Cheryl's 90 Day Carnivore Challenge: Started on Nov 01 going through to Feb 29, 2020

#402

I got one at 14 turning 15 soon, in all scheme of things I am happy…cause she is like me LOL good or bad? ahhh, the fates need to decide that one

(Mark Nelson) #403

Well hello all you felow challenge folks (and hello to those that are just reading too

I started this challenge with two goals in m in mind.

  1. Lose weight after being “stalled” for about 18 months at 235 with lazy keto. I heard a term for this listening to “The Two Keto Dudes” podcast from 2017 I think that references the bodies comfortable weight without to much effort, but I don’t remember what that term was. It was some person’s name … Anyway…

  2. See what my eczema does based on some results I’ve seen from a keto Facebook group I’m a part of.

When I started , I started with a whole lot of fear.
How am I going to track progress?
What about ketone levels?
Glucose?
Should I track every bite?
…seemingly a hundred more questions of uncertainty. So here I am a bit over 30 days and after the first week or so I just gave in and kept it simple.

  1. Eat when my body says I’m hungry.
I’ve been mostly successful at this but I have over eaten twice. Both times did I just feel nauseated! The thought of any food made that feeling worse!
The take away at this point is my body is actually letting me know good info and I should listen.

  2. Forget the fear that I’m over eating! (See #1

  3. Don’t worry about scale, measurements and just complete the 90 days.

Anyway, after trying to complete this post earlier and pesky work getting in the way it feels disjointed but I’m not going to delete it as I want to form the habit of being involved here.

I feel great, my mood is charts!

I honestly haven’t decided if I’m going to do a 2 day fast or not as it’s been in my mind.

I have 1.5 lbs of ground beef with me in case
I don’t .

So far, only black coffee and some salt and no hunger

(Mark Nelson) #404

Decided not to fast after all.
1lb of GF/F ground beef for lunch! T-Bone on the grill for dinner.

I’m also finding I’m eating my meat more raw than before. Medium rare was my preference before but now I’m leaning more and more toward rare.

#405

Woo hoo! I love sleeping.

Last night we had fish farmed Atlantic salmon for dinner. I had a table spoon of a few baked vegetables that I had cooked for my wife the night before (I do like day old cold baked vegetables).

:joy: the auto correct made that I do like day old cold baked vegans. I must be ranting too much about veganism.

I know @Fangs is (not) a big fan of resistant starch theory and resists it most wholeheartedly. But I tried the vegetables because I had softened them by steaming them in pickle juice before rolling them in olive oil and pink salt. I just realised I made vegan food. There were pumpkin, carrot, parsnip, yellow peppers and mushrooms. And typing that I just realised none of it was vegetables, they are roots, fruit and fungi. Anyhow, my wife and I agreed it was the worst baked vegetables I had ever made her.

This relates to sleep, as after this meal, I had really weird dreams, like David Lynch was Twin Peaking in my brain, so weird that I have to phone someone today to check in on them. I dreamt about an old boss giving me a cutthroat shave. It was a lot weirder than that, and harked to a theme that he may not be well. So I’ll call him today.

There are hypotheses that eating cheese at night can create different dream experiences.

My fasted blood glucose this morning was 5.7mmol/l and fasted blood ketones were 0.3mmol/l. The blood glucose is slightly higher than my normal 5.0 to 5.2. I wonder if it’s a direct factor of the meal, or the slightly stressful near nightmare.

It will be a bacon and egg omelette fasting break at lunch time. A standard morning with a coffee start. Keeping my coffee separated from breakfast. Breakfast drink is water.

#406

LOL
those do sound a bit scary HAHA

#407

It’s 4:45pm. Time for breakfast. Looks like an OMAD day today. Have been listening to a registered dietician talk about choline.

(Ellen ) #408

Ahh yes, I remember twin peaks and David Lynch. Must have been a weird dream @FrankoBear. I had another pretty good night. Last meal was a little later with a bit of sour cream on my beef tenderloin. My stomach was a little swollen before bed…maybe I do have an issue with dairy. Today I’m up a pound. Think I’ll cut out dairy for a day or 2 to see if I come back down. I expect a cheese omelet will be breakfast in a couple of hours.

#409

OK Ely, what is wrong with that sentence you just wrote! HAHA

cut out cheese…having a cheese omelet LOL

Yea dairy is weird for many. But if you feel bad, cut it and experiment. Later if you reintroduce it a bit and just feel a tad swollen and it is not that dramatic to you personally, you might keep that food in every once in a while. Only you can make that personal decision. Sometimes that little bit of sour cream desired on your tenderloin makes you happy, enough to not care about a very small effect----but again, personal choice on this one. Experimenting on yourself is the best way to go on it.

yesterday food was simple

some chuck roast. yum
maybe a lb?

chicken breast sautéed in grass fed salted butter
(no didn’t buy unsalted just yet, will get it when I hit the store)

2 chunks cheddar
few slices salami

Salt. didn’t salt anything but from what I ate above I know I got salt in my day.

do I miss it, heck yea I do. I have to say I am not finding my meats taste better ‘yet’ without salt LOL

I am seriously thinking of throwing some salt on my ribeye in a while when I cook it.

