Carnivores March into March :)

Finally picked up my dance partner friend from the hospital. It was cancelled last night as the hospital didn’t have the meds for him to go home with. He’s now resting in his place, I made him a cuppa and made sure he was sitting down before i left. He thought he was fine, as he usually does and decided to bend down to pick up his mail which I did think I should have picked up as I stepped over it but thought I had time to offload his shopping first before he followed me in… he had been gassing to one of his neighbours but no he got to it first. Well that bending down did him in and he started huffing and puffing so I left him with order to have the cuppa and then go lay down for a sleep! Hopefully he will pay heed.

Came back via lidl as I knew there were some new flowers on sale but my local didn’t have much of a selection as it is a smaller store so I popped to another one in another local town and oooops so dangerous. Just cleared the plants out of the kitchen into the garden and now I have a hall full

Also bought a packet of topside beef x 5 slices and had to start eating them on the way home as i was well passed brunch time. Must have been about 2.45pm! They were nice and I really enjoyed them. By passed the cheese which I thought I did really well doing as I have to say, if I have a craving for anything it is cheese, but I have done well… this is now about day 3 of no cheese. Picked up some buffalo chicken wings for later and I have 5 chicken thighs cooked in the slow cooker this morning. Just couldn’t quite wait to get home to start eating lol.

Stair runs done this morning and then a full on CV workout out CrossFit. 30 min EMOM (every minute on the minute) worked out at 6 rounds including 1 min rest of burpees, cal bike, cal row, cal ski erg or air bike whichever one got to first … and I was pretty quick getting to the ski erg lol as I hate the air bike… I did do a couple of rounds on it but that was plenty enough for me lol.

Still managed to stay on the podium for the Open Games and still at top for my category. One more wod to do on Saturday so still time to :skier::skier::skier: :rofl::rofl:

Not doing too bad for an old biddy stroke survivor!!! Proud moment lol. I am enjoying it while I can hahaha

#143

Thanks so much :grinning: and power to you for doing Cross Fit. It sounds intense.

I did lower body with my trainer over FaceTime at sparrow fart this morning. One round HIIT (how much do I hate jump squats and lunges? A LOT) 2 rounds with a booty band and a round of abs. Tomorrow I am going to HURT

(Robin) #144

Hope your friend is ok.

(Karen) #145

He bounces back everytime he’s poorly and he’s been poorly a lot over the past 10 years. Well ever since i have known him he has had med issues. He goes downhill and bounces straight back up again but just recently he hasn’t been bouncing back for long before he’s been knocked back down. He was told … his heart is strong, they don’t know whats the problem, oh he’s got angina, oh he’s not got angina, oh he had stable angina but now its unstable??? Heavens iys no wonder he gets fed up with it all anyway now has had a stent put in and had all his meds changed. We will see how he gets on! Hopefully we will be dancing again very soon.

#146

Staying on plan. Coffees no cream is a change. Beef bone broth in half hour lunch break. Otherwise OMAD today with 3 baked beef ribs for dinner.

#147

Snugglepie is here again.

And I just wanted to show this:

Tiiiny fried beef heart  7 minutes in a pan, I actually forgot about it for a while but it got a nice color… I am very pleased with it!
It’s almost all mine as it’s tiny and SO got pizza and he was so happy with it. I don’t even have my normal meat now, I need this.

I think I like beef organs very much. The liver had a very intense “cow flavor”, it’s actually like the smell of a cow, more milk than stable… I felt that near cows at the neighbours when I was a kid. It’s strange a bit as it’s not a flavor but a smell but I get it from eating liver… Oh well, if it doesn’t make sense, nevermind. Even with that, I liked the beef liver as I already wrote back then. But I would prefer it a tad less overpowering  Only the farm liver had it (in huge amounts at that), not the store-bought one.
The heart has the same but it’s subtle, yay!
The two aren’t really comparable though as I fried the liver in tallow and the heart in lard… I had a little tallow and it seemed logical. But I will keep that for scrambled eggs as they were good like that.

