Couldn't Wait to Test Again

(Chantay) #1

I was going to wait another week to test, but I couldn’t help myself. Tonight I’m at .4, which is up from my incredibly and infuriatingly consistent .2! It’s the first time the meter has moved.

Today: 130g fat, 18g total carbs, 71g protein
Yesterday: 145g fat, 31g total carbs, 64g protein

Are these better targets? It’s weird to be so low on protein (lifters generally chant “protein! protein! protein!” while wearing ceremonial vestments and sacrificing small animals… which they then eat for the protein. So it’s ANOTHER change in mindset along with “eat ALL THE FAT”!)

I know a .2 jump isn’t huge, but it feels like a victory!

Thanks everyone for the help – I’m sure it gets really fucking old telling people to eat more fat over and over again, but for those of us on the receiving end, it’s great to have the support.

Eat.
Moar.
Fat.

Still even? I’m kinda worried about calories – I’ve been gaining weight, even being super active and lifting. Again, trying to be patient and just trust that my body is healing, but I’m not necessarily thrilled with the idea of losing all the progress I’ve already made. I’m shooting for 1600ish calories a day. I could bump to around 1800 calories and get the extra 200 from fat, it’ll be 22 extra grams a day. Would that be a reasonable next step?

Also, just cause I was thinking about it in the shower, new keto-ers are like horses. Every horse I’ve ridden or trained is scared to death of water. Not going in there, surely going to die. Nope, not fucking happening. But then you coax and teach and coax some more and tell them it’s okay, no, really, you’re not going to die you pussy just get in the goddamned water. Then eventually they do, and you’re like. Yeah. I fucking told you so. So I’m being a dumb horse, but I’m working on it.

Also, HOLY CRAP BRENDA TALKED TO ME. I didn’t have food in my teeth, right? Was my hair ok? I wasn’t, like, too weird or anything? I’ve never interacted with a celebrity before! :scream:

Oh christ. Really? Smdh. Celebrity. Ha!

But seriously. Relax about the numbers for awhile. That’d drive me insane. Just keep the carbs low and eat enough fat so your body knows that that is it’s available fuel.

And wait.

My body is STILL changing positively after almost 4 years eating ketogenically. I really think the worst you can do is be overly restrictive.

Seriously. Relax. Life was meant to be enjoyed. If you are eating low carb, adequate protein, and fat to satiety…
Everything will work out. Be patient. I promise, keto is fuckingmagical.

Yeah, relaxing isn’t my forte, but I’m trying. I’m a total stress ball (demanding work, very difficult family life right now), and I KNOW the cortisol is a problem.

Deep breathing while I literally eat Kerrygold with a spoon, I’ll try that instead of meditating.

Try sprinkling pumpkin pie spice on it or cinnamon, then scooping it up with toasted salted pecans.

Hi, @Brenda, what’s the intended effect or outcome of recommending that she eat more fat if she is not complaining of hunger and is saying she’s gaining weight? I understand the eat-more-fat recommendation when someone is new to keto and complaining of hunger (and not eating enough fat), but in this particular post, I don’t follow the recommendation and was wondering what the science/rationale is behind it, especially since you do make the satiety point.

Or, were you being more tongue in cheek and I completely missed it, which is possible!

Likely has more to do with getting over the fat phobia many of us have drilled into our heads from years (or decades!) of low fat, high protein diets. You have to get over that first hurdle psychologically.

This.

If I’m not mistaken, @Chantruese isn’t following her hunger and satiety signals. Like a lot of us at first, she’s worried about the calories. That’s why eating more fat is a good advice, to leave behind that mindset.

I think I’ll have this for dinner.

I’ve had spoonfuls of heavy whipped cream in my coffee. Even neat. But I am not ready to eat scoops of butter … Soon, my pretties.

Stress is your enemy. Reconsider the mediating bit, and cutting back on the bodily stress of exercising.

Good luck on finding your balance.
