Carnivore ZC SurfTurf-tember! 30-day September Challenge. 2022

(Linda ) #202

This mornings blood glucose came in at 107 but I ate late after 7pm last night it seems everytime I do that I see a shocking reading in the morning its jus t im not hungry when i prob should be eating and before i know it its already well past 7pm…I bought some test strips for my keto mojo to see if this new way of eating does flip me back into ketosis I didn’t test til after breakfast and wanted to test when my b lood glucose was up I still came in at 1.2 …the other day when I tested with lower blood glucose of 97 it was 2.4
So that is a huge change i was lucky to read 0.4 or 0.2 before and so I gave up testing … I’m not chasing a particular number but just being in ketosis I’m already feeling the difference in my hunger at meals dropping away…
I’m not suggesting anyone else has to measure but for now this how I’m doing it… eating to my meters.

@karen yeah I’d not add all the options either but growing up in New zealand pies were a very big part of life style whether it be meat, bacon and egg so I guess it caught my attention lol…

(Karen) #203

Yep pies have always been a big thing here too but I have never been a pie fan as I never liked the pie crust but one made of pork rinds well I can just taste the crispiness against the moist meaty chunks gets me drooling (probably be disappointing now :sweat_smile:)

@Fangs Bolt is gorgeous doggo, I love collies, such intelligent doggos.

I went and fed Astrid the dragon cat then posted a parcel for my daughter and came home for a coffee and read in the garden. The sun was shining and it was warming up fast. Then went into Beeston and met Raymond for brunch at our local cafe. I had 2 fried eggs 2 rashers bacon and 2 sausages. A clean plate, such a shame they cook it on the grille much prefer a frying pan but hey ho they’d only shove some putrid oil in to cook it in.

Returned home about 2.30 before off out again to get cat litter and spend time with Astrid. She is such a loving little tyke, really loves being petted. Some cats want you to pet them and as soon as you start its …uh oh had enough lol but not her she could take petting all day!

Came home via lidl as I needed some pack up cooked chick and bought some beef pastrami which I promptly ate along with 3 ducky scrambly eggs and followed with pickled mussels for dessert.

Forgot I’d got the fresh lamb shoulder slices in the fridge so chucked them in slow cooker and will have those when I get home from work tomorrow.

2nd meal same as first flanken rib sheep cheese, goat cheese butter and a egg coffee

Blood glucose before 91 ketones 1.9

(Michael) #205

Doing ADF this week, so large breakfast today

Buffalo heart, beef stew cubes, beef thymus, beef oxtail, chicken liver and homemade bacon. Man was I stuffed, going to try and eat two more steaks today……if I can.

#206

Meat pies are some semi-mystical foreign things to me. I never had or see I think, they are not a thing here. They sound nice but if I have meat, I can just fry/roast and eat it. Only a few meat dishes can top that sometimes but they don’t include a pie.

Our fridge is nearly completely empty at this point, I don’t know when it was like this the last time! City shopping was ages ago, we run out of everything except the 2 chicken legs, it will be lovely after the shopping. And lacking but I probably will have all kinds of stuff to eat then so I can pull off a single day especially after this one. Chicken really feels a flimsy thing despite being protein rich and very fatty too, the legs that I prefer, I mean.

And FINALLY I am not hungry. Unsatiable Days are rare in my life but they are a bit hard and time consuming despite not having appetite problems, at least I have that. And they happen on carnivore too, apparently.

Now I want some chill days.

3 days with coffee in September this far. I had difficulties and coffee is kinda nice… Not bad from me.

(Linda ) #207

2 hours after 2nd meal blood glucose 88 ketones 2.5

(Daisy) #208

@Fangs We tried introducing raw chicken today and she would not touch it with a 10 foot pole I cooked it in the air fryer and she scarfed it down!

Todays meals: image image image image

I went back to Kroger this morning in search of the Gruyere egg bites. No luck, but I did find a pack of the sausage ones on marked down for $.99 so I had that this morning with goat cheese and butter. Meal two was the other half of that New York strip and suet. Meal three was bison tongue, butter, salmon skin and goat cheese.

