Carnivore ZC SurfTurf-tember! 30-day September Challenge. 2022

@shanita I love you being here. I love that sometimes you write as though you are confused (generally putting that down to translation) and like me when I feel the need to reply i too need a few days to get my thoughts together as I can have quite mixed up thoughts and feelings. You are certainly not a horrible person, please you must learn to love yourself, you have so much to offer in life and on these forums. You have your struggles with food as we all do and we can all learn from each other. Life would be awful if we were all the same… who the heck would we learn from? So keep posting as you do xxxā¤

you heading back to VA and living there til Nov?

tell me, how was your ā€˜strolling gig’ at the seafood place? If I was playing and SAW all that great seafood like crab legs and scallops I wouldn’t concentrate on playing, just eating HAHA I don’t know how you ā€˜fair well’ thru the sight and smell of seafood on plates…I admire you girl!!!

---------------got 12 NY strip steaks on sale. ā€˜seem’ like ok ones but I tell ya the ā€˜cuts coming in packages’ ain’t up to my snuff but I can inhale a less than stellar one at a good price and still be OK  :sunny:

My sardines did a big hike. double price. what was like $2 a can is NOW $4 a tin. come on ya know. that is MY dessert LOL but I also see sugar crap processed rising so much that I guess my sardines are gonna have to be in my grocery buy cause I rely on them ā€˜when I require them’ so yea, pay the piper, grin hard, but KNOW I AM NOT paying for med services thru ill health thru food…I must keep that mind to even accept these price increases!!

NY Strip steak
last leftover chick I didn’t eat yesterday
got 1 little measily leftover country pork rib will eat

today ā€˜feels like scrap day’:100:

(Karen) #184

Had a late-ish brunch and now kitty sitting. :slightly_smiling_face:

these were lovely, buffalo wings from lidl. Wasnt on the menu today but when I checked the dates they were todays date and the 2nd of 2 packs was dated 16th. They needed to be eaten, oh how hard that was  did them a little longer than instructed because I was reading my fabulous book and time flew by but that just made the skins more crispy and didn’t dry out the chicken so win win.

(Vic) #185

First meal today, for lunch I had a pack of ground beef, reading the smallprint turned out to be 64% beef and the rest was soy proteins:-(

Although I do allow some carbs a week, this was to much, cound’t eat that crap.

(Linda ) #186

The reason is the carbs from animals such as liver is from glycogen (stored in muscles and tissue) and the carbs from dairy is lactose which when it’s fermented most is eaten up in the process… where as the carbs from fruit and vegetables is glucose and fructose.
Interesting question was interested in the answer.
I dont think anyone here thinks anything bad about you Shanita… Just some struggle with the talk of non carni foods.

Todays morning blood sugar was 94 interesting its up slightly… As last night was my first night at home alone with animals again…My husband is off in oklahoma in a trucking orientation and hopefully moving on to 3 weeks training in driving a semi for a trucking company…he has recently sat and passed his cdl so stepping it up from his f250 into a semi truck…

Todays eats flanken ribs butter and goat cheese and coffee…

(Karen) #187

Why would anyone mix beef and soy proteins? Thers plenty protein in the beef alone!

(Karen) #188

Dinner was 2 rump steaks seared on one side and smoked streaky bacon … using up the last rashers from the farm shop, they’re far too thick and too salty but I ate them so as not to waste. Had to put some grissly bits of rump back in pan to cook longer as I couldn’t even get my fork to pierce the grissle!

#189

I just can’t stay away… But I try to be super quick! (Of course I failed.) My number #2 carnivore-ish dinner OMAD day is done, it seems 100g protein was enough… If I can track remotely accurately that part…
I miss my appetite, it was such a chore to eat without any, I couldn’t have done it in a short time but one hour was enough to consume enough food.
But I better take a break from pork (the same item rapidly lost its charm as days passed), tomorrow is mostly chicken, eggs and dairy day!
And it’s a sure thing we will have our city shopping (shorter than usual as it’s just an afternoon pop in with lawyer visit, this one works quick unlike the previous one) on Wednesday! Meat prices are still great, cheese got pricey (all of them), no idea about the other dairy items, they aren’t on sale. Price cap on pork thigh/butts nears the end but it’s still present, I wonder how I will eat when it’s over, I probably won’t resist the siren song of the fatty cuts (I mean, I mostly will eat those for meat as I eat them regularly anyway as I love them too) but fattier meat probably suits OMAD better. It will be fine.
And I have heard things about supermarket egg prices, I am curious if they are really that bad. The greengrocery prices are okay, only double of the prices half a year ago…? I am bad with time and sometimes numbers too. For Hungary, next to a war and having serious agricultural problems due to lack of irrigation (they REALLY should realize ā€œnobleā€ plants can’t work without water for months… climate change arrived. ragweeds had their time of life though and it continues, they go strong now and poor Alvaro has a mild allergy to them. it’s nothing almost all year but now he felt it when he tried to sleep but his nose was stuffed. it could be way worse, we literally live next to a field of them and they are everywhere when walking or cycling too and we both do that every day).

