Carnivore ZC SurfTurf-tember! 30-day September Challenge. 2022

#222

I used the blur but this post still contains carby references so anyone who has problems with it, beware. I was asked and I replied in my usual verbose level, sorry. I did think about more proper food in the end.

It was stuffed chicken. If I had a bigger momentum (I already gave up on September, I merely put a bunch of carni days into it but I am not as determined as I probably will be in November and January is a must have carni month at this point in my life  seriously, it’s different. September is trickier, I merely was too optimistic as I am prone to) or less optimism, I would have bring my own food… Or figure out what to do with the stuffing (I can’t just left it all. we already grabbed the actual meat and not the middle part without any)… it was nice enough, by the way just very unnecessary, if I wanna spend as many carbs, I have way better ideas… But starch is still loads better than simple sugar. I felt quite good afterwards but I typically am fine if it’s just a single off day and I don’t even start to eat sugar. And I didn’t if we don’t count all the milk I had (it wasn’t that much but it wasn’t very little) I still didn’t stop, today I had about 6 milky coffee this far, small ones with maybe 60ml milk total. Yeah, I will keep my no coffee times until I can consume coffee normally, not 2 per hour… 5 coffee days from 15…

There was a carby side but I am not particularly interested in potato mash with margarine, to put it lightly, IDK why Alvaro ate much of it. He is health-conscious normally and obviously dislikes margarine as it tastes like watered sunflower oil or worse, at least for us who are super far from that lifestyle…
Alvaro’s Mom chooses her ingredients quite differently from us. She never uses something more expensive from the vaguely same group. Low-fat dairy, margarine, common sugar if she bakes something even though she has diabetes and even her other son is health conscious at this point and eat better, sunflower oil… We avoid them all since 12 years, you won’t find any in this house ever. Once I wanted to buy sugar for practicing icing but I couldn’t mentally bear the act of grabbing a package and put into my shopping basket :D. I have my limits, I always say… But I completely stopped icing now (I did the whole thing to have tiny gifts for Christmas and because nicely iced cookies are pretty) and I make rocks instead, they last longer and have other benefits. Better for my peace of mind for sure.

It could have been breaded chicken too. And probably some carby stews exist? Not in this country though, we only have goulash for that but that’s a ruminant dish.
Oh it could have been curry with vegs.
Meat dishes can have so many
The mouflon dish on Sunday will have beetroot. I checked and it will be very few carbs, still a keto day (what’s more, below 20g carbs… not my normal carby keto that I almost never do nowadays), that’s something. Next time I will decide what we do with our ruminant meat. But Alvaro really, really waited to make tuh’u properly. Ancient Sumerian recipe. Okay, not properly as we omitted many carby items but they are just unnecessary flavorings even Alvaro doesn’t need  We made the dish once, with beef and wine (the original recipe calls for beer), now we skip the wine too, IDK how we could use up a whole bottle in a week, we are super bad at drinking so much… But the original recipe calls for mutton. And we have it now.

Next time we buy deer for our ruminant meal, I am very determined. Is there something other option than making a stew from it? I am always ready for more carnivore options (though our stews are just a little bit off) but I want it to be very good!
I don’t know how one makes chili without plants, we only did one type and it was vegetarian…
And it’s amazing how many plant stuff is in “carnivore” chili recipes. And I don’t count the 10 spices… Why is this? I met this phenomenon before, putting all kinds of plants into food and calling it carnivore, very wrongly and I didn’t understand even then.
My carnivore-ish is stricter! And I probably would omit lots of plants on a very off day too… I eat almost zero vegs (and I mean it. sometimes my “barely anything” is much, like if I eat barely anything, that’s easily still 1300 kcal for that day. barely any vegs means a very few options and 10-20g on some days and zero on others. spices not included but I use little of that, usually. my staple dishes don’t need any. I typically do the same off carnivore, off keto, even off low-carb! I just don’t add vegs, they are in the past except the tiny remnants) and I want to keep that, it works well for me.

BUT I found sour cream in one recipe, I like that  I probably even need something if we manage to make the food spicy (and that’s the point). I like spicy just not much. Alvaro likes very spicy things, his Mom just gave us a bunch of dried chili so I immediately thought about the dish chili, it’s exciting as I never even ate a meaty one (if I remember correctly but maybe I don’t), only vegetarian and very carby ones. And a carnivore-ish version, that must be something special!