#209

He is a Papillion.
I think his color black and white you are thinking he might be a border collie, but he is just a little ol’ thing.

Astrid, dragon cat, YET loves to be petted…hmmm, did you guys hang a bad wrap name on her being a dragon HAHA I also love cats that like to be around people. Alot of my barn cats would let ya pet them for a minute then gonzo. Only a few were ‘lap cats’ which I prefer too, I love the loud purring when they are so content to just hang and purr forever. Very calming.

yea mine is ok with raw but alot of times he won’t touch it, I then have to cook it too and he inhales it. I don’t know what it is about that
But Sophie is now gonna wrap you around her little paws too HA

-----------------Wonderful zc pics on the board!

NY strip steak and chicken. Repeat meals. I like when I just repeat meals and am happy doing just that. Again, keeping it super duper simple.

(Karen) #210

All my daughters cats have been named after Disney characters lol and yes it was Bolts colouring and shape of face that made me think collie. Some collies have quite sharp facial features. I suppose I also thought having been farmers… adding 2 and 2 together and making 5 of course lol … beautiful anyway

#211

yea I was all big collies back in the day with owning 2 wonderful full sized colllies like Lassie…a few Aussie Cattle dogs when the farm was in full swing cause my hubby loved them but I am still more big dogs  But when kiddo was born she wanted a ‘dog’ so when all my big dogs passed we got ‘the mini’ which is in the house. None of my farm dogs were in my home, this was a wild and icky experience for me cause to me literally they belong outside but as the little critter grew on me I ‘let him’ stay inside cause I figured something would kill him outside but also my daugher wouldn’t allow him ‘not being in her bed’ and part of the inside family LOL

for me it was when he was a pup and new he was the type you could hold in one hand literally and put him out in the front yard to pee before bed and an owl flew off the roof and near him on the ground and ‘eyed him real tough’ as in ‘can I eat this?’ I stook on the porch and thought this darn owl is gonna take my kid’s dog LOL I scared the owl by saying, oh hell no, it swiveled its head and eyeballed me on the porch and the dog never new anything, pup was wanting to just pee.

so then I thought, ok I gotta be one to be the safety factor of this tiny azz dog HAHA

I tell ya K…it is always an adventure.

but for me personally won’t ever have another inside dog. I did this doggie for my daughter. when he passes, done deal  You are right tho, I got diff. thoughts being the type of person I am so for me it is compromise a bit til I don’t…and I won’t

Hey all. Hoping everyone is doing well and staying on track. I’ve been on, and off a bit. Went kinda AWOL with everything going on here. The memorial service and luncheon went off ( served 80+) without a hitch. Worked my arse off, and did the dinner for the following day. Beef tenderloin and chicken Kiev. Again, no sweat. can’t believe it.
Hubby is fishing in Alaska for a week. Hoping for salmon and halibut on dry ice. =)
Gave the boss my notice at work. The bones in the legs and feet cannot handle the concrete floors anymore. might stay on 1 day a week. I dunno. we shall see.
Am in the middle of a 7 day fast right now. Broth, coffee, water. And working 32 hours this week. Gotta clean out the gut and the joints. No better way.

(Robin) #213

You are rounding the corner and will get your mojo back now. Glad you spoke up at work too.

#214

We are back from the city and spent even just visiting LIDL… We spent as much money there as at the gas station and we didn’t buy much, they had NO cat food, barely any pork… And while Alvaro figured out that 1.1kg tiny little pieces don’t necessarily mean that 2kg is the limit (the little town supermarket did that), I forgot about it all so I only bought the biggest, 1.28kg piece. Oh it will be fine for a few days  I found some turkey necks on sale (stupid plastic box… but I wanted turkey) and bought pâté… And some dairy. I am okay for some time.

I planned to fast until we get home but I got hungry and Alvaro’s Mom made chicken… Not carnivore one but it was nice and I felt better not hungry. I ate a big leg and a drumstick because Alvaro couldn’t eat his big leg, how adorable, it was maybe 320g meat? And he willingly parted with some. Well I surely didn’t complain.
Then I had some very enjoyable milky coffee (4 coffee days from 14 this far…). I tasted the milk, it was very sweet. And it’s not lactose free, it’s normal… But I felt it as sweet as the extra sweet lactose free milk last time. Very sweet. It would bother me in something that shouldn’t ever be sweet.

