Considering a 7 day fast

#1

Hi. I’ve now been doing keto and fasting for little over a year.
I plan to celebrate the occasion by doing a 7 day fast self challenge.
So far The longest fast I’ve done is 5 days.

I was in good physical condition going into this.
My motivations are primarily within cognitive optimisation.
I use various types of interventions and track how they influence my performance.

I haven’t decided when to start this fast and how to execute.
My current thoughts though are to start with a 2 day dry fast followed by a 5 day water fast.
Low intensity workout and walks in nature coupled with mental challenges and (unavoidable;) work.

Will share thoughts on my experience.

I am not a big believer in dry fasts - but then I follow Fung & Ramos’ advice.

Sure - why not? Just finding the right time so its fits into the social calendar is usually the hardest part. Though not sure where/why dry fasting factors in. As long as you have availble fat stores, no need for food. But we’re not camels - and fasting/keto is dehydrating enough (in my opinion). I’ve done a few 7day fasts and did not eliminate water. In fact planning one next week as my SO is going to be away so the time is all mine :grinning:

What timing!? I too have completed a 5 day fast before and plan on doing a 7 day fast. In fact, the plan was to fast this week, my last meal (ribeye smothered in butter) was about 3 hours ago and that’s it, I started. My timing will include a men’s retreat I am going on with no control over the menu, plus I like the spiritual connection I feel after my third day fasting. I think the mental clarity will enhance my experience on this retreat too, so that’s a bonus.

Good luck, and keep me posted.

One thing I have learned for sure is to tell people that you are “eating less”, instead of fasting, because everyone will chime in on your fast. And some will make it their mission to get you to fail, for your health’s sake. Especially family and friends. Y’all can do it!!!

I have thick skin and am bull headed. So when they say “do you want a little something?” I just say I’m fasting. Most times they just don’t parse what I’m saying and just move on