17:20, still satiated. Yesterday became TMAD in the end, 300 kcal for my 2nd dinner at 11pm. Quark, greek yogurt and a sponge cake muffin. I was very careful not to eat too fatty stuff. Even this too dry, not sour enough quark is good for something. I just needed a tiny thing to get me satiated, I wasn’t hungry. But not being satiated is very annoying to me. I lives the vast majority of my life being satiated, I need that.

I drink WAY too many coffees, each of them with yolk and cream (so not pure fasts, yeah, sue me but rather cure me). ONE yolk and about 16ml cream in total so I am impressed and I never used a lot (maybe yolks… 1-2 yolks per coffee, I did that).

(Karen) #148

Well I ate 2 of the chicken thigh, and there are 4 left in the slow cook pot. Thought there were 5 altogether but no there were 6 yay. Heated the buffalo chicken wings for dinner just to change up the chicken taste. They were quite nice but feel a bit icky now.

Back to beef tomorrow!

#149

I didn’t report my meal yet.

I obviously ate the beef heart (with sponge cakes) but I had a soup first (pork chuck soup is the best ~ this far but I like pork chuck the best so it may be my ultimate great soup), with 4 poached eggs (I was a bit sad I didn’t use more… but I never felt this after 4 simple eggs in the same way) and still with some meat in it, yay. Okay, it deserves more words. It was awesome. It reminded me very very very much of some tarragon ragou soup I used to ate. It felt sour and very tarragon-y. I didn’t put any in it. Or any sour stuff. It felt normal before I added the eggs. Oh well, my mind can do things like this.

And I had some quark and greek yogurt with dill and sponge cakes too.

Only 3 courses, yay! One day I will learn how to reduce it to 2! I think I like eggs more now and can raise the numbers per meal, I don’t get bored of them so easily.

I had more coffees with cream and yolk.

And I was STUFFED. I didn’t even eat all the soup so it had no huge volume. Okay. So carnivore satiation kicked in.
I guesstimate 1200 kcal for today’s lunch at 6pm (I wasn’t hungry but I don’t like to wait longer, it never feels good when I only ate late). 64% fat. So… A bit low protein but it seems I can get away with it. I eat way more than enough protein for my body, I worried about my satiation where going below 120g without a ton of fat is tricky.
But I am very satiated even hours later. Oh well. It’s great, I won’t keep at it anyway  I will have a big meal or TMAD day soon.

So I have nice chill days eating wise, it’s so cool I think over my ideas about being relaxed in the weekend… Not on Saturday. Alvaro cooks in Sunday so… We will see. But I am not into ruining this when I am not too bored of meat. It works now so why break it. I got out some more pork chuck from the freezer and will make a traditional holiday dish. IDK why, it’s simple. Like frikadeller but even simpler. Oh well. So it’s just like frikadeller but made in the oven and it’s one single block. Filled with boiled eggs. My kind of dish.
I have maybe 1.5 pound of meat, too tiny to roast it and anyway, 1 day may be not a long enough break for me, who knows? Variety is nice. So it’s frikadeller but it would be 3 batches in my pan, I don’t want to work that much. It’s simpler to just put it into the oven even with eggs in them, it’s not complicated. I need to boil some eggs tomorrow anyway.
And I always wanted to do that stuff, I just forgot.

And Alvaro likes the idea over the scrambled eggs with dry susage slices (he likes that. I only likes it with soft sausages. I can eat it but too flavorful, agressive if it makes sense. I love very flavorful dry sausages on my eggs just not fried) and it’s lovely as I need to make only ONE main dish for us both! And we won’t even eat it all at once.

So life is nice here eating wise.

