The carnivore miracle continues… now down 3.5kg over 6 days, and feeling like something dramatic is happening… and fast!

I always viewed carnivore as something very extreme for people with specific health issues. That thinking has completely changed now… I love being carnivore, it’s a whole new impetus to getting healthy, fit and losing the unneeded and unwanted weight.

There’s one downside… I am a fruit and veg gardener… and my wife asked me yesterday what am I going to do with all that fruit and veg that I grow on our land now? I told her she was going to have to eat it. :joy::joy::joy:

(Linda ) #503

Feed it to the animals to eat? Then you eat them Lol…

#504

I’m so glad you’re having great results, Alec - and I laughed out loud at this.

You are making a wonderful poster guy for Carnivore

Alot of people, even those extreme low carbers are just plain scared of zero carb. I think a few reasons are scared to give up all variety, scared they ‘must have and must need’ vitamins etc from plants and must be eaten or ill health, which we know is bunk. Nature gives all from the animal proteins point blank. Another is just the time to ‘allow zc to work’ can be tough, that adaption time and the work involved in changing over to this lifestyle can be harsh, many just won’t commit the time to hold this plan to get results.

but you broke the mold on your post…you are doing fantastic and you faced some fears of this plan thinking only some of us ‘must be here’ when in fact, this is a lifestyle eating plan for the entire human race, if they want better heatlh

Keep on going!! Those veg, donate to neighbors. Put bags of veg on doorsteps, ring the bell and run HAHA

Exercise caution. Not al health markers, especially how much you weigh, indicates a good and healthy diet.
Saying that…keto has sorted me out and my consultant can’t believe it.
Foer T2 people, undeniably it makes sense to quit carbs.

I think I love I love my ‘keto allowed veg’ too much to go full carnivorous.
they are gorgeous, healthy, and cause no problems…quite the opposite.
Red cabbage…

#507

Just checked my grammar there…atrocious spelling etc.

Going to sleep now!

Singing this to the tune of “The Wanderer”…
I’m the type of gal
that never settles down…
Eating steak and eggs
as I roam from town to town…
I’m the Carn-i-vore
the Carn-i-vore
eating meat. Meaty meat… meaty meat…
LOL. Sorry guys. But I had to. I’ve been literally eating steak and eggs EVERYWHERE we go.

I think we’ve finally figured out this hellish sneezing situation. The lady at Chico’s said mold levels have been very high down here due to precipitation- and no real time to dry out. Coupled with wind and all kinds of debris…kinda makes sense. Doing much better today, though. The sun was out, we laid on the beach, played in the ocean. Yes, it was only 61F…but to me…it felt like 80F.

Tomorrow we start heading back north. Going to stop in GA to see more of my family. Then head back to MI on Friday. Hoping to stop at the Aldi store before the Mackinaw bridge and load up on butter, etc. I miss my doggles. Betting the puppy gained another 5 pounds this week. So, Rufus and the chubby dragon will be waiting for us Saturday afternoon. YAY!

Okay, so that is the roadside update. Take care, y’all!!!

Right.

Good for you, I’m glad!

I have lost a friggen quarter of my body weight…and all the insulation that brought.

On that, because of this Covid virus, I’m working from home as much as I can.
I put the heating on more.
Energy prices are through the roof here, and set the rise because of that prick Putin in eastern Europe.

That’s the downside of keto, I think…I’ve felt freezing recently, and i have triple glazing on my home.

#510

But I have to admit…being a bit chillier in winter is a lot better than being too hot in summer.

As long as I have appropriate clothes!

(Linda ) #511

Todays food was bacon, and then chuck roast done in the new oven it was moist, 20220127_000452 tender and medium rare

(Alec) #512

Carnivore dessert. Numnumnum….

The irony is that all our animals are carnivores (except the horses). But my wife refuses to eat anything that we have on our property, so I can’t raise any beef, lamb, pork or chickens to eat. I think the best I can do is swapsies, but it is difficult.

That is good to hear, but I have no illusions that I am a complete nube at carnivore, and I have a lot to learn about how to make it work for me long term. But one of the great attractions for me is the simplicity. That was what I liked about fasting, which I was very successful on a couple of years ago… the lines were clear: eating or fasting. Carnivore is not quite that simple, but the clarity on no carbs, no plants is very attractive to me.

Agreed and understand. Weight is not my only health marker, I have a few: BP, resting HR, blood sugar, VO2MAX, perceived mental health. But weight is, for me, a pretty good marker of overall health. When I lose weight all the other markers go in the right direction as well. That’s why I track it carefully. I do the other markers as well, but not as frequently.

Question for everyone: I think my biggest challenge is ensuring I eat enough. I was doing OMAD and carnivore, but I have come to the conclusion that this is dangerous for me, as I am not sure I will get enough in my one meal of the day. So I am going 2MAD. Question: is there an easy way without counting calories to know you are eating enough on carnivore?
Cheers
Alec

This thread is about carnivore rather than keto - and I have found that I am drastically warmer than I used to be on standard diet or even keto, despite having lost a considerable amount of fat.

My take on this is that fat is not really that effective as an insulator - it’s your metabolic rate that’s key.

It is cold at the moment - but if you feel so incredibly cold, it’s worth considering whether you’re eating enough. Perhaps you’ve accidentally reduced your intake too low because this way of eating is so satiating and inadvertently lowered your metabolic rate?

