What are those things in the left bottom corner and where they got that pattern…?
(And why am I this curious about most things?)

Hi, pretty good days here, lots going on but I’m staying on course. Went to the commissary on Ft Myer yesterday and got piles of great meats - a whole beef tenderloin, a pork tenderloin, a tray of chicken thighs, some tuna and sardines.
Tuesday night when we arrived home in VA we dropped off the puppy and went to our old favorite restaurant. Prices through the roof, nearly $20 for a plain bacon cheeseburger, no bun or sides. They brought it in a greasy paper bag and I didn’t order it to go. When they finally did bring it on a plate it was hard and the bacon was hard and I somehow choked it down but I’m really done with that place. It used to be great and we formed friendships with the waiters, but now, no. Today we went to a sports grill and I got wings, they were good and I told the waiter, we’re switching. We like you. So, it’s something. Meanwhile the fridge is full of meat and eggs and it’s going to be a very pleasant week.

Yesterday: Grassfed hamburger and sharp cheddar

Today at the sports grill: wings.
@Karen18 this amount of wings left me stuffed! You’re a world class wing eater!

@Shanita Browned butter made in Halloween moulds.

@JJFiddle I’d have sent it back and gone elsewhere…
Sounds awful…

I dont enjoy eating out much anymore food at home seems to taste so much better im not sure what happened during the pandemic if food got worse at restaurants or if it was always that bad just maybe didnt notice because i ate it too often…The pandemic meant home cooked meals and now thats my preference…not that it’s a issue my husband’s not going to be home for at least another two weeks and then after that maybe home a few days a month…
So its been a great opportunity to throw myself into this 80/20 carnivore 100 percent with no food distractions it’s just me the dogs and the bird…

@Karen18, great pics as usual for ya!

@Azi, have you seen ā€˜the Carnivore Twins’ on youtube…omg they put on an entire video about ā€˜browned butter’ and using all kinds of molds to make them. They are fun to watch. Just checked out their ā€˜browned butter mold’ video like a few wks ago  Someone posted it on the zc forum. Interesting.

@JJFiddle, wow on that price for a bacon cheeseburger and wow it stinks  I SO feel ya on restaurants. I have dumped so many restaurants it is insanity, lol. Plus I always compare an on sale ribeye steak I can get for like $10 vs. paying $40 for the same thing in a restaurant so it gets tough to play the brain game when eating out on carnivore for sure!! Happy your travel was safe and home in VA now!

@Shinita, sorry your meat supply is lower. when you do get out to the shops buy up what ya can for sure!!

--------------Simple. oh boy this is best for me. Many of us keep it very simple and we thrive on just that.

today is chicken breast and a Tbone steak. easy peasy.

ZC ON!!

edited for my food for today!

there is my Tbone to eat first, got 4 chick breasts in that tupperware and will fry up and eat 2. I think family is gonna eat up other 2 with sides, yea, truly, I STILL HAVE to feed them :skull:

Hi guys, I will be scarce, I planned that anyway but…

My aunt (the last close blood relative of mine) died this morning and I am quite out of it now. We organize the funeral only, minus the priest, a pretty urn with her ashes already will be transported there, really no big deal, a few words with the cemetery and that’s about it?
No house+sorting problems as the house goes to her caretakers who made her last years more comfortable and spent in dignity as she was quite sick in the end, shopping was out and she never could cook. And she got company, she was more social than my Mom.

Autumn forest walk with Alvaro (perfect weather, some shrooms, ravens, that was fitting) was the most calm beautiful thing I could have now. I’m hugging him now all the time and it’s good it’s weekend as I don’t want to be alone now.

I save my little meat for later, we planned a few plant-based dishes anyway, I couldn’t really focus on the taste but I still saw I STRONGLY prefer my carni food. Oh well. It’s not like I care. Just am a tad careful as yesterday I had a horrible headache when my eyeballs feel like they try to fall out and I had horrible nausea and vomited and I nearly never do that. Now my insides feel tender and I don’t eat just anything or much.

Best wishes, I will be back, eventually. Food isn’t much on my mind now. Though it was a nice partial distraction in the kitchen today.