@JJFiddle: Oh, not weak as sick, I am fine since long but my weighlifting doesn’t go nearly as well as I would like… It’s normal to me, sadly, I keep using the same weights for very long, sometimes I skip 1-2 or more workouts for some reason and need to use smaller weights again… ONCE, not even in the beginning I had some glorious month when I improved a lot and changed my weights every time…

@Karen18: You are such a dear… :flushed: My relation with myself is complicated, I am extremely self-critical but I want good things for myself despite everything. My inner selves are in harmony, kind of. I know people with self-hate, that must be absolutely awful. I am nothing like that. It’s not hedonistic.
And I have TOO MANY struggles. It’s boring and disappointing. But hopefully it gets better now. I do have wonderful chill times. And then I get bored of my food but I will make sure I will have a proper variety even if my silly optimistic self thinks it’s not necessarily. I learned my lesson regarding meat before, now it’s about dairy.

Most of my dinner today (some eggs are missing and I didn’t eat all the quark. it’s hard to eat it without its mate, sour cream):

I don’t remember if I wrote before but surely not that pork is good with mustard sauce too. Yolk and mustard, I stopped putting butter into it as it started to run out and Alvaro needs it more.

We found someone with hens again, selling small eggs. M, he said. I can’t imagine how S eggs look like then, these were tiny! But I am used to the average, XL ones… The egg lady always sell that size except when they are a bit smaller or bigger. But the vast majority weigh 52g without shell. The same for greengrocery eggs but they are always that size, no huge or small ones happen or just super rarely. That is the normal size everywhere here. A farmer’s market had 3 different sizes, that was different. But I never saw S eggs. The new egg seller has them as his hens are young but they use it up themselves.
The price is normal too, way less than the greengrocery eggs but the eggs are way smaller too. I measured them. They would be a tad pricier just looking at the weight… But they have bigger yolks proportionally, it’s normal, I always found smaller eggs having bigger yolks proportionally. But they vary and I won’t measure them all out of curiosity. Maybe next time the eggs will be a bit bigger as the chickens grow up (they are adult sized but egg production follows a different logic) but he probably will raise the prices too then. We will see. The greengrocery never lacks eggs (we buy 90 at a time and it’s never a problem) but it’s still good to have other options.

They look even more fabulous than usual… Those colors!!! And they do look nice to eat too…
When in doubt, I always cook/fry/roast things longer… Especially when chicken skin destined to be super crispy is present. That I never ever managed to make crispy without getting them off and frying separately… But I use legs so it’s different.

And is it legal to put it only in the smallprint…? :frowning:

Profit.

But why would anyone mix (sorry for the non-carni stuff) sugar and sweeteners? It’s the worst from both worlds! Actually, soy and beef is similar, one puts off certain groups, the other some other groups and it just doesn’t make any sense. But it really gets cheaper so maybe they think they can pull it off targeting less choosy people…?
(My. Beloved. Pickled. Herring!!! It has both and it’s not even sweet food :frowning: It’s an insult to herrings and me.)

And why to put coloring into something not colorful in the end either? Or drinks drank from a non-transparent little container? I saw coloring in odd places before.

#190

Indeed, they probably becomes something different… I will look it up if I won’t forget, I am bad with Chemistry but maybe I will understand something!

Plant carbs in tiny amounts aren’t a concern to me either way but it’s good to know that lactose is better, I can get pretty much of that sometimes… I never was sure about lactose. Sometimes it felt off a bit but then I drank a liter of milk and nothing so I can’t be even remotely sensitive to lactose… And as most dairy doesn’t satiate me well, I use them in moderation so never could figure out if the lactose in them interferes or not. I am sure liver and egg sugars are fine as I eat them often in significant amounts and I always felt the same as with almost no carbs. Lactose was the mystery.

(Linda ) #191

I was just reading a carnivore board and saw this … might help you out for you boredom

(Daisy) #192

Had planned on a 72 hour fast, but my body said otherwise and I cut it at 24. Had some delicious egg bites I picked up on markdown this morning (with butter and goat cheese) and a couple hours later had half a New York strip and some raw beef fat.

Thanks but it’s very much not my style, most of the ingredients are out, it’s too complicated and waaaaay too cheesy to me, super expensive too and eggs don’t have a main role either
I never will buy pork rinds, they cost as much as gold or they could do as far as I am concerned and don’t seem tempting anyway. Only saw them in one shop in my life.