There’s a few threads which discuss reverse dieting - i.e. increasing your intake a little at a time, whilst ensuring you still maintain the same body composition - with the aim of resetting your metabolic rate to a higher value.

Most people fall into 2MAD. 1 meal is usually not enough for a person in their day. Some carnivores do fab on OMAD and I did it for a short time, a very short time  cause I was just not hungry but once my appetite settled into what it needed to be by following my body’s demands, it settled into 2MAD. I always make my first meal usually my big heavy hitter, as in eat a big old ribeye, or a rack of ribs, or a monster Tbone steak or hound down a big portion of chuck roast…that ‘sets me’ and my second meal later for dinner is usually a lighter fare attack, like some chicken wings, or nice cheeseburgers, or shrimp/other seafood or sometimes, I want another honking steak

Everyone at some point eats very little on this plan. It is normal progression when starting carnivore. But with time we change and our appetite tells us how to eat…again, most fall into 2MAD.

Your wife won’t eat what you produce on the farm? I am a farmer and we did crops for sale, hay, cattle, goats, about 400 chickens for egg sale production, hogs for sausage sales, we sure ate ‘all’ of our stuff on our farm LOL But yea, I sure wouldn’t be eating my horses HA Another thing is tho, as much as you enjoy gardening etc. maybe it is time to shift gears in a way. There are ornamental plants to grow, or flowers, we grew sunflowers of various kinds for sale and we had so much fun doing those acres of flowers. If something catches your attention, grow that instead of veg that sets and rots  Flowers can be given to all or just a roadside stand saying ‘FREE FLOWERS’ setting out bouquets in water for passerbys to pick up and enjoy. Or you can make bouquets and hit the local retirement home and just hit them with some beauty!
Everyone loves flowers, well, most! Oh so much ya can do instead of growing veg…wee…but nice thing with veg tho if you do have any soup kitchens or churches that feed others you can donate that, they will take it off your hands. Every year we would process a big hog and take that meat to the local church that runs a food shelter/meals cooked and they gladly accepted our donation. Any thing you produce can easily help another which is a nice thing. Luckily around here we can donate deer also that my hubby hunter would harvest…but I know alot of areas there are restrictions on donating wildlife but we are very rural, around here deer are accepted by most places.

second meal today will be probably some big cheeseburger patties with about 1/2 lb of bacon on the side…just got a hankering for that!

Carnivore on strong all!

Phew think I got through most of the posts… as I have said before its soooo hard to catch up on all these great posts if you miss a day… in fact sometimes I don’t miss a day and still find it hard to catch up lol.

So yesterday I had a bit of a lazy day. Got up after a not so great night did my stair runs and that was about it till my big date palm arrived and I had to put it in a pot and put it by my patio door where it was sheltered from the wind. I will replant it in the big planter another day. See how it gets on but it looks lovely.

Yesterday I ate a 3 egg cheese omlette, a bit of ham and 2 sirloin steaks cut from the sirloin block I bought at the Company Shop half price. I sliced it up 8 steaks from it and I think I got those slices just the right thickness for me. Ate a bit more cheese and 2 hrd boiled eggs before bed.

Another restless night but I went up early and gave myself plenty time to get some good hours in.
Stair runs done when I got up just before my alarm at 8am and then off to CrossFit for a very gassy workout. It was a ‘you go I go’ pairs and my daughter turned up so I did it with her.

Home and brunch was about 1.30pm or there abouts. I had 6 slices of ham with 2 fried eggs on top. Very nice too. A bit of cheese and 2 sirloins again for dinner. No doubt I will have 2 hard boiled eggs again before bed.

Back to work again tomorrow for 2 hours. It increases to 4 hours next week. They may have worked out by then where they can put me!

@Karen18 we are definitely on the same sleep pattern :joy:

@Alecmcq if you track for about a week, you can get really good at eyeballing what you’re eating, then you don’t have to track anymore. Especially if you’re eating mostly the same foods. Omad works great for me for about a week, 2 weeks max, then I always seem to need to switch it back. I have a monstrous appetite though. I could (and probably do) out-eat most people here. So it’s really hard to sustain omad. I have fallen into mostly tmad with the occasional third meal (like today) thrown in. I easily eat 2.5-3 lbs of meat a day and I’m a very average sized woman. But I’ve tracked enough times that I can look at something and tell you almost exactly to the ounce how much it weighs. I don’t currently track, but I randomly will for funsies :joy:

Day 29: meal one was lamb chuck chops and a tiny burger. Then some bone broth jello. Meal two was Denver steak and raw beef liver. Then I was hungry for that rare third meal of some burger patties. My daughter and I both have strep, she has zero appetite, I am not the same :joy:. Sleep last night: Supplements: cortisol support taken in early afternoon and evening, (total of 600 mg ashwagandha, 400 mg rhodiola rosea root extract, 200 mg l-theanine). 200 mg 5-htp and 400 mg magnesium glycinate taken at 9. In bed at 10:18, with earplugs, on back with prayer and deep breath. Because I have strep throat, I took a 3 hour nap yesterday late afternoon, so I knew I would struggle with sleep. It took me a very long time to fall asleep. Up at 1:18 to pee and was up for about 20 minutes. Went back to bed and tossed and turned a good bit until alarm went off at 5:10.

(Linda ) #520

But I seem to be the one that seems to do the gaining lol

(Daisy) #521

I’ve been through that too. I gained over 15 pounds on carnivore in 2020! And I was already overweight