I feel hot so very often lately and not in a good sense. I think my body entered “autumn state” while the weather is still hot in the middle of the day, quite summer-y, not the hottest summer days but some normal ones… I enjoy the cool times.
Our house keep its temperature. Not for long, weather forecast says temperature will drop 10C soon… 16/17C for MAXIMUM in the weekend! We have way higher temps in October basically every year… But this is weather for you
It surely will warm up again but the house is 24C. If we suddenly got winter, it would take about 2 weeks until it would cool down enough for us to need heating. It’s a nice, insulated house with 2 people who doesn’t need a very warm house in winter. I wonder if I will stand cold more now that I have cold showers. Maybe not, it’s very different to have a quick shower from sitting in the room for hours. But I decided to go to the hilltop every day (morning or evening) wearing summer clothes until I can  No, until I am willing, I surely could do that in -20C, it just would be cold (and normal winter mornings aren’t even frosty or just barely, -20C happens once in a few years, it stays for some/several days though). But the hilltop is super close and I can use some motivation to run… I plan it since weeks but it didn’t happen yet.
I wouldn’t have thought but hairwashing with quite cold water is fine for me. I did wait until I came home hot from my walk so it felt wonderful but still…
Cold showers are cool. At least now, I am very curious what I can do in winter. Probably the same as Alvaro: warm shower and then a quick cold one.

OHH OK that makes sense to me on how ya describe it as not carnivore chicken :100: but one thing we know, we do not ever have to eat that stuffing, but darn I remember the old days of stuffed fowl and omg so delish, but of course now it won’t go down that way for me. I assume ya just didn’t eat that stuffing and that is why ya got more of Alvaro’s chicken he gave to ya  Yea that makes sense now. I just couldn’t think how one could make a non-carnivore whole chicken

weather is a biggie for so many of us. Just do what ya gotta do to make it always work for ya to be a bit comfy and ok!

(Daisy) #224

Thanks! Today is my actual birthday, but I have this gorgeous wagyu ribeye that I’m splitting among 3 meals (and probably then some for tomorrow). image image image image image image

#225

Ohhh happy bday to you!! You know how to celebrate in great zc form and YUM, you know I want that too :100:

@Ketodaisy, How ya doing in general KD in changes you are making?
Ya feel like you are finding you more in what you are tackling thru those changes? just curious cause I know you are working on you and hope only for a great way forward for you!!

we do find ourselves thru the little bits and pieces as we move forward and change it up a bit, are things going very well for you in just ‘finding you’ thru it all?

(Linda ) #226

Happy Birthday hope you have a wonderful day…your steak looks super delicious…

(Linda ) #227

I was the same for a long time. Only into like end of yr 2 and on could I drop fat and wanted to drop fat in meals. I geared at leaner meats. I guess the body said, hey we are ok and healed better, we can now change up our fat intake  I gotta say one can feel real fast if they do ok without higher fat content we are used to eating.

Yeah I’m getting into Dr Boz alot more lately… alot of her stuff just makes alot of sense even before this I seemed to be pulled to meat like flanken ribs ,bacon, and rib eye but even then all my meat is grilled(still is) unless it’s fish or eggs that’s the only food I cook in fat … and other than mayo in egg salad or when I was eating fat on pichana I wasn’t adding fat unless it was coffee

And it makes sense to me the older I get the less hormones I’m producing cos I’ll be 60 next year… and in my blood work last time my vitamin D was 25 lol …so im obviously lacking something Dr BOz says we make vitamin D from cholesterol and all our hormones are made from fat…

When Dr C had me up fat I just changed meats to short ribs and added a little butter… but still ate near the same amount of food…when he had me add pmsf days my body acted like I was totally starving it, and almost had me binge eating…
But I still didn’t really get it I know sometimes it takes a bit to see the missing link and that was that I needed to cut back on protein portions and add in a side dish portion of fat im using goat cheese because it breaks down into mcts which go almost directly to the liver and avoid adipose tissue…so should not be stored as fat but burned as energy…

Since watching the video with Kelly hogan following her on instagram and visually seeing that the amount of added fat I can totally see that I was messing things up and no wonder I was gaining…
I was under eating or over eating…

I can see the visible changes in the few days I been doing this my skin is becoming clearer it feels softer… I haven’t got on the scale I’m gonna go by clothes…
But im no longer hungry after eating infact its causing me to end up eating later than I’d like so got to work on that… cos although my blood glucose remains under 100 in the morning for the most part even still have odd higher reading.