Pretty wings, @Karen18 (I always like to see your plants too. I am looking forward to my annual pansy planting, I choose 3 color variations and it’s hard as there are zillions)!
I always liked the look of those wings. I would even taste them. I just wouldn’t make them, wings are so tiny (and still more expensive than the parts more beloved by me). Maybe you can get them without the end part that is only good for my cats? I like legs except my usual problems with chicken. So I stick to my turkey wings but now I start to miss turkey legs, well only one part, they are huge. Couldn’t fit my oven  HOW BIG are those birds, seriously? I actually saw a few turkeys in my life but their parts are always astonishing. Maybe those are bigger turkeys…? Or they aren’t half feathers like many other birds?
I never saw a cleaned full turkey though, we don’t have those here. At least not where I go.

Today’s eats: Parmesan chicken wings, sirloin bites, bone broth jello and a yogurt (that I apparently forgot to photo). I only have one more of the fat free yogurts I had gotten on sale. Then I get to eat my delicious Fage yogurts. Then I’m cutting it back out of my diet. It just doesn’t make me feel optimal. Every time I try to add it back, it never goes well. Which makes me sad because I do love yogurt. I’ve been super low energy today. Normally during the work day I do about 50-75 push-ups and about 30-50 jump squats. I couldn’t muster the energy today to do any at all. My daughter and I took a few laps around the park trail, but I barely had the energy for that. I definitely think in April I’m going to return to mostly beef/lamb. Maybe I’ll plan a looser carnivore meal or day once a week or something. That will give me more flexibility while still feeling more optimal. We shall see how it goes.

(Robin) #151

I tried yogurt when I first began keto. It either didn’t sit well, or I wanted 20 of them. Aside from being on sale, any reason you do fat free as opposed to full fat? Just curious.

(Daisy) #152

Yeah it was just on sale :joy:. The fage I have is 2% and 5% fat. It’s my favorite

(Linda ) #153

I got one tonight for hubby from Walmart it was 10 pc fat made from whole milk and cream.

Todays food was the sirloin steak 2nd meal I made some pmsf bread buns and made burgersScreenshot_20220311-012339_Gallery

Is there really an answer as to why we never learn???

I was hungry this morning when I woke up, I could feel the void and its a rare feeling! I got up and did my stair runs, got interrupted once or twice with the phone and then I thought I need to iron some work shirts so quickly got them out of the cupboard and took them downstairs straight away because I know I will forget to do them if I didn’t do that immediately. (They are now hanging on the door handle in kitchen waiting for me to get motivated to iron them and I hate ironing) ANYWAY those stair runs were so hard this morning and I had to keep telling myself to plod on!

CHICKEN !!! Every time … and I know I need more than just chicken to fuel my exercise regime so why did I just eat chicken and nothing else yesterday??? Arrrghh… fortunately I hadn’t booked onto a CrossFit class this morning as I am saving myself for tomorrow’s Open Games wod … there’s no way I would have got through it lol. I didn’t want to go today just in case I get an injury or tweek my back/neck which I tend to do frequently with the barbells especially anything overhead and today they are doing snatch and overhead squats so it was a wise decision. Nice rest day for me today and maybe get all the lidl plants out into containers :thinking::slightly_smiling_face:

I have taken out of the freezer what i thought was a pack of 2 rump steaks and just looked to see if they were rump or sirloin and they are neither lol they’re a pack of 4 lamb chops ! I’ll take that :slightly_smiling_face: also got out a ribeye steak so that will all do very nicely for my dinner later.

I will eat the chicken for brunch and may do some scrambly eggs with it. Decisions on what to eat are never hard these days :grin:

#155

I know that feeling well with chicken - I enjoy eating it, but it doesn’t hold me over as well as ruminant meat.

#156

Alot of mom’s estate handling issues which are fine but I am hitting anger and sadness and a combo  just not me

today is chicken and pork chops

done deal.

Soldier on rock solid in ZC, it will never fail us!