AHHHH S I can only send hugs and healing to you on this. I realized it seems you feel alone now in some way and we all do thru family passing and things ā€˜come into change’ so much in family life. Deep down changes we deal with as we all do. Sending condolences and prayers!!!

Don’t worry on food or this or that. Get the emotions under control and deal and just let life take ya a bit ya know. Grief is real and OK. We just work thru it and need time to do just that!!

Just do for YOU right now, that is all anyone should ever do for themselves when they need it!! We support your emotions here and what it takes in this thread for you to heal up! XO

Two firsts for me today. Fried my foods in homemade tallow from beef heart fat. Planning on doing this much more often. Second new thing, is I finally got the cajones to try raw cajones. Surprisingly I think testicles might taste better raw. Next time I cook I will try raw and see if I feel the same after more is eaten.

(Robin) #351

Thinking of you, Shinita. hang in there.

(Karen) #352

:laughing::laughing:
Thats so funny lol. The Lidl buffalo wings are very small , they look a fair bit smaller than yours and were certainly smaller than the starter wings I had in the restaurants last weekend!

(Karen) #353

Condolences @Shinita on your Aunts passing. I will keep you in my prayers big hug coming your way :heart:

Got my lazy behind moving first thing with some stair runs which loosened up my back and neck and set me up for the day. Sat in garden with my books and a brew then out shopping with Raymond. Had lunch at the cafe but forgot to take a pic. Cheese omelette (dont think they put much cheese in but its okay) and 2 rashers of bacon.

Came home via my local Lidl and charity shop which opened next door to Lidl … how convenient … andthen crossed road to retail park and got some butter from M&S. Caved and bought some cheese, gone right off it now lol. Had that and sirloin steak plus jar of mussels and packet of cold water prawns.

Only the one pic today folks lol

It’s quite funny seems this 80/20 has now become quite the ā€œthingā€ā€¦not sure im into doing something thats quite so trendy because things often get lost when that happens.

But what I am finding interesting is ppl found pmsf to make them hungry, make their hair fall out… mess up ppls sleep… to hear my story from so many other woman has been shocking I always figured this was happening just to me but seems so many were quiety suffering… I’ve often stated here that it never worked for me but hated it but tried to stick with it because dr c was using it with his patients…but it just flipped carnivore for me on my head…and I started searching for the me in this woe…

I’ve been doing this 80/20 only a couple weeks now my hair is not so dry to the touch my skin is not so dry… my seborrheic dermatitis has cleared up again…so im really starting to see how important fat is .
I feel so much better like this hope this conti ues.

Since getting into ketosis though my sleep has gone back to not so great but I’m hoping maybe it time it will get better…

This week I’m eating pork steak I took out a family sized pack…so I might have to bulk cook them and re freeze some…
So its pork and butter for the week… reason is I’m going to try mix meats up a bit I love my beef but different meats have different nutrients in differing amounts and this way I might more bases than just mainly beef…im still going to rely on fat for my energy and hunger protein for rebuilding… I will continue to keep things simple…

@Azi I think in general we should avoid thinking on a macro percentage level. Just like keeping under 20 (or whatever) g of carbs is described as a total, not a percentage. So should the idea that you need to ingest enough protein, enough minerals, enough vitamins contained within fat, and enough energy to function either from diet or stored fat. Energy hopefully comes from fat, but of course carbs and lastly protein can contribute to energy. In fact since protein is above both carbs and fat in oxidative priority, it is attempted to be cleared earlier, but at a rate that allows energy from the other materials to dominate. All this to say, eat enough fat to get the vitamins that you need, eat enough meats to get the protein and minerals you need be that 80% or 50% of the total calories. If you are chasing ketones, you need to keep the total proteins and carbs down and the more fat the better to promote ketone production. If you are chasing weight loss, the minimum extra energy above the required protein/minerals/vitamin intake will get there faster. Either way, you seem to be doing great, so keep it up regardless

PS I cannot listen to Dr. C for some reason. I have tried to watch a few of his videos. Something about his mannerisms screams ā€œnoā€ at me. Do you like interactions in person? And please do not take my aversion as suggesting you should have the same aversion.

