Folks, I tried White Oaks Grassfed Paleo ground beef. It’s such a great way to get organ meats into one’s diet. Here is a description:
This is a delicious blend of Ground Chuck and Brisket (40%), Beef Liver (20%), Beef Heart (20%), Beef Spleen (10%), Beef Kidney (10%). A customer favorite, our Paleo ground beef makes a delicious burger! Paleo ground beef is packed with flavor, making it an excellent choice for a variety of meals. This is a great way to get the nutritional benefits of organ meat, while still enjoying the great taste of White Oak Pastures grassfed beef. https://www.whiteoakpastures.com/beef/paleo-ground-beef.asp
I’ll have to be careful at that website. I could $pend all day there, lol.
1 lb. ribeye steak
1 and 1/2 chicken breast sautéed in gf butter
tin of sardines
It seems, after I eat my steak, my appetite diminishes. I just can’t do another steak. I ate this all in one sitting I just got so full I couldn’t do more beef and went for lilghter food to fill me up. I was thinking another steak, the heavy of it I could not handle. I eat around 2-3 pm mostly. Usually 1 big time per day but can definitely do 2 meals if wanted easily.
So doing well, feel wonderful, my bloaty is leaving cause I am watching salt intake more. All of it still heading in great direction for me.
oh edited to say lost another lb. to a new low. body showing good ‘zc leaner and meaner’ composition. Take all I can get at all times on any of this…scale and body LOL
@VirginiaEdie Well…the blend DOES have liver in it and I could taste it but it was faint enough that mixed with other things it wouldn’t be noticed. Even eaten by itself though, I thought the blend tasted good. Maybe it’s because I’ve been eating liver on this PaleoMedicina carnivore diet?
yesterday did start with near a lb. of ribeye steak.
after that I just nibbled thru the day. I was just not hungry but wanted a little so I ate:
6 link sausage
1/2 lb. cheeseburger patty
a lot of people would say ‘that is a nibble’ after that big steak…yea it is for me Cause a lot of days I eat a lot more than that!
Beauty of carnivore. Eat eat and eat all the heck you want in the animal kingdom any and all times you want. When more adapted you just don’t want as much…on certain days…til that one day ya flip and want to eat the whole animal! Which I will on that day
One thing I love is no restrictions ever on my meals. Restriction in variety of foods…sure…any restrictions in how much I eat on a daily basis any time I want…NEVER. And that is one part I am over the top about on carnivore. You must eat to gain health…who knew right? Carnivores know!!
hope all are doing well. I am in good carnivore shape here. Hope benefits are coming to everyone!!
Also found a fav new ‘snack’ although it fills me up pretty quick, lol. US Wellness Meats has Pemmican that is delicious. It comes in pails and in little sticks. I bought some of the sticks for ‘emergency 2:1’ meals and am now addicted, heh. I like to eat them right out of the freezer. Super easy, fast, healthy and tasty all in one ‘snack’.
I hear you Cheryl. Festive season should maybe also include a fastive season? There seems to be quite a bit of interest in the main stream about the benefits of intermittent eating, like: not eating until at least 4 hours after waking, and stop eating 4 hours before sleep. Etc… and all the variations to follow the general principle of not be eating all the time.
This year I organised a continuous glucose monitor via the Abbott company with the plan to wear it through December, sort of part ‘watchdog’ part bloodhound, to see what one bite of tempting or craved foods would do to me. But the surf has been too good.
The CGM is still in the box. I might gift it to myself for Christmas (it would be a judgement loaded gift to give to anyone else), and after gift unwrapping and the family food zombies head back to the feast table for more stuffing, I can find a quiet nook and read the CGM instruction pamphlet.
I had a mango smoothie the other day but I placed it between two fully exhausting bouts of physical activity. The nett result was that I’ve kept calm and Ketoed on.
Yesterday ate smoked salmon and cheese omelette (approx 5g foraged seaweed for art’s sake on top) with coffee, then 6 hours later Scotch fillet steak and two fried eggs. This morning, black coffee, 4 fried eggs and bacon with blue cheese. Yes, some fancy stuff due to fancy festive season and having trained visitors to bring smoked salmon, or platter cheese instead of chocolates, if they feel the need to bring food to our house.
What I love about this thread is that we are all imperfect.
Stumbles, cravings, journaling, wins, perceived calamity, and then back to it again, the pursuit of health. This is a healthy pursuit of health, methinks.
My wife is more in the vegetarian vegan yoga world and she showed me the online blog of a young lady yoga world influencer with 326, 000 followers. It stemmed from the influencer’s parents had been in my wife’s yin yoga class that evening and dropped their daughter’s name in conversation. So she looks great. Obviously flexible, and possibly metabolically so as well. So she encourages a plant based cruelty free dietary approach to her followers. It all looks so beautiful. So I wondered out loud, if she sticks to it? The practice what you preach ethos. And we looked again at the social media influencing and projection of this young person, this time with the consideration of human fallibility in mind. Of course we don’t know. And I’d hope this young lady is truly an angel and perfect.