Todays food lamb chops goat cheese sheep’s cheese butter. And coffee

#228

@Ketodaisy: Happy Birthday!!! :tada: Mmm, wagyu ribeye, thing from the legends for me. I could get ribeye but I never was near wagyu! (It would be a waste on me, probably.)

Another reason I feel so hot is humidity. We are in the time where using any dehumidifier isn’t a good idea as we want to keep THIS temperature as long as possible  Even if it’s a tad much for me sometimes, we need this accumulated heat to avoid heating as long as possible! It’s fun when we can pull it off until November  But usually when we come back from the cemetery/aunt visit, the already barely warm enough house left alone for 2.5 days… We typically need to start heating at that point.

I assume I am done with my day. It was interesting.
I had 4 meals in 3.5 hours… I got FULL so quickly today, it’s unusual, probably my very well-eaten previous days have something to do with it… But maybe leaner pork without eggs or anything else for my first 2 meals play a role. And I wasn’t particularly hungry yet, I just wanted to jump my pork, I never worry about eating too much when I focus on a leanish pork and pretty much avoid carbs. But I needed more food so I ate when I could again. And again. It will get sorted out, it didn’t bother me today.

I had 450g pork butts, fried, YUM but needed 2 meals to finish it!
About 120g chicken, a cold drumstick, yum.
At this point I really didn’t worry about my protein/energy ratio but definitely didn’t want any more meat  It was wonderful but enough for one day, thank you. But I needed a little more food.
So I had 1.6 eggs (2 but one was tiny), a yolk and 3 sponge cakes with a little Red Leicester cheese and a tiny slice of butter.
Oh and some milky coffees (but I used some of the eggs in them too).
Guesstimation says 140g protein and 60% fat. I can go down to 55% fat if I try but I need my calories too so this is low enough. I couldn’t eat little fat, my body wanted really much all my life. And I kind of fight to keep it low since I went low-carb, not very seriously, it’s me and precious fat… :upside_down_face: But I do try to behave around fat. 60% is very little fat today, only 100g! Borderline miracle from me, seriously. Or just carnivore magic when I focus on the right meat…

I feel super full now (as usual, it has nothing to do with my stomach). No photos, maybe tomorrow, today I just ate

Tomorrow will be quite similar unless I will desire something else. But I was happy enough with my food today (I can eat without appetite but it’s not ideal. now I had some and I enjoyed all my food). I will wait for proper hunger though, tiny meals are so not me!

(Karen) #229

Happy birthday hope you’ve been having a special time so far x

(Karen) #230

Work today so took the usual pack up in … cooked chick slices with added butter and cajun spice. @Fangs yeah I’m fine with the cajun, I just find the cheapo chick breast very tasteless and it needs to be jazzed up some.

After work I went straight to kitty sit again. Wasnt expecting my daughter to get back from Crewe till 7ish but she was home by 3.45! Nice surprise and always glad to see her safely home after driving up the motorway.
Dinner was buffalo chick wings, 2 scrambly duck eggs, a bit of deli meat yuk, a mug of lamb juice from slow cooker and some cockles.

And I could eat this cutiepie too lol

(Linda ) #231

Todays second meal a repeat of first minus sheeps cheese i cut back on the fats because I just wasn’t hungry and if I do get hungry I got another meal.i can eat if I don’t this maybe it til tomorrow

(Daisy) #232

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!!

@Fangs, I’m doing fantastic with these changes! I’m maintaining (and continuing to slowly lose) 15 pounds in the last 2 months (between the fast and this new method). I’m sleeping better, I’m feeling good. Everything is doing what everyone says carnivore should be!!!

(Linda ) #233

Are we doing the same thing?

(Daisy) #234

Yep! I did a 15 day fast, then shifted into the dr Boz protocol. I’m on day 37

(Linda ) #235

Well thats amazing love your results…iI just started with her protocol about a week ago with the tiny meals before that with getting my blood glucose under 100…
Now im trying to make sure I hit her 40 or under at least for now once a day tonight before my third meal I was at 35 so im happy with that…

#236

Decided to break the fast at the end of 4 days. I reached peak Ketosis (according to the Keto-pee stick things). And, went on a good bit longer after that. But, by tonight, I’d had enough. Ate butter on chicken. beef stick (no sugar!), a bit of smoked cheddar. Craving for salt in the worst way…could not drink enough broth or salted water. So, I feel better now.

Loaded up on some good meats and cheeses at Aldi. Hubby reeled in another salmon, so got that to look forward to. A big beefy 2 yr old bull is going to the butcher next week, so, that is on the horizon as well. Carnivore should not be a challenge, at all. And, the daily haul of eggs is between 10 and 15, so again - there is variety.

