I’m on my 11th day of Keto and I’ll I can say is Wow! This puppy works!!
I decided to try this for 2 reasons. First, I have 15-20lbs I’d like to lose. Second, I have had some significant GI issues the past year and after watching The Magic Pill I thought Keto might help.
Bottom line…absolutely NO GI issues since day 2, minus very, very minor heartburn twice that seem to be associated with tomatoes. That is amazing for me. I was taking Tums like water and on Prilosec when things just got too intense. (Days where I would just throw up because of the distress in my system.) Crazy abdominal pain and associated ickiness. Gone, gone, gone. It is fabulous!!!
Weight Loss - I don’t get on the scale, as I’m scale phobic. I use a pair of jeans to measure. I could barely button them when I started. Today they are a bit tight (for my taste…I like things very loose on me) but could totally wear them and not feel too uncomfortable. I can totally see it in my face and notice my mid-section is less thick. I use Keto sticks daily now. Ketosis showed up, pretty dark purple, on day 3. Have maintained that consistently, although I notice if I haven’t eaten very much, the color is lighter.
What I’m Eating - Eggs, bacon, steak, chicken, smoked salmon and cream cheese, string cheese and other slices of cheese (brie, cheddar), cheese burgers (not fast food), lots of avocado, almonds, natural peanut butter, coconut oil, butter, lettuce, spinach, cucumber, broccoli, edamame, cream in my coffee, Stevia, Natural Calm before bed, extra salt on most everything, herbal tea, iced tea, La Croix sparkling water
Recipes I’ve Tried: keto chili (yummy), keto chicken tikka masala (really yummy), bulletproof coffee (just once, I threw up a few hours later, probably not enough food in my tummy to handle all the fat), a chocolate fudge fat bomb (not worth the hassle.)
How it’s Going - pretty good! Keto flu hit around day 2. Subsided last couple of days. As long as I have my Natural Calm and extra salt I seem to do really well. No more headaches or lightheadedness (that was really bad last week.) If I don’t eat enough, I get a bit nauseous. And it’s easy not to eat enough because my appetite really seems to be suppressed. My energy seems to be getting better and better each day. I work and travel a ton, so don’t get to the gym as much as I like. But I’m walking whenever I can and my gym workouts have been ok…not awesome but not lame either.) Cravings are much better than I thought they’d be this early on. Diet Coke seems to be the one thing I still crave but have stayed away from it completely. I’ve been surrounded by some crazy sugar and carbs lately and had no problem passing it by…especially when there is also delicious steak, avocado, and cheese nearby (see photo, a Keto lunch dream!) I even had half a glass of wine one evening. (I LOVE wine.) I felt like I was still partaking in the celebration, without overindulging.
One weird thing, maybe its just me, but my dreams are way different these days. Vivid and very story-like. Not necessarily bad, just very interesting and entertaining.
I’m headed to San Francisco this weekend for a conference. I know I’ll eat clean while I’m there. I will have a glass of wine each night while meeting new friends and colleagues and enjoying the city. I’m looking forward to having the energy and not having to deal with all the GI issues that typically get in my way each day…so I can be fully present and fully enjoy this awesome weekend.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 20 bring (I committed to a minimum of 30 days, an experiment to see how it worked for me.) I can definitely see making this a way of eating and way of life.
So for those who are wondering about Keto…give it a shot! Don’t overthink things. Know it will be a bit tough in the very beginning, but you may also experience benefits from the beginning.