#157

I can’t imagine eating less than 10% fat yogurt  (They are the things tend to go on sale here, it seems…? But I never really focused on mostly water items. Greek yogurt is actually something. More sugar than protein so inferior thing but still not some mostly pointless sugary water to me as all the other yogurts.) Actually, I am no yogurt gal (I only bought a tiny kefir in every 1-5 years since ages. I love sour even if it’s a watery sugary little nothing), I am into sour cream but that’s too fatty for me (okay, I just eat less of it) and the last one (and my old fav!) wasn’t creamy enough, it was too dense… I have a new fav now, the one that is the same brand as the milk that resembles the best raw home milk I ever drank (not quite that, obviously but close. HOW it doesn’t have UHT flavor I have no idea). Not like I usually drink milk, I mean, we buy milk once a month, Alvaro uses most and I try and nope. But the brand is nice and I love the sour cream.
But now I have greek yogurt and I have no idea what I will do with it. It’s super sour, great for my not sour enough dry quark but the latter will run out earlier… I just don’t fancy it as a dessert, the yogurt, I mean. What do people do with yogurt I wonder… Maybe I can put it on scrambled eggs like sour cream… Or into soups or IDK.

I made the “Stefánia” almost-frikadeller! With mixed results. Alvaro loved it. I was more critical. But it’s basically pretty good

It was horribly unsalted to me (perfect for Alv). It’s annoying, I need to go back to normal somehow, clearly with eating more salt. Just salt my food 3 times don’t seem to cut it. The food becomes fine but I will dislike the next normally salted dish again. And it’s a very bad feeling to take a bit and it lacks a lot of salt so it’s inedible…

It was a tad much work, I will just mix the eggs in next time. Yeah, it’s prettier but I don’t need that and it breaks apart and the bites aren’t uniform. And putting the sticky meat stuff around the 5 eggs took time. Not a big deal but it’s too much if I don’t gain anything from it. But I wanted to do it properly the first time so it’s fine for now.

I think it needs way more paprika even though I used what all recipes said. It’s not red enough. Maybe this dish usually isn’t but I started this as a big frikadeller and I put more into my frikadellers… And no garlic while I remembered Mom always made this really garlick-y and I liked that… So nostalgically I felt it a tiny fail. While Alvaro enjoyed his. Sigh. But it’s good, sure just these old memories interfered. Traditionally it has an onion in it too but I really don’t think it’s important. I put spices into it and they contained a tiny onion powder anyway…
And I just don’t understand why the original recipe and the normal Hungarian frikadeller recipe use buns soaked in milk. It doesn’t do it any better. Maybe a wee bit cheaper but I am not even sure about that… Very unnecessary but I know that since ages.
Mine just had meat, eggs, spices and it was like the original. Minus the garlic. Oh the traditional has breadcrumbs outside…? No idea why. It gets roasted just fine, it’s meat. I don’t think Mom used that. Mom actually had many recipes cooler than the common one. She made super eggy, super good pancakes, I just went a bit further with skipping the flour and milk altogether. I saw zillion pancakes with almost no eggs in it. It’s an important ingredient, yes but it’s used extremely sparingly. People make many pancakes from 1 egg. Mom probably made a few, or that was me after I made them a bit eggier as a teen…? Now I am at 1.25 but these are all very very thin pancakes.
Why am I talking about pancakes? It’s possible I miss them as I kept eating them sweet lately and it was better to just stop. So I haven’t eaten pancakes since too long. I liked them with head cheese but I decided the head cheeses I can buy aren’t good enough, I don’t like cheesy ones, I got bored with sour cream savory ones so my pancakes started to trigger xylitol (we don’t have anything else) and I resist. So no pancakes for me except on emergency off days when I either eat that or something totally carby or starve because eggs and meat are impossible to eat. It seems I can;'t get bored of them now, not even one group let alone two so I am pretty safe at the moment. But I miss my pancakes a little, maybe. But if I don’t NEED them, it’s not justified to eat them.

