throwing this out there.

I love the sparkling Pellegrino. I drink it in the evenings as a treat on the days I’m fasting and it feels like a reward. Makes fasting ever so slightly easier for me.

#165

I made it to 99 hours. I wanted to eat dinner with my family so I did. Two months ago you could have never told me I could go this long without eating and no way would I have believed how amazing I would feel.
I went to this amazing brewery with my bestie this morning they were doing cookie decorating for the kids. We each had six cookies to decorate and they also put our amazing looking and smelling bacon and deep fried gourmet donuts. I turned all that down and the craft beer that come with my ticket.
I’m amazed by me! Thanks Keto!!

I’ve read about sole water - how much do you drink at a time? Do you dilute it at all after you make it?

(Naomi Brewster) #167

No - ingredients - glass jar with plastic lid (metal will corrode). Himalayan salt crystals - about a 3rd of a jar. Fill the rest of the jar with filtered water. Let it sit for a good 24 hours and if all the salt has dissolved into the water then add more salt until there is a little bit left (water is saturated with salt apparently about 26% - I’m not a chemist or scientist so will take their word for it). Every morning have about 5ml in a glass of normal water (use plastic spoon) and other times if necessary (it’s hot here in Melbourne so I have also been having another 5ml before going for a walk etc). I generally go by taste - if it tastes good, then I need it. If it doesn’t, then I probably don’t. Seems like a fine line and one time I had swollen ankles which implied water retention - I scaled it back a little and the water retention has disappeared - so just do what feels right to your body.

Hoping this helps with my :poop: situation

Hey gang! Wasn’t going to EF any more this month but I found a spot I can fit in a 48 hour fast this week and I’m taking it! I love that when it’s going to be a pain in the butt to figure out a dinner solution, my solution is skip dinner! SO MUCH EASIER. KCFO

Me too Liz! I just finished my 3 day fast on Friday night but jumping back in today after a morning meal. Trying out different meal time configurations :relaxed:

(Liz ) #171

Right on, like, switching it up you mean? Keeping your metabolism guessing?

#172

Yes, I figured, I don’t really drink and I don’t buy other packaged drinks so I can splurge on Pellegrino, especially if water (and some fat) is the only things Im having on the day.

#173

Not really, just as far as hunger or energy. I’m trying to see what works better for me, so far dinner has always been a last meal, today I’ll do a breakfast and the clock with start.
Do you do water only? I’m doing a fat fast, BPC in am and one or two tablespoons of butter at night.
I lost net of 2.2. on the last 3 day fast. How much on average do you lose?

#174

I finished 99 hours yesterday, is it okay to start another, maybe longer fast today?

#175

Bravo! I have the same question. How long between fasts?

#176

I just read something about “recovery time” but I’m not sure if that is just someone’s opinion. One guy on ketotrasformations on Instagram said he fasted 23/1 everyday for a year.

#177

Oh wow. In that case he probably ate the most dense and nutritious foods in the eating hour. I only did 72 hours and ended it the day before yesterday. I’d say start and see how you feel. I think you’ll know if its too much on you.

(Liz ) #178

I see. I do total 2 tsp MCT and 1 tbs heavy cream in my morning coffees whether I’m extended fasting or IFing or whatever. After that it’s only salt, water, and tea with nothing in it.

I think I lost about 2 pounds net from the last 72 hour fast. I am down to maybe 20 pounds left to lose and they don’t go anywhere if I’m not fasting.

#179

[/quote] Yup same here. Ive lost about 9 lbs total, I actually thought this is my goal weight but now Im thinking I can still go down. The reality is, I’ve always considered myself big boned but now I’m realizing its not all bones

Just starting a water fast today - hoping to go the full week before Christmas madness starts to kick in next weekend.
