Hey everyone, I’m new here but read a lot of nice things on here in the past. I decided to come out from the shadows and actually post something because I truly need help. Forgive me if I don’t know how things work around here. I’m sure I can find a post similar to mine but everyone is different. I’m having a rough time right now. Obviously I’m gonna be consulting with my doctor but I feel like there are many of you out there that can give me good advice. Let me start by saying I love the keto lifestyle and it’s been remarkable. However, lately I feel lethargic and fatigued as though I just ate an all you can eat bread and sugar buffet. My blood pressure has been pretty high as well and I’m not sleeping good. Even if I do sleep I wake up tired and my head is feeling heavy. I would very much like to know about mineral intake. I recently started taking a potassium citrate supplement and having less sodium as ordered by my doctor. I’m just so confused by what to do with mineral intake especially sodium. Should I decrease salt to fix BP issues or do I need to keep up salt intake because of being keto? Is it a good idea to supplement potassium and magnesium? I do of course eat loads of veggies especially cruciferous vegetables and dark leafy vegetables but don’t get to eat them in sufficient amounts all the time.
Things to consider for my situation:
I’m under tremendous stress currently because of taking on homeownership for the first time in my life. And my sick sister is moving in with me which means lots of financial burden.
I’ve been keto for about 6 months. Maybe more. Never got into this for weight loss. I’m actually working on gaining muscle weight. I’m at 12% body fat.
I’ve always been tremendously happy and healthy and this slightly negative turn in my health is very new and a little scary. I’m 27 years old and a gymnast by hobby so I’m pretty strong and active so this dip in energy and increased BP has done me no favors. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
