December IF/EF chat - all welcome!

Hi @azviking Check out the thread I started called “Gaining all of my weight back after fasting”…I think that was the title. Just search with those words and it should come up. The forum was EXCELLENT with helping me understand what was happening and how to resolve it. I had very similar issues and it was freaking me out. I gained 7 pounds in three days after the second fast and 10 pounds after the first one. I was Not a happy camper to see all of that weight come back after all of the hard work with fasting.

For the first time, I am going to try an experiment where I eat very very moderately during my refeed. No hamburgers, bacon, steaks. Just going to keep it light and then see how it affects my weight. I also believe that I have not been breaking my fast correctly. I have been going straight to the heavy meats and my stomach seems to rebel every time. This time I will take it SLOOOWWW. Mac nuts, salads, maybe a few berries, fish and crab. I also found that jumping back into all of my supplements seemed to mess things up too. It will be fun to experiment to see how things go this time. Meagan Ramos suggested that we really feed well and up our calories before fasting again. But I believe she means with healthy fats, not a large volume of food. Keep me posted about how it goes for you.

That’s great! I cant get past 48 hours it seems, how was your first couple of days? Keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Nicole, this makes me happy to hear, I also do lots of Omads but longer fasts scare me. Hoping to do a 3 day one before the end of the year. Good luck

Today is also a warrior fast; yesterday’s fast went past 24 hrs because I didn’t get home from my gig until after 8 pm. I have another gig tonight so I will probably end up right at 24 hours.

Broke my fast after 80 hours. Total weightloss was 5.5 lbs. Broke my fast with som BP Coffee. First 48 hours were the hardest. Day three was as “magical” as many described but I did notice that food felt very optional. Day 3 I was hardly bothered while preparing food for the rest of my family. Day 2 was rough as just getting a wiff of food would trigger serious growls. But like every hunger pang, they passed. The mornings were amazing, Day 2 and 3 I would wake up with alot of energy. Frankly, I could have kept going, but we had some weather rolling in and I wan’t sure if I was feeling the effects of allergies or fasting. Either way, it was my first time so caution is likely best.

Based on my experience, I say push through the 48 hours. It only gets more tolerable after that. Hunger truly is temporary. I imagine this is only easy on keto. Can’t imagine being a carb burner and trying this.

TMI section

Breaking my fast wasn’t that hard on my GI. The BP coffe did trigger a bit of diarhea, but not much. I then added an egg and low carb toast a few hours later with no adverse effects.

That sounds awesome… let us know how it goes.

I got an A on my speech! A lot of people asked questions during the Q&A part. I hope I sparked something. I’m glad it’s over though.
One more week until finals!

Ended up stoppig at 80 hours. Woke up a little phlegmy, but likely due to weather changes and allergies. Figured 80 was good a for a first fast and I want to listen to my body with other factors like allergies mixing the signals. Next month will be interesting.

First fast, 80 hours…FANTASTIC! I hope you’ll feel better soon, and best wishes for your future fasts. You know you’ve got all kinds of support right here

It’s a minor annoyance, but thank you!

I know everyone has different experiences but I will tell you I’ve been low carb since 2003 & so stopped eating other people’s sweets over a decade ago & have never reverted. So it is possible! I know that’s a lot of years but it happened at the beginning that I no longer considered those foods options for me. My troubles came more in the form of going paleo later & being too liberal with honey, maple syrup, sweet potatoes, and fruit in my own home. But going Keto broke that spell too. I hope you get this freedom someday!!

69 hours in! I’ll be breaking my fast at 70 hours. The short ribs are in the slow cooker & driving me crazy lol!! I’ll break with some olives & a few macadamias an hour ahead of dinner to ease my gut back into dealing with food.

Had a mild headache all day but I tried to stay busy & not think about it. I hit a new low on the scale but I don’t expect to get to stay there. Still, it was nice to see

Love reading all your experiences! Thanks for sharing.

Yeah Liz i’m Having that too - some days feel so slim and other days blown out of all proportion. Reminds me how much of a mind game this is.

18 hrs into a 36 he. fast.

We are getting a lot of remodeling done so we are at a hotel for at least 8 days. They provide breakfast and a light evening meal.

Breakfasts haven’t been a problem. Dinners more of a challenge, so I decided to add some fasting.

I am very happy I have not fallen into my old stress eating habit. I am keeping calm and carrying on. I love this WOE.

#94

Yeah, I agree, fasting breath is worse than keto breath, lol.

I’ve been doing the alternate day fasting for about a week now (fasting M, W, and Fridays). I feel fantastic and the fasting periods have naturally increased themselves (43 hours the last one) just due to convenience and not being preoccupied with food and breaking the fast. I think I’m going to try my first 5 day fast during the weekdays next week and will likely join the December Zorn fast. Will be nice to have some other people fasting at the same time.

Hello, my fast friends! I hope you are all doing well! Missing the forum, this thread especially…and catching up now.

New work/project, and requires driving to work now instead of public transport (my keto forum time) :pensive:.

Easy BPC twice a day at new job site though. Then dinner with family.

True that!

:pensive: Although a little sad to lose on the butt  area. Why is TUMMY so hard to lose! Argh!

Today is day…I don’t know 15 maybe? I think this fast is about over. It was open ended and I wanted to reach a weight goal. I don’t think I am going to make that weight BUT I made great progress with this fast. Not going to consider this a failure. I have hung in there but my body is starting to SCREAM at me that it no longer wants to do this. I have stopped losing weight which is a big sign that it’s time to stop. I am feeling weaker each day and I’m starting to get cranky. One thing that I am doing during this fast is skipping my mutli vitamin. I read different things with varying opinions regarding if the multi vitamin is really needed or not. I have read that it can stop full autophagy. But I think I need the nutrients. It seems like it makes no difference, 14 days is my max. I will keep trying to flex my fasting muscles and one day I will be able to keep going. THi is my third 14 day fast and I have noticed that days 11,12,13,14 are when I feel the absolute worst. I also stop losing weight. I think that is a very clear sign that 14 is my max. I will refeed tomorrow and then be back at on Monday for a short 5 day turn around.

(Liz ) #99

You did amazing!! If the fast lowered your basal insulin rate like they say it should, you have done yourself a huge favor for future weight loss & maintenance.

(Liz ) #100

My refeed went so so, a little bit of bathroom trouble right after dinner, and in the night, some nausea. But today the headache is finally gone & I feel back on track. I always eat too much on refeed. If I’m fasting I have no problem not eating, but if I’m eating I tend to overdo it, all Keto, but still. It’s like the floodgates open & off I go! So I will try to wait to eat until this evening so as to shorten the time during the day I’m raising my insulin.