There is an abundance of cukes in the garden- with a haul of 37 the other morning. While I can do without eating the actual cuke, the juice from all the dill pickles canned, is delicious. Its been a long day of driving and retail therapy, so heading off to bed early tonight. Lovely trip, though. Got some Christmas shopping done for the grandkids. Whew. Trying to decide what to get all the kiddos now. Done airfyers one year, InstaPots another year. Contemplating food mills or meat grinders this year. Most of them hunt, so, the meat grinder could make sense. We’ll see. Fun little find while at Fleet Farm… bought some targets so I can do a little shooting tomorrow, if the weather is okay. cool and rainy today.

OKeedokee…doing the carnivore waltz off to bed! Nighty night!

(Judy Thompson) #237

Love this! Painting rocks instead of frosting cookies. Good choice

#238

This is such a good observation. I had been wearing glasses for over 20 years. After going ZC carnivore my eyesight has improved. I don’t wear glasses for working on the computer, when I used to. I do have reading glasses for books, though. I burn through novels as part of my bedtime rituals (no electronics). I do wear glasses for the long drives. Around the homestead and property I don’t wear glasses for outdoor chores. I haven’t worn sunglasses for a few years despite living in Australia. Whereas the sunlight used to be overly bright.

I’ve been busy in the city. It’s toxic there. People and food and pressures and cravings and competition. Trying to hold strong, with a few wobbles and horse-falls. Back in the countryside and in the ZC groove.

(Judy Thompson) #239

@Ketodaisy happy belated birthday! Your birthday Waygu looked fantastic!
@FrankoBear Really great on the eyesight changes! I have clip ons for my glasses, which are tradition lenses. The transitions don’t feel that dark in the direct Texas sun but I haven’t felt the need for sunglasses (the clip ons) this year at all - maybe it’s zc.
Good to continually check to see how we see :sunglasses:
@Fangs thank you so much, I read Dr Stock’s article and I see that it’s not necessary to change too much. I panic a little because in the past I’ve done so well for a few months, usually lose 30 or 40 lbs - and then stalled for a long time and eventually the weight creeps back on, and I have to stick with the diet because if I get off of it I’ll gain even more. Hopefully ZC is different. “It can take years” is actually reassuring. Meanwhile his step 1 is to just cut fat in half the final meal of the day and perhaps cut out dairy and cheese.
His point on set points is unfortunately well taken.

Tuesday was a long one, can’t remember if I posted. Eggs and sausage in the morning, played our violin - bass duo 4 hours at the winery (a big open building) then went to Luckenbach to play. I had the cut up steak in a heated lunch box, a little tough from reheating but it did the job. We only stayed 2 hours as my back was killing me, then gone and I split 3 slices of sharp cheddar with the puppy…
Wednesday day I threw a pork tenderloin in the sous vide then seared it. (The other half is for today.) Wednesday evening we were at the seafood restaurant, a successful evening. I discovered that as much as I like to chat with customers, it’s nice not to take as many breaks but keep a slower pace… But we’re still negotiating on that!
Yesterday, shopping. Very little because we now leave Sunday, as a job has come in for Wednesday in Virginia :upside_down_face:
We’re taking the Prius V instead of the Transit so it’s a tight fit for us with instruments, amps and equipment plus whatever we need for 6 weeks! It’s a 3 day drive with puppy on my lap, but we’re looking forward to 3 days without performing, it’s been so busy here! Eating is a breeze for me on these trips, eggs and sausage in the hotel buffet and 2 truck stop hot dogs without buns, then our cooler at night. I got a bag of cooked shrimp to help, and extra grassfed hamburger. Hopefully it keeps in the ice! Along with the raw dog food. All going in frozen.
Today, packing and rest. Tonight, the seafood place again.
I shot a pic of a Crawfish bowl but it’s on hubby’s phone. I’ll have to get that later. - I’ll try to get the seafood tower tonight.

With the tenderloin I made tuna and egg salad.
Yesterday at the brewery, wings.
Tuesday, rib eye. (though I feel like I posted this pic.)
Hard to get time to write but doing my best to read your posts a few times a day!

(Michael) #240

Anyone want to have an eating competition, I have been training. Breakfast yesterday

#241

@Ketodaisy
Super Duper happy you are doing so well and progressing and you enact changes but I sure can’t ever go there on that fasting but if you young’ins can handle it, more power to you in how it needs to suit you!!!
You sound very full of pizz and vinegar and I love that for ya!

