So I’m kind of a perfectionist…
I am on day 4, and i THINK I’ve been doing pretty good so far. I’ve kept my carbs below 25 TOTAL, macros have been perfect, etc But that was the weekend…
I work at a Chinese restaurant, lol and today I thought, hey I’ll have grilled chicken and broccoli. Then decide last second to put crab meat in it thinking that was good. Now I know it’s made of starch and fish, at a totally of 14g carb for the amount I had.
I’m freaking out because I want to succeed at thks so badly, and I messed up this bfast on day 4?!:"(
I need help. :"(
Day 4, freaking out. :(
Cassandra! No freaking out allowed.
That was not a horrible transgression, but maybe not the best. As the Keto dudes say, “Keep calm and Keto On.” Working at a Chinese restaurant is rough though, a lot of sweet sauces there to tempt you. By the way, if you eat rice, try to eat rice that has been cooled over night. It becomes a resistant starch and won’t spike the blood sugar nearly as much as freshly cooked warm rice. But that has not been studied that thoroughly yet. Same with potatoes.
Take deep, slow breaths…you’ll be fine. Promise. You only have to be perfect most of the time.(And not even then.)
And so you will succeed. Work at keeping your carbs down, don’t get wrapped around the axle if you have a slip-up, just learn, Keep Calm and Keto On! Perfection is not required here. You can do this!
Trip ups are inevitable, it’s how you learn. We’ve all done it. It’s not like you ate an accidental donut…
Try to keep your carbs under 20. The longer you do this the less you’ll be tempted by senseless carbs! You’re going to do great!
Will it effect how long it takes to reach ketosis?
I’ve been freaking out all 4 days that I’m not eating right lol.
But i have symptoms of “keto flu”…??
After a couple weeks you’ll get the hang of things. Test your ketones and you’ll know if you made a major boo boo or not.
Yeah, eating some carbs while you are trying to get into Ketosis will slow you down.Especially sugary foods. I never check my levels but I know if I’ve eaten very low carbs for 2 days I will probably be there. And if you have a little Keto Flu that might be more of an indicator. I don’t think I ever had that flu though. I got lucky. And now that I have been fat adapted I find I get back into Ketosis at some level pretty quickly. Maybe a day if I did’t go crazy with desserts or something.
even with my catastrophe today, I’m only at 15 carb (not net but total), but I’m worried it’ll destroy my progress.i know I’m probably just being silly.
I am a lover of bread, so going to this few carbs is like, insane for me lol. that’s why I’m assuming it’s the flu but I’m so new to this I have no idea for sure…
I have been there. Don’t be too down on yourself! Just put it behind you and kcko! Working at a Chinese restaurant you could have done a lot worse haha
You can do it!! As mentioned, we have all been there. This forum has helped me a great deal get through my cravings and has helped me understand so much more about doing Keto right! We are here for you!
Since you just started, go to target or wal mart and get a product called ketostix (by Bayer)

After a month or two you’ll need a blood monitor.
Here’s a good one: https://keto-mojo.com
Note the lesson from it, understand that this is a lifestyle and NOT an event, and Keep Calm and Keto On. You will be fine and this is actually a good thing as you can now realize that you have the support of your fellow keto sins and that you can have an issue from time to time and everything will still be okay. This is coming from a “perfectionist” also just so u know lol. Be blessed!
"Well, you see, Your Honor, it’s like this: I was walking along, minding my own business, when suddenly I tripped and fell into three dozen doughnuts, and somehow they all fell down my throat . . . "
Because one doughnut is too many, and a thousand aren’t enough . . .

You’ll be fine, Cassandra. No big deal. Keep on!