I had some little dinner at home, not like I was hungry but wanted pancakes and cheese. Alvaro’s usual Gouda was sold out but there was Red Leicester on sale. Pretty, flavorful stuff. I had to taste it.

Tomorrow I do my best to go back to carnivore OMAD (the first part is a given, OMAD is never sure on low-carb). It won’t be very long as Alvaro is planning a non-carnivore dish with our tiny mouflon, he waited for so long to get both main ingredients, now we have them so it will happen. Maybe I will mostly eat the meat, that suits my tastes way more anyway. But I can’t not try it out (if it would be a long carni streak already, maybe I would put it into the freezer but now I won’t) and it’s 500g so I can’t cut off a piece just for me. it’s good it’s me and September, yeah, I had plans but I already realized September is shaky. I just squeeze many carni days into it. When the food is up to me, it’s way easier. The next 3 days will be fine. Oh I decided on a new experiment/phase. Pork butts (I decided I will use this to the thing I buy as “pork thigh” as it’s probably usually that and always just like that), about a pound a day first. No playing with eggs first, it was reasonable when I couldn’t eat much meat but not anymore. It has so many pros!

  1. My days will be more similar, easier to compare and draw conclusions.
  2. Hopefully I won’t get these “omg I want a ton of meat NOW” days when I neglect meat a tiny bit. And I don’t even notice as my body changes its idea of “enough meat” a lot. But a pound sounds a nice start.
  3. Lately my problem was eating too much fat just because my protein wasn’t high enough yet. I naturally eat fatty even when I try not to and I need much protein. With this meat, my protein gets a headstart  It’s useful on low-cal days too…
  4. Some not very fatty pork is the best for satiation as far as I can tell. (And ruminant too but that’s rare in my life and it’s chewy so eating a pound of it every day isn’t what I wanna do. Sometimes I even prefer something more tender than pork so I choose chicken or fish or pâté. Partially. Of course the difference in flavors is nice too.)

My almost 70/30 fried pork experiments got derailed but I will do it again when I will have that pork again. Not in the very near future, hopefully as its protein/energy ratio isn’t good at all. But it’s lovely here and there.

Prices, they are rising, obviously. Supermarket egg prices are totally crazy, we buy perfectly fine eggs cheaper in the village. All dairy prices are climbing steadily as I can tell, some more than others. Butter didn’t change in some weeks or not much, wow… But it always was expensive. Cheese, well that went up, a lot, again.
Meat prices are still fine, well, pork prices, chicken and beef are different but they went up before, I don’t think they changed in the last month. And as I experienced, there are still nice chicken leg sales  Turkey is still cheap, well, the parts I like, drumstick, wing, even neck.

Next month the price caps get lifted (some meats, milk and some items we don’t buy). I hope pork butts won’t be so hard to get then, I like and need that stuff! And I hope the price won’t be suddenly above all other common cuts. Oh maybe it won’t just everything will get expensive… No, I don’t think so. People would be too displeased.

By the way, people totally overreact things. Yes, we have unusually high inflation and we always had a serious one. If I remember the few prices from my childhood, I can see that we pay 100-200 times as much for them. And now there’s war. Climate change. And farmers don’t use irrigation and it doesn’t suit our months long draughts.
But people still comment that oh these prices (they always include gas and electricity too and most people pay the same for them. but people act like we can’t afford anything), it’s a miracle if someone still can cook. They totally overreact. Maybe they just joke, I saw these on a fun site (I never meet Hungarians elsewhere except my close family, it’s only 2 FB groups) but it still can be annoying.
But yep, prices got a bit crazy. Could be way worse, sometimes I wonder how on Earth could people live and function in the times when prices just doubled every day or something. The bills got more and more zeros rapidly… It must be HELLISH. And it wasn’t their only problem, it was somewhere around world wars I suppose. Okay, THAT was something over 9000, it’s fine to be sad about what we have now as it’s quite serious but even our eating isn’t in danger yet.

