Are you doing it drip-brew or French Press?
French Press will bring out flavors you never knew coffee even had, if all you’ve ever had was drip brew.

This morning’s breakfast was very decadent. I had coffee with double cream (English for heavy cream I think). It was about half coffee, half cream- seriously- and delicious!
I just started adding cayenne to my coffee grounds. I thought I was a genius for thinking of this It’s so amazing, I don’t know why everybody doesn’t put cayenne in their grounds!!! Well, at least everybody who likes things spicy
That sounds like an amazing new drink to try. How much in a cup do you use out of interest?
I give it a good shake, which is probably about 1/8 teaspoon. Start with a little less than that and then increase until you hit the right amount of zing.
I am a JavaJunkie, plain and simple. Started drinking coffee when I was 6. Black. Never drank it with cream until I was in my 30’s. Sweetener, once in a blue moon, if it was really bad restaurant coffee.
For me, a really good quality coffee never needed anything added. I just enjoy the taste. If you have a coffee, that isn’t a high quality one, then try adding a good pinch of salt to the grinds before you brew it. Salt mellows out that bitterness. Adding a little heavy cream does wonders. When I am having a sugar craving, I’ll add a pinch of Truvia or Sweet and low. Never a whole packet…just a few granules.
Other things I’ve done, for something that tastes sort of like a dessert…Pumpkin Latte. Hot coffee, coconut oil, pinch of Truvia or S And L, Heavy cream, a couple shakes of pumpkin spice, and 2 TBS of pumpkin puree. Blast it with a hand blender, and you’ve got a damn tasty hot pumpkin pie in a cup!
I gross my whole family out with this one, but the Liquid Chicken Latte is really my favorite. 1 or 2 raw eggs, pinch of sweetener, heavy cream, coconut oil and hot coffee. Hand blender for a minute and you’ve got amazing frothy deliciousness. Caffeine- check. Protein- check. Fat- check.
If you’re really dying for sweetener, and like flavors too, the Torani brand coffee flavors have a sugar free version. I think it is sucralose sweetened. I can’t do splenda or sucralose as it seems to irritate my throat terribly, and I lose my voice. Might be due to the sugar being chlorinated, and I used to be a competitive swimmer- and now am very sensitive to chlorine. IDK. But, there’s a plethora of sweeteners available. Xylitol is a great one too. No issues there.
I think overall it’s best to avoid the sweeteners altogether. Your taste buds will adapt. Later, when you taste something with sweetener, it;ll blow your socks off because you really pick up on sweetness like never before. That’s why heavy cream tastes sweet to so many of us. Best wishes with your java journey!
I use a French Press, but I would guess that a standard drip would work just as well. Let me know!
Ok, I finally remembered to try this today. SO GOOD!!! I can confirm, you are a genius for thinking of this.