Did I say it was a very fatty pork chuck? It was and some fat escaped the loaf. I will cut off the fat next time and use it for scrambled eggs or something. I don’t think thigh is fatty enough… But maybe it would work, filled with fatty dry sausage… That’s totally a thing here, not for this dish but for various smoked meat products. Smoked sausage filled smoked pork. As if the chuck fattiness wouldn’t be enough but it is not for everyone and sausage is a super beloved item. I guess you don’t have everything in sausage flavor there, it’s a pork country thing…? Cheese spread with sausage, cheese with sausage, we have them all. If something that comes in many savory flavors doesn’t have sausage flavor, it should have paprika flavor at least. It may be bacon flavor for you there… Or brisket flavor, I got such chips from Australia… We have some bacon flavored stuff but those are probably Western ones… I like bacon flavor too. Artificial bacon flavor is good. Food industry can’t do most flavors well artificially but they can do bacon. Sometimes bacon is a lie, yep.

Look at all the fat in my chuck! Perfect for a roast. Less perfect for today’s meal, apparently  But only a bit too fatty, I needed most of it.

I lasted pretty long with my 1200 kcal OMAD dinner but when I got a tiny hunger at lunchtime, I didn’t want to wait. I had my dish to try out anyway (it’s so simple and it’s a fancy holiday thing! Mom only made it at Christmas and Easter. I liked it as it was PORK. why she almost never made pork I don’t know. maybe she strongly preferred chicken. I don’t.).
So I ate and got perfectly satiated with not the foggies idea idea how many calories  It was a nice meal and probably perfect for TMAD.

Carni day #5 and everything seems right. Only tomorrow looks lowish-meat this far but I have different things (emergency tuna, for example. the salmon spread is boring now) and I will buy pork in the morning as I run out of it all. Yes, pork sounds fine. I just don’t want a big roast yet.

@Karen18, IDK why you didn’t learn yet but I think we all did the same. I even have a paper about being intelligent (I think) but it doesn’t help  Okay, I learned it regarding chicken but sometimes we are just forget things or getting hopeful…
I know I am hungry after 1kg chicken so I don’t even try to use it as food if it’s alone. But turkey and pork and eggs seem to work. I need more experiments. I would gladly experiment with turkey in the near future, actually… Lovely just not as substantial. My current hypothesis is that all birds are like this to me. Well, all the normal birds here. I am curious about some red bird meat like emu… Maybe that’s different. Hungary has some emu farms… None nearby but when we visit my aunt, there is one not too far… I planned to get some emu liver last year but we need to keep it cold for many hours and we don’t have such boxes yet. Maybe this year.

IDK why your luxurious food doesn’t bother me  Financial things easily trigger me lately but that’s true I basically eat what I want and I only need to modify/train my own wants a weee bit… And anyway, if I really wanted something fancy, I could eat it once. I just don’t feel it’s worth it now. And well, I have beef in my freezer. It’s already so very recklessly luxurious that I should be content for a long time (and I bought cheap organs and some of the cheapest cuts. but I like those and always wanted to try brisket!).

But I really will eat my shrimps or prawns already, maybe next week  I just put the little packet away and forgot or when I saw I had something else and didn’t fancy it nearly as much as more pork… I am a pork and egg maniac I know. They seem completely impossible to bored of at the moment.
But it’s 90g shrimps or prawns (no idea about the difference, saw pics but forgot those and it’s the same to me) per person so I need to use it well… Still didn’t decide about my dish. Alvaro will put it into rice along with veggies, all fried but the rice. I will use eggs. And next time a soup.

I shouldn’t just come and chill with a full stomach, I never stop.

(Karen) #158

@Septimius it doesn’t seem to hold me at all  I really only got chicken out the past couple of days or so because I have quite a bit in the freezer. I can’t resist picking up any meat that’s reduced which all my freezered chicken is ! Cheap skate me lol  so maybe this serves me right or maybe I should only get one pack out every one or two weeks so that I am not eating it day in day out for a week!