Mmmmm… Good luck! I don’t even know what halibut is  I never met one.
Btw I saw mussels in the supermarket. But only a whole kg, I don’t like it that much… It wasn’t expensive but it’s just mussels… Why can’t we have pickled ones here? Maybe we have it in a hidden corner of a hypermarket? Next time I will check!
And I will buy some mixed seafood for Christmas. And some fish if my fishy phase last until then… Some new species we never tried.

(Karen) #215

Perhaps you need to pickle your own @shanita. I am finding that quite a cheaper way and the mussels are nicer than the already jarred picked ones.

Work today and I took some sliced cooked chick with butter and cajun spice to heat in mikey.
Straight to kitty sit after work, got there at 2 30pm but by 3 15 I was nearly dropping off to sleep so I stayed about half an hour longer before coming home to eat. I ate the lamb that was in the slow cooker, too hungry to re heat it in over so ate it cold which isn’t my fav way of eating lamb. Followed it with 2 rollmop herrings and a tub of pickled mussels. Off to bed now.

Ate a few more than I put on the plate lol

#216

Not a bad idea but it’s hard to get mussels :frowning: Now LIDL had some Iberian days or something so they popped up but only in big amounts. Seafood mixes have them too but that’s too little…
1 kg for cheap wouldn’t be bad if I was sure I would like it… But I barely tried mussels before and they seemed pretty tasteless where only the flavoring helped something…

I will keep my eyes peeled for mussels in the future!

I don’t know why you folks talking much about certain items make me more and more curious until I can’t contain it but that is what happens. I am only mildly interesting in pickled mussels but it will get worse

(Daisy) #217

I had an eye appointment and a ton of errands to run this morning, so didn’t eat my first meal until 11:30. Side note, I got lasik eye surgery 10 years ago. 3 years ago, I got readers from my eye Dr, but something was wrong with the prescription so I put them in a drawer to be dealt with. That was the same time I started carnivore. Well, about a month in, I realized that the problem I had been complaining about to the dr (fuzzy words on the computer screen) was completely gone and I no longer needed the glasses! The last 3 eye appointments have confirmed that my eyes re-stabilized and I no longer need any corrections! Anyway, after the appointment, I went to the butcher and picked up 6 pounds of beef fat trimmings. Then I ran a few more errands before picking up my (not free…if you have to pay a takeout fee, it’s not free) birthday wings from bbw. I got them plain, but with a side of Parmesan garlic sauce. I used less than half of the container, which worked out to less than a tablespoon. That had me way high on protein, so I had 3 tablespoons of kerrygold. Then for meal two I had 2 oz bison tongue, 2 oz cold iron steak, and 2 oz beef fat.

(Judy Thompson) #218

Ok I’m thinking of adding 2 days carni psmf a week. I read it can break a weight loss stall.
I lost 45 of the 90 extra pounds between Jan and March 31st but only 2 lbs since.
I’m not finding much on psmf + carnivore, just keto +psmf or even sad + psmf. What do y’all think of this idea?
Excess fat does still disturb my digestion.

(Linda ) #219

Well try it and see how you go…only way to find out if it’s going to work for you…

Low fat doesn’t work for me im loving the new 80/20 … I love the high fat approach feel good although I’m not able to eat 4 times a day I’m eating 3… sleeping well and now just see if being in constant ketosis will drop the weight.

#220

I’d rather stay fat. PSMF is pure starving to me, I find it interesting it’s so popular… Of course just such days are different than doing it for long, how do people do it normally?

But I go leaner starting today myself! I fried 900g (2 pounds) of pork butts, it looks very pretty but I am satiated enough not to eat it asap  I am a bit brave with this, actually… Lunch skipping is in danger! But a lunch doesn’t necessarily mess with my goals especially on a lowish-fat carni day! I don’t want chicken for the 3rd day in row (of course it can change, it’s only noon and I am not hungry yet) so it’s probably will be more than a pound of pork. That doesn’t look much anyway. Of course I don’t neglect my eggs either but I don’t plan to eat many. My focus will be on my meat in the near future! I had those “3-5 eggs first” times for too long. It was needed in the beginning but now I can handle more meat and pork satiates and satisfies me more than eggs anyway (if I still have some eggs, I rarely would be satisfied without some in my day).