@Azi
that steak, omgosh what a pic, all I see me is just tearing on that bone. I love doing just that HA

oh yes I remember the ol’ farm days, which aren’t that long ago gone by but they seem like a diff. life to me. Nothing better than your own in the freezer!! We focused alot on hogs for our farm biz sales and our pork was just the best. I know the pride you have in that freezer SB and the work involved to eat that well!

I know FB cause I went thru it also. It is a tough ‘flip’ from loving you homestead quiet time and nature at home to ‘WORK!!!’ and rat race. I know you will get a good handle on it. We all have to make decisions on ways forward with our entire lives and how it works best for us and you will find a good balance, I know you are seeing it and working on it but yea, toxic is a key word for people like me. I feel ya on it all.

Yes key being do it slowly. See and feel if you do ok on it, and I think you will and ZC changes comes faster when we start but it slows.

key again to zc is a normal eating daily life. 0 dieting. none, nada, takes that pressure off those who ‘can’t diet’ down with fasting, check stats and macros, did I eat too much this or that? When it suits us it sure does suit us.

remember also JJ you are not a number on that scale and I guarantee you body change composition comes with ZC as long as you hold the plan, eat well at all times when ya need it but if you ‘think Dr Kevin in a way, it is kinda easy to cut a little of our fat out of our meal or a little less protein on another meal ya know without throwing us into ‘some controlling friggin’ unattainable nightmare dieting mess’ again ya know. Some of us have to be out of that dieting rat race and if this suits you just roll slow ahead and let yourself see where it takes you.

Well that is what suited me. I have a life. A real one that I wanted to live and put thoughts/ time / energy into LIVING vs. putting it into ‘dieting’ for some dumb azz results that would only make me anxious and crazy.

I guess I walked way too many dieting scenarios in my life. ZC gives me it all, might not be fast in how I want changes, but over the years, I eat so well, changes and lbs drop, body comp changes with clothes looser thru no lose on scale and then I also have a daily well being of just being friggin’ happy I get to eat all this great zc food! I found me here, sounds like you will too!!!

If we attempt big change on such a radical menu as zc we can thrive for a while but we can monkey too much and upset the applecart…yea I did it a few times and learned, but this was ME on zc ya know, you just go with the zc flow and let it happen as it suits you. We must be individuals on this plan and always suit what works for us!

but if we ‘think Dr. Kevin’ in a way, yes we can easily change up a meal to suit us and enact small changes to our bodies to adapt but the body might say no, and if it does, just feed it zc, ya can’t go wrong with jsut that

Girl you sound so busy! Happy tho your music biz is doing so well for you guys!

My little dog hates cheese. Hates bacon. WTH? HAHA but I am like every dog loves bacon and cheese but Bolt won’t touch it. I bought ‘doggie snacks’ of bacon and cheese and wasted alot of money trying to get him to eat that stuff but good thing is, he just loves the carnivore meats like me :100: Mimsy is so cute!!

@Naghite, yea I will take ya on but not right now, lol.
I can eat tons but right now in that lower eating mode, but what have you been in training for? what ya doing? but that is a super nice pic of a beauty zc plate to me!!

---------------so I made my chicken alfredo first in my meals
I made so much, wasted alot of it, no I did not sop up all that alfredo LOL One reason ‘cooking sauces’ for one is hard ya know.
but omgosh so delish.

image000000%20(24)

So that is cut up chicken in my homemade alfredo. Doggie got some scrap chicken, again didn’t wanna give it to him but hey, he has to carnivore too

second meal was a NY Strip steak. no fat cut off, I wanted it all and ate it all. Just over 1/2 lb steak. Had to give the other steak in package to hubby…boo.

so I was a tad hungry later so I opened a tin of sardines. Yum. dessert. hit the spot and done deal on eating.

today woke up ‘not hungry’ and no food draw. Hmmm, I do have another steak in there but for some reason my brain in thinking sardines and can of tuna and may as first meal. I must be needing something from sardines and tuna :sunny: Sure I can handle that and just follow what the body is asking so just hanging and doing regular zc as usual.

Sept is rockin’ on down, Oct will give us a new fall beginning into the holiday season we go. I already got my handle on it if I live thru it – I plan to change nothing zc as usual HAHA but yes I have to think firmly ahead to know I am SET and not budging thru any events etc. This is what it takes for me. Controlling type planner freak is in my nature so this works out well for me to do just this.
