Coffee lovers call out

(Katie) #21

I add salt, cinnamon, and cayenne to my black coffee. Cinnamon has a slightly sweet feeling to it.

Agree. I simply don’t like coffee without sweetener and see no reason to stop using it. I usually only have one cup/day anyway, my morning commute cup. I add HWC, coconut oil, a pinch of salt, and either (usually) some sugar-free flavored syrup or a packet of Pyure sweetener.

I also use the Pyure in my iced tea that I drink all evening after work.

Artificial sweeteners can cause insulin spikes in some people, in others they don’t. I’ve tested my reaction to several different sweeteners, and they had no adverse effect on me.

It’s totally individual, so do what works for you.

Drink it the way you LIKE it! I’m all for people trying to reduce artificial sweetener use especially ones that don’t have a great track record, but the fact is we like what we like and I’m not into this purest crap of never eating anything that tastes sweet, sweet stuff tastes good! If you’re using the better ones, and not being a lunatic with them who cares?

For people that claim an artificial sweetener stalls them, fine get rid of it, but that’s a totally different discussion.

I’m also a coffee snob and I’m very picky with my coffee’s but I like them sweetened. I think you either have the taste for it or you don’t. I’ve tried more times than I can count to reduce down to nothing and it never works.

“Pure” sucralose was the game changer for me. I bought a 1 pound bag about two years ago and it’s still got about 1/3 left. Although I’m more and more enjoying just HWC with my coffee. I switched to grinding my own beans and french pressing them.

Edit: I sometimes add cinnamon and/or salt too and that totally changes the flavour profile.

Personally, I still add liquid stevia to my iced coffee every morning and feel fine about it. It took me a few months of keto before the weight really started coming off, and the small amount of sweetener in my diet doesn’t seem to make a difference. Maybe just give yourself a pass on using sweetener when it comes to coffee and abstain other than that?

If you are determined to quit all sweetener, though, including coffee, perhaps try just gradually decreasing sweetener over time if going cold-turkey seems like too much, in order to let your taste buds adjust?

The only other option I can see is quitting coffee altogether, unfortunately.

Great harvest Saigon cinnamon is incredible. I know right? How incredible can cinnamon be. Trust me. It is. I have that with mct, hwc, butter, salt, and a little cocoa powder every day. I’m totally addicted.

#27

I just ordered these, you made them sound so good!

(Amy Ramadan) #28

(Charlotte) #29

I can’t find that brand of Saigon Cinnamon online…where do you get it?

(Carissa JB) #30

Walmart has a really delicious Creme Brulé flavored coffee. No carbs or sweeteners, It tastes good black.

I’m an iced coffee drinker an started putting salt in my coffee after reading it in this thread, it’s the best! I’m also trying to stop using sweeteners, now I put HWC, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon in mine and it’s a treat, best way to start the day. :relieved::coffee:

(Frank) #32

It’s sold at cub foods which may be a regional Midwest thing.

(Frank) #33

There’s a spice hunter brand Saigon cinnamon on amazon.

Coconut oil and butter. Blend it in a blender. CHANGED MY LIFE!

I love, love, love coffee and would never give it up. I am one of those people who can drink it before going to bed and have no problem sleeping. I drink cappucinos, two or three a day with really good daily ground fresh roasted Arabica beans. I use a latose free milk called Fairlife that has only 6 grams of carbs for a cup. I use a third of a cup to make my drink. There is also a coffee creamer called Prymal that only has one net carb and comes in several flavors and it is sweetened with erythritol, all organic with MCT oil and coconut milk powder. It is great.I just cannot stomach having an oil slick in my coffee. I have tried all those so called Keto BHB expensive additives and always find them cloyingly sweet. Also they have to be kidding about the price. Whatever works for you is great.

(Charlotte) #36

Ah. That must be why. I’m up in Maine.

(Charlotte) #37

Awesome, I’m gonna give that a try! Thanks!

(Frank) #38

Maine and northern mn look very similar. Your trees are just bigger.

Add a dollop of heavy whipping cream and a little sweetner for a delectable butter cream coffee experience! :grinning:

(Suzanne Michalik) #40

I use about 1/8 tsp of coarse gray salt in my coffee. I add about 3 drops of liquid stevia as well - although I could probably leave it out. But I like how the salt “sweetens” the coffee. Plus heavy cream.