(Linda ) #357

He is very much the same person in real life as in video I tend to put it down to he is a surgeon trying to speak in layman’s terms so we understand him…

Lately started really altering things based on my blood glucose readings i dont want to go back to pre diabetic …but also mu blood work while I was seeing him showed him signs I was not processing protein properly so I did higher fat for a couple months which showed improvement in my uric acid and other higher markers…so he switched me to high protein low fat a few days a week I obviously still couldn’t process it well enough because I was starving it be full at a meal but 20 mins later I’d be starving so I changed to one meal high fat one meal low and I was great for fat meal but starving the 2nd and eating mote and more protein…
So looking back my body was telling me hey I hate this give me my fat back…
And all through these switches I moved up in weight…
Then when I went high fat again to correct it I was in nebraska but the mistake I made there was adding back the fat but not dropping the protein…even more weight gain.
I just wish id never heard of pmsf it really messed me up and it seems I’m not the only one… I was at goal weight lol…
The eating 80/20 was to get into ketosis but that is also gives a base number for protein i want to make sure im not undereating I don’t measure my fat .
I dont go back to see Dr C til December so the plan for now is to give this til then and see where it takes me…

(Robin) #358

Oye… frustrating. I bet your doctor visit and test results will show that you already know what you need to do to turn things around. Sounds like it to me, anyway.

An honest quest.

Below is a pop culture, young people’s, take on Carnivore Diet. It’s regarded as a religion in Australia. It makes Paul Saladino sound like a crazy preacher. ā€œChurch of Meatā€, ā€œRed Pill Communityā€, Far-Right. A way covered in ā€˜red flags’ :triangular_flag_on_post: :triangular_flag_on_post:

ā€˜Ancestral nutritionist… does sound made up…’

There’s a new religion on the internet, and it’s called the carnivore diet. In social media videos, bronzed, shirtless, Type-A influencer bros devour raw lambs’ testicles and every other kind of meat with zeal. Among their claims: carbs are poison, vegetables are highly suspect, and meat alone offers humans an opportunity to ā€œthriveā€ once again. Nutritionists warn it could be harmful in the long term, but plenty of converts swear by the health benefits.

This is what the younger/ emerging generation are ingesting. The presenter is very skeptical. They work their world by testimonials and influencers. Anti-science?

Drinking vinegar (and soda water) may be a good idea on a carnivore diet. Many vinegars have no Vitamin C, but Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has a trace. And a trace of Vitamin C is all one needs on a carnivore diet as the amount of tissue oxidation is greatly reduced without many carbohydrates.

Eggs and bacon cafe breakfast today. Up in the city for family visitors who have come a long way to see the elders. That side of the family is Italian. Meet ups are meals. Food is omnivorous. I am the ā€˜funny’ Uncle who doesn’t eat his vegetables or desserts. Kookiness is a social camouflage.

(Judy Thompson) #361

@Shinita So sorry to hear of your aunt’s passing. Glad Alvaro is there with you.
@Karen18 funny! I don’t think those wings I ate were all that small, you’re right. But when they say 6 wings and then it’s 6 PIECES of wings - what’s that about?
This morning I taught, then at noon fixed bacon and eggs for us since hubby was taking me to a gig a couple hours later. We planned to stop for supper but it was going to be a long time with driving to a new venue, finding everything, then getting out of there afterwards. I played at MGM Casino in National Harbor, have never been there before as it’s relatively new. Interesting. Huge! To get to the ballroom end we had to walk through the casino itself, interesting. The gig was me and a guitarist for a wedding and reception. He’s an old friend and my guitar teacher too, enjoyable to play with him.
Afterward we went back to that sports grill and I had chicken thighs, 5 of them, ā€œserves 2ā€ haha - I think they must have meant ā€œorder 2 servings.ā€ because when they came I said wow, I never knew hummingbirds had such big thighs! They came with a spicy aioli which I tried. Spicy.

But I chose dry rub and aioli over sauce (yuck).
