A Dairy-Free discussion / recipes that have been tried would be an excellent resource. I eat dairy daily and notice my weight loss is consistent when I eliminate dairy or limit the type of dairy. I’d like to see dairy-free recipes you’ve made and enjoy!
Dairy-Free
Canned or boxed coconut milk was something I used a lot when I did Whole30 (no dairy). I would put it in my coffee. My favorite brand is Aroy-D because it is pure coconut milk without additives.
Good idea! I plan to go dairy free mid January after I have adapted and to coincide with a weight lo$$ challenge. Right now cheese is the only thing keeping me going!
I came to keto from Whole30 where I was dairy free (also AS free, artificial sweeteners), though I used butter. My 23andMe results showed that I was probably dairy intolerant. I was eating a lot of dairy, especially cheese. I never thought that I could give it up but it wasn’t a problem. I was at goal weight when I started keto, dairy and AS free. I then proceeded to lose a few pounds which just happened…I wasn’t trying to lose weight. I introduced dairy at the beginning of this year (been keto for over 2 years) and noticed that I was starting to feel bloated - not feeling as good as I did dairy free. Have cut back on dairy and I feel a lot better. Dairy can be quite nutritious but also calorie dense.
I realized dairy and I were not getting along so I use coconut milk as a replacement and I’m learning to make dairy free “cheese”. I still use butter. My daughter has the same issues, but lactose free didn’t help. She found that she can tolerate A2 milk (different protein). It doesn’t come in cream or cheese, but I tried a little while A2 milk the other night and tolerated it very well. Hope they will start using it for cream and cheese soon.
Dairy is something I have loved having back in my daily life since learning about lchf in August & diving into keto in November thanks to the 2ketodudes. Having been basically dairy free the past few years while eating quite “healthy” it has been a great pleasure to eat cheese, butter & double cream these past few months. I am however very curious to see how my body will respond to a period of dairy free keto eating & have been thinking about it for a while so that will start on 1 Jan 2017 - this might be a good place for me to share how it goes ? Would be great to know if anyone else is planning to do the same. My plan is to also cut the processed (deli style) meats which have become a larger part of my diet lately & replace with real meats & fish. Go more towards zero carb which I see elsewhere on this forum some people are doing from 27 Dec or January 2017. I had been planning to retain avocado & olives when dairy free to lessen the impact of dropping dairy though reading about the zero carb is making me question this. My first post here (not a forum or Facebook user) so hope it’s ok.
NEED some dairy free food ideas-newdoc suggested I may want to try dairy free to end stall
Paleo recipes are generally dairy free but not necessarily keto. So the trick is to adapt. Choose Paleo recipes without a lot of carbs or substitute where carbs are called for, or substitute dairy in keto recipes with coconut or almond milk. I make coconut yogurt, use coconut milk in place of cream, and I’m even experimenting with making non-dairy “cheese”.
Eggs are harder because they supply protein, fat, and leavening to recipes. You could try subbing flax meal or protein powder (I use Great Lakes collagen) for egg.
If you google "Paleo autoimmune recipes) you’ll find many are egg and dairy free.