@Fangs oh dear that has to be the toughest part … all the sorting things out. You won’t start feeling like you again until its all resolved and unfortunately that takes such a while. Until its all sorted it will no doubt be a roller coaster ride for you. Good to keep your strength up though, through your fuel, as that will also keep your mental strength together  :pray:

@Shinita my luxurious meats are all generally reduced in price. I know a bargain when I see one lol :laughing:

Well I had brunch about 1.30pm and I had 3 scrambly eggs and the 2 last chicken thighs, they were quite big and although they felt filling at the time a bit of hunger raised its head about 4pm. The scrambled eggs were very tasty and paired up nicely with the chick.

I got as far as bringing the plants into the kitchen … bit like a conveyor belt, one lot through and out the back then another lot through hahaha they were a bit desperate for some water so I gave them a drink.

Had to tie up the flippin date palm again … maybe it just needs more water to keep it solid, it got quite a watering after getting trussed up like a chicken with my stockings  then it started raining, its been forecast but just didn’t seem to be in my region … a couple of spits and that was that but it has been coming down for the last couple of hours.

So I was cooking again about 4.30pm for dinner and after eating all 4 lamb chops and the ribeye I do feel nicely satiated … for now. Not sure where all this hunger is coming from? … but I am feeding it!

Notice the princely ribeye surrounded by his minions :grin: all nice and yummy and plenty of fat.

#159

Well ribeye is simply pure luxury here, it doesn’t get good sales, that’s all for the birds and especially for pork but I don’t exactly mind as pork is great

Okay so today I had an absolutely perfect TMAD!
I got a bit hungry at lunchtime and after an 1200 kcal day I didn’t resist. I had some of my almost-frikadeller dish and a smaller than usual scrambled eggs but with a little sausage in it. Ate the tiny leftover quark-yogurt too from yesterday and some sponge cakes.

I got so, so, so perfectly full  I couldn’t eat at dinnertime (=when Alvaro ate). But I got a wee bit hungry later and I suspected I didn’t eat much yet… I ate up my leftovers and had some more quark/yogurt too. I am very full again and I ate ~1600 kcal. So I have these super easily satiated times again. Fortunately it’s for the level and duration of it, not quickness, it’s no fun to eat many tiny meals, after all.
I liked the dish more than at lunch too.

So all is great now (eating wise). I walked (I just went out in my usual outfit, my thinnest t-shirt and wind jacket. It wasn’t warm. It turned out it was 5 Celsius but we had -10 at down, well not here on the hilltop (that was -5) but in the valley. And we can expect similar days. Still sunny and that’s great but we badly need rain now… We regularly have rain here but this was one of the longest streak of dry weather…

Midwinter temperatures or not, spring can’t be stopped. My daffodils finally started to come out of their “cocoon” And the hyacinths gets bluer and bigger every day too (the pink ones does nothing). The bigger patch of crocus is super long living, still in bloom.
We will visit the pasque flowers again. I so hope to find more, last time there was so, so few compared to the previous years! I don’t want them to disappear :sob:

(Linda ) #160

My pmsf bun made into a burger for first meal.
2nd meal will prob be a ribeye steak.

#161

Nope, I still can’t do TMAD. I ate 3 times. But I think it wasn’t really hunger just my rebellious self. I noticeably got more disciplined or how should I call that, it just happens, mostly, nothing is forced, I am not “strong”, that’s not my style but I don’t go into some brainless eating mode nowadays. Yay.
But I should give that one something. I stop tracking (well, I try). Good food choices and proper timing, not spending all day thinking about food if I can do it, that’s my focus for now. (I obviously spend time with other things but I think about food between morning and late night a lot. and I had dozens of coffee today, that’s not right either. maybe just one dozen? no idea. whenever I am asked questions about such numbers and amounts, I have no idea. I drank a lot of warm water too though. that’s very nice. I was cold today sometimes. I spend my days in perfect satiation nowadays - and I had borderline hunger too today but nothing more - but it has absolutely nothing to do with my food thoughts. I mean I can ONLY think about it when quite hungry but that’s it, the other states are very similar. and I am close to never am quite hungry anyway).