I am hopeful, with a reason as I experienced I only ate all my food for protein lately, it just often brought a lot of fat. And it’s fine to some extent but I overdo fat too easily and if I don’t, I still can’t add sour cream generously and that’s a sad thing when I finally have it… Not my fav brand but we only visited a single supermarket and not the one with the best sour cream. And they are all different.
I bought some fattier kefir too, that will be fun, I like sour stuff and sour cream isn’t particularly sour, just a tiny bit (sometimes it’s not sour at all, at least it feels so to me but I avoid those brands). I never liked yogurt (it’s not bad just a little nothing that isn’t even sour  since then I discovered Greek yogurt, we didn’t have that in my childhood… that’s fatty so substantial enough for me) but I used to buy kefir 1-2 times a year because it is a delightfully sour little thing. And differently than other sour things.

#221

wow. what will you do with ALL this time on your hands  I know you, with your lifestyle you will fill it up very quickly!!

Sorry though your legs and feet are to this level tho. My hubby did 12 hr shifts on concrete floors near 25 yrs, they can be a real killer for all truly!

Happy you are resetting yourself. Hope with less work now you can get that leg situation under better recovery for yourself also!

@Shinita
sorry your city shopping trip did yield you a better meat haul.

You are so right prices are crazy! Not over either, many of us will have to handle rebudgeting how we buy. No joke on that one!

Wondering, when you said Alvaro’s mom made chicken, but not carnivore chicken? how do you kinda mean that. Just curious on what someone can do to a chicken and make it not carnivore? I can’t kinda get a picture in my mind on that one

@Karen18, great dragon cat pics.
You are doing ok on some cajun spice still? that is great. I can’t handle it anymore but I used cajun spice tons when I started yrs ago. I loved chick and cajun flavor, lived on it  but it got to where the cajun spice got too tough for me to handle, so I dropped it but YUM on chick and cajun! Enjoy!

WOWZA on that one KD! Stellar!

and your ‘free but not free’ bday wings look good, lol
and I hope you had a great birthday, but with great news on your eye issues, sounds like you got a good present the other day!! Hope it was a good Bday for ya!!

read this JJ:

Dr Kevin Stock is all carnivore but he is also a bodybuilder so as you read this, alot of this chat is geared at ‘being shredded’, lol, etc. but this information suits all carnivores!!! Just read it slowly and get what he is saying on how to work out some issues but also remember, IF YOU feel your ‘feeling off either mentally or physically’ while tweaking your zc menu, back off. US carnivores when we try to control ourselves like this can get into a bad way fast and it can monkey with our appeties and our brains so just keep in mind, anything you tackle do it slow and if anything feels off to you in any way, always go eat some meat  and just go back to solid basics. OK just some chat on it for ya.

I was the same for a long time. Only into like end of yr 2 and on could I drop fat and wanted to drop fat in meals. I geared at leaner meats. I guess the body said, hey we are ok and healed better, we can now change up our fat intake  I gotta say one can feel real fast if they do ok without higher fat content we are used to eating.

--------------got a l lb. NY Strip steak and chicken.

sound familar? Yup LOL

My first meal was steak yesterday and it was delish. But get this, I cut off a huge amt of fat from one part of it, I saw it and said real fast, I don’t want that fat point blank. Then I fried up a big ol’ chick breast and add in some extra butter cause I kinda was needing some fat in that meal but when I ate it, usually I pour that butter over that chicken and sop it up…nope. I didn’t want it.

So I think weather change is effecting me again. Nip outside. High heat leaving and Fall is coming so I think for some reason, I don’t know and don’t care really, the body is NOW asking for less fat intake. Hey I am fine with it. I eat what I want, when I want and how the body is asking at all times and right now the fat yesterday was just not wanted.

So I go with the flow

I got me a hankering soon for alfredo sauce to make with my chicken. The butter fry is getting boring, now my mind is chicken alfredo…yum…but again, even tho wanted will I be wanting to do the little bit of kitchen work to make it happen, hmm, we shall see

Strong ZC all!
