We are back from the city and spent even just visiting LIDL… We spent as much money there as at the gas station and we didn’t buy much, they had NO cat food, barely any pork… And while Alvaro figured out that 1.1kg tiny little pieces don’t necessarily mean that 2kg is the limit (the little town supermarket did that), I forgot about it all so I only bought the biggest, 1.28kg piece. Oh it will be fine for a few days
I found some turkey necks on sale (stupid plastic box… but I wanted turkey) and bought pâté… And some dairy. I am okay for some time.
I planned to fast until we get home but I got hungry and Alvaro’s Mom made chicken… Not carnivore one but it was nice and I felt better not hungry. I ate a big leg and a drumstick because Alvaro couldn’t eat his big leg, how adorable, it was maybe 320g meat? And he willingly parted with some. Well I surely didn’t complain.
Then I had some very enjoyable milky coffee (4 coffee days from 14 this far…). I tasted the milk, it was very sweet. And it’s not lactose free, it’s normal… But I felt it as sweet as the extra sweet lactose free milk last time. Very sweet. It would bother me in something that shouldn’t ever be sweet.
I had some little dinner at home, not like I was hungry but wanted pancakes and cheese. Alvaro’s usual Gouda was sold out but there was Red Leicester on sale. Pretty, flavorful stuff. I had to taste it.
Tomorrow I do my best to go back to carnivore OMAD (the first part is a given, OMAD is never sure on low-carb). It won’t be very long as Alvaro is planning a non-carnivore dish with our tiny mouflon, he waited for so long to get both main ingredients, now we have them so it will happen. Maybe I will mostly eat the meat, that suits my tastes way more anyway. But I can’t not try it out (if it would be a long carni streak already, maybe I would put it into the freezer but now I won’t) and it’s 500g so I can’t cut off a piece just for me. it’s good it’s me and September, yeah, I had plans but I already realized September is shaky. I just squeeze many carni days into it. When the food is up to me, it’s way easier. The next 3 days will be fine. Oh I decided on a new experiment/phase. Pork butts (I decided I will use this to the thing I buy as “pork thigh” as it’s probably usually that and always just like that), about a pound a day first. No playing with eggs first, it was reasonable when I couldn’t eat much meat but not anymore. It has so many pros!
- My days will be more similar, easier to compare and draw conclusions.
- Hopefully I won’t get these “omg I want a ton of meat NOW” days when I neglect meat a tiny bit. And I don’t even notice as my body changes its idea of “enough meat” a lot. But a pound sounds a nice start.
- Lately my problem was eating too much fat just because my protein wasn’t high enough yet. I naturally eat fatty even when I try not to and I need much protein. With this meat, my protein gets a headstart
It’s useful on low-cal days too…
- Some not very fatty pork is the best for satiation as far as I can tell. (And ruminant too but that’s rare in my life and it’s chewy so eating a pound of it every day isn’t what I wanna do. Sometimes I even prefer something more tender than pork so I choose chicken or fish or pâté. Partially. Of course the difference in flavors is nice too.)
My almost 70/30 fried pork experiments got derailed but I will do it again when I will have that pork again. Not in the very near future, hopefully as its protein/energy ratio isn’t good at all. But it’s lovely here and there.
Prices, they are rising, obviously. Supermarket egg prices are totally crazy, we buy perfectly fine eggs cheaper in the village. All dairy prices are climbing steadily as I can tell, some more than others. Butter didn’t change in some weeks or not much, wow… But it always was expensive. Cheese, well that went up, a lot, again.
Meat prices are still fine, well, pork prices, chicken and beef are different but they went up before, I don’t think they changed in the last month. And as I experienced, there are still nice chicken leg sales
Turkey is still cheap, well, the parts I like, drumstick, wing, even neck.
Next month the price caps get lifted (some meats, milk and some items we don’t buy). I hope pork butts won’t be so hard to get then, I like and need that stuff! And I hope the price won’t be suddenly above all other common cuts. Oh maybe it won’t just everything will get expensive… No, I don’t think so. People would be too displeased.
By the way, people totally overreact things. Yes, we have unusually high inflation and we always had a serious one. If I remember the few prices from my childhood, I can see that we pay 100-200 times as much for them. And now there’s war. Climate change. And farmers don’t use irrigation and it doesn’t suit our months long draughts.
But people still comment that oh these prices (they always include gas and electricity too and most people pay the same for them. but people act like we can’t afford anything), it’s a miracle if someone still can cook. They totally overreact. Maybe they just joke, I saw these on a fun site (I never meet Hungarians elsewhere except my close family, it’s only 2 FB groups) but it still can be annoying.
But yep, prices got a bit crazy. Could be way worse, sometimes I wonder how on Earth could people live and function in the times when prices just doubled every day or something. The bills got more and more zeros rapidly… It must be HELLISH. And it wasn’t their only problem, it was somewhere around world wars I suppose. Okay, THAT was something over 9000, it’s fine to be sad about what we have now as it’s quite serious but even our eating isn’t in danger yet.
Mmmmm… Good luck!
I don’t even know what halibut is
I never met one.
Btw I saw mussels in the supermarket. But only a whole kg, I don’t like it that much… It wasn’t expensive but it’s just mussels… Why can’t we have pickled ones here? Maybe we have it in a hidden corner of a hypermarket? Next time I will check!
And I will buy some mixed seafood for Christmas. And some fish if my fishy phase last until then… Some new species we never tried.