To balance the social media voyeurism we also looked at Tara Couture (nutritionist) at Slow Down Farmstead
Tara has 26,000 followers. But I find she is so candid about health and nutrition. My bias may be showing.
It made me think the yoga angel influencer needed to supplement her social media feed with some imperfection (if she has any).
And that’s what makes this thread perfectly human. Keep calm, imperfect on.
6 link sausage
thin slices of sirloin steak to graze on
6 lobster claws with butter
10 oz ribeye steak
I had about 12 shrimp to eat and I couldn’t do it. I ate 1 and said no more. I just couldn’t eat another bite. And that is why I love this plan. I ate yesterday just as I needed to the very last full bite I could handle.
I hit a sale on lobster claw packages. They were ok in that they were precooked and needed just a reheat but they were a bit dense and kinda overly chewy cause I of course walked away and let them overcook a bit too much then LOL oh well, I enjoyed the heck out of them alway. Anything dipped in my Kerrygold butter is a good thing
Last night I had a Cattleman’s steak. It was 21 day dry aged grass fed. I asked the butcher about the cut. It’s the scotch fillet but twice as thick because half the length of a rib is still left on. I need to look at a cow map to see which muscle it is. It was about 450g of beef. Others might call it a tomahawk steak or a ribeye?
The condiments accompaniment was pink salt.
Usually I would sear it in a hot pan on both sides then put it in the oven to bake for 25min at 180C.
Last night I seared it and then transferred it to a second pan with melted butter on low heat and slow fried it for 20 minutes each side. It turned out medium rare and was delicious. I had had a physically active day with a bigger swell hitting the coast and more paddling and breath holding to be done in the big surf. The steak hit the spot plus 9 hours sleep.
@FrankoBear, 9 hours of sleep sounded so good I decided to have a carnivore day yesterday. For dinner I ate 16oz rib eye (last thing I ate). My sleep turned out to be one of the worst nights in 7 months when I started keto. Tossing and turning with maybe 2hrs sleep. Is this common for a new carnivore. Don’t think I can power on with no sleep. I’ve been in a stall weight wise. Same weight for probably 8 weeks. I hoped this was my answer. I love, love rib eye.
I had a mini whoosh on the scale. Dropped a big 1.5 lbs. Nicer than my 1/2 lb here and there but they add up but nice to see that big drop and I know my body is loving this way of eating. Has been for years, but dropping my Dirty Carni ways is helping me so much. One can get a little lax, I am focusing on cleaning it up and body is responding so well. Plus dropping all alcohol is great for me. I don’t want it anymore like I did but in summer time, ohhh, I love my nice drink when out at the pool.
Tighter I hold carnivore the more my body is responding and doing what it must to drop some excess baggage and I eat like a crazy person with great food and never starve…I mean what is better than this? nothing LOL
experiment on me today. no added salt at all.
food yesterday was
2 chicken breast sautéed in grass fed butter
12 oz bone in ribeye steak
hitting store today to buy unsalted kerrygold
hit as many good meat and seafood sales I can find
I am thriving so far on Cheryl’s challenge!
I hope everyone else is doing well and getting great results.
You are all amazing! Well done. I will be happy when the pre-Holiday and Christmas hooplah shin digs are over. These have been bigger obstacles than I could have imagined. To say dirty-carnivore is an understatement. It is what it is right now and I will get better traction after the frivolities are over.
People are well meaning and because they don’t understand “just meat” they make assumptions and go out of their way (culinary gymnastics) to make special things for me. Bless their hearts but making a gluten free meal is not carnivore. Alas, I eat a bit of this and that just to appease. I’ll need to educate my friends better for 2020 and hopefully when my body changes are evident they will pay better attention. Sighhh…
I think it happens in adaptation phases for both Keto and carnivore for a subset of people.
The key ingredient to my day was being tumbled in the ocean, sometimes wondering if I had met my breath hold or paddling limit for 90 minutes. It was wild. The edge of panic drives physical excursions I wasn’t sure I still had in me. Then some meditation floating in a warm, sunny, placid lagoon. Then an hour of water carrying up and down a hill. Then the steak. Finally the sleep. Only thought in my head was no thought.
The combination of physical activity and fat and meat dropped me in a deep, calm pool of nothingness.
Wow, that sounds great. Forgot you are in a warm climate. I read about your wonderful day. I did do 4miles in 60 minutes on the treadmill…nothing compared to your activity but I thought that would cause some kind of fatigue last night. I think maybe I at too late. Gonna try again today. I’m exhausted so I can’t imagine not sleeping tonight and I won’t eat so late (8-9pm). Thanks
yea eat a bit early. big food on tummy later makes one more icky when trying to sleep.
I don’t know what you eat but 1 day on carnivore just to try it, yea it is adaption time. Even from a very very low carb keto type plan into carnivore people adapt still and sleep can be effected for sure.