I don’t feel different truly. I can’t say a day would make a difference either. Hmmm. I don’t know, up in the air on this one in a way. I see many use salt and are doing fine and evidence saying salting up is ok, then I got the other line in saying we get enough from our food, do we need more truly? Shrugging shoulders on it all LOL

oh well, will see where I land on it all later

(Ellen ) #411

You’re right. Can’t believe I said that. I just woke up. I can’t give up cheddar. I’ll cut down on my cheese in the omelet. But no sour cream! On my second coffee. Hope I don’t have a brain freeze day ahead. Thanks @Fangs

(Mark Nelson) #412

I’m envious about dreaming. I rarely remember any dreams. Haven’t noticed a change over the last 40 days either.

Speaking of cheese, I keep buying the stuff and I need to step away from it again! ARGHH

Food check in for yesterday.
1/2 lb ground beef
lots of black coffee
4 oz of one of the GF/F T-bone steaks I cooked for lunch today.
3 - 4 oz of plain pork rinds, 2 oz dipped in melted gruyere cheese and 2 oz dipped in melted GF butter
1 diet Dr. Pepper
lots of water

Just wasn’t hungry for more.

On another note, I’m leaning more and more towards getting some sort of actual exertive exercise. Besides walking 30 min a day on and off for a few weeks at a time, I’ve never in my life consistently exercised with weights or other gym type exercise. This includes the last few years going from 340lbs down to 235 with general Keto.

Yet here I am finding myself more and more wanting to move and groove.

Huh.

Now to get over the fears of starting

#413

Same here. My hubby tells me all the times of his dreams and how vivid. I just do not experience that. Maybe 2 times a year I wake up truly remembering a dream and ‘it really’ happened feeling. huh.

good menu

now that diet soda, can we chat about it HAHA

hey I get keeping it in for a while. When I changed into carnivore it took me a good bit to drop my diet pepsi….and if I do a rum drink, I will still use a diet caffeine free pepsi to mix it. So extreme light use of soda for me. You know it irks me to buy it tho……it got more pricey lately  and it truly is junky…LOL just a small rant on it.

(Ellen ) #414

I found a rack of Prime Rib on sale yesterday. Originally $61 reduced to $34. Scooped that up quickly!

(Mark Nelson) #415

I knew that would catch some attention

The reality is that I may have 3 of them a month at the most.

The vast majority of my fluid intake is coffee, about 60oz of plain water , 8 to 12 oz of water with 2 TBSP of apple cider vinegar and 24 to 48 oz of seltzer water. I’m finding myself more and more craving carbonated water.

I wonder if it’s a… Wait for it… Carb craving!!! Rimshot

It’s okay , I groaned out loud as I typed it.

#416

HA HA

I get it. It is hard to dump it all. I did diet soda a few times cause at some point I was like, omg, giving it all up? I had to wrap my head around it but the funny thing is the more you change eating this way, you will try your diet soda and think…omg the chemical fake taste is just so wrong, just so very wrong. I think a lot of us just dump it down the line cause it just starts to taste crappy.

3 is cool…you are fine!!

(Susan) #417

Hehehehe =). They get better in their 20’s --mine are 19,21,23,25 and 28 (and they do improve with age!!).

(Edith) #418

I know they do. I actually have two older ones, 25 and 26. They sure do get better. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

(Daisy) #419

So I mentioned I ate terribly on Saturday. All day yesterday (Monday) I had mild to severe pain in my lower stomach. I did some research on it last night and it sounded very much like ileum pain, ie crohns/colitis/etc. I thought it strange that something I ate Saturday would affect me 2 days later, but if that were the case, it would make sense. My dr previously suspected Crohns when I was having all my stomach trouble, but the tests couldn’t confirm it. When I stopped eating crap, all the pain went away. So anyway, this was a good reminder that my body is rejecting the crap at a more severe level and it’s not just an evening of pain, but potentially several days when I screw up.

Moral of the story: don’t screw up.

#420

Carnivore Rocks!!! heehee….yes it does!

Lost another 1/2 lb. Every time I see down I am happy. I love seeing the body composition change to leaner and meaner! ZC sure gives us that in aces!

food yesterday was

1 lb. ribeye. I got a great one, so tender. Yum

6 link sausage
8 jumbo shrimp in old bay seasoned butter
2 chunks cheddar

Shopping today with my daughter later. She has to get Xmas presents for some friends so at that time I will hit the grocery and shop meat/seafood sales. Bring home something delish for me.

Hmm, what do I want today? Will be interesting to see how I roll thru eating today. Nothing planned, meat/seafood counter will decide for me later

(Daisy) #421

Ok I maybe need to start posting my meals again for accountability.
Yesterday was:
Bone broth
About 10 oz of lean steak with added beef fat
Salmon and a decent size pork rib for dinner and a couple spoons of liver pate

I’m going to try reducing my salt today. I cooked my chuck steak for lunch with no salt and will just salt to taste when I eat it this morning. My office Christmas party is today, but I have no idea what they’re serving, so I wanted to be prepared.