I have enough recipes (and could make new ones any day) but I still need a bucket of sour cream asap… Egg and meat still stays egg and meat, no matter what I do with them. I use various animals and organs but it’s still not enough for long.
I prefer 1-2 ingredient things, I am glad not to overcomplicate my recipe making anymore (unless on my off days or when I bake something for Alvaro). When I tried to make egg white not-breads, I had 10-12 different buns in the oven! I stopped that quickly, my one ingredient sponge cakes are better.

But now I have zero boredom. I have hunger, very soft but insistent, more like lack of satiation but the type I can’t fall asleep with easily. RIP my OMAD day #2. I got hungry and ate eggs with some ham spread after midnight, that felt nice and no problem the next morning either.
So keeping my protein lower than 120g didn’t end well but of course I will continue my experiments as it was only one day (I experienced this many times but not when I tried to do OMAD).
Maybe it’s not the protein but the amount of meat played a role too… So, so many things to try in September.

(Karen) #194

@Shinita may not want to make this but I have to admit it appeals to me! I would only put the meat in it though and probably add some extra different kinds of meat making it a multi meat pie  I think I would slow cook some braising steak, pork belly and lamb then use the fatty juice to keep it moist in pie and add some cooked chicken or turkey … endless variations! :grinning:

#195

a shopper after my own heart :sunny:
I love hitting a good markdown!

Your puppy is adorable and I don’t think that poochie can take a bad pic! Now I am wanting a puppy…well want only cause yours is so cute. No more dogs for me for a while tho. Kid to college travel is gonna become my focus and will be nice to be petless when I start more travel for a while.

----------------got a NY Strip steak for later. Second meal I think just chicken. Woke up with no food calling my name really. Kinda that just eat whatever day and don’t worry about it. I like those days.

Simplest zc is best for me at all times. More I ā€˜get involved’ with food the worse I do. Of course that is why I SO try to control the family meals with super ease and they are finally more on board with that…so I won in that realm of changing them over to alot of meat and a small side. No more fancy smachy ever type cooking for this ol’ gal. lol.

ZC strong guys…amost 1/2 way thru the month and then we got Oct looming in on us. Time sure does fly it seems for me. Air had a ā€˜nip’ in it, more like that CHILL nip ya know…boo…precious summer is wanting to leave.

(Judy Thompson) #196

@Fangs did Bolt pass and did I miss that, or forget?

Just wondering. If so, condolences! You’ve been through a lot with him lately.
On seafood: yes, it’s beautiful and the presentation is amazing. I’ll take some pics for you tomorrow night. But I’ve played in restaurants for nearly 50 years! Can’t believe it. By now it is just art :art:

@Azi Crazy recupe. Oddly enough I’ve made stuff with pork rinds - chaffles, pizza dough - hubby likes it but to me it’s heavy and salty and not worth the bother.
@Shinita interesting commentary on egg sizes. Recently I wanted to make deviled eggs for a gathering I attended and asked for medium eggs but there are no longer medium eggs at the store! The guy said his L and XL now. Dad used to raise quail, the eggs were so cute. But no more.

Yesterday morning I put 3 packaged rib eyes in sous vide @129° for a couple hours. Hubby heated up the charcoal and seared them, and I added a couple deviled eggs to the plate (large).

Lastnight I threw a frozen lb pkg of grassfed beef in the sous vide at 100° while we sat on the deck, then ate half of it raw and warm with real salt. Best easy meal! Sinky food

Today will be long. Hubby and I play 12-4 at the winery for an Air Force graduation (just our duo) then to Luckenbach pickers circle another 4 hours. Poor puppy, at home alone.

no he ain’t dead just yet LOL
yea he has this seizure med issue but seems very stable. he is 12 now, not sure how much longer but once he is gone I won’t be ā€˜doggin’ up’ again til I know where I land, cause travel and he comes with us now means alot of work for his safety etc and I want freedom, yea I mighta made it sound like he is gone but he ain’t HA

image000000%20(23)

here he is still kickin’

see that tongue? That is seizure dog tongue. Since he started those his tongue is almost always like that…see dogs with this type of issue you can kinda know they are seizure med dogs. He never had tongue out til like 3 yrs ago when this started happening to him. Meds he is on are toughies so I know they are gonna cut down his longevity cause vet said it will go down that way. Don’t worry ever on Bolt, thing has lived so well and great and he has all good days to come just cause I swear the dog lives better than me HAHA

would love to see your work restaurant for sure! appreciate any pics, I love seeing how one works and more.

I have read back…

Oh I can relate so, so, so much
Freshly made pork can be pretty irresistible to me as well.

Exactly. Communication is important!
I say my things back and as long as I am not unjustly attacked (I hate that and had it enough on worse forums. not a lot but I prefer zero) or even if I do but it can get solved by talking, all is well enough
I remember when Fangs had problems with me in the very beginning  I already forgot what happened but she is such a very enthusiastic, chill and welcoming person that even my special sensitive self couldn’t have problems. Well, she is the one who knows how to communicate  Yay for our beloved kind of leader here!

@Ketodaisy: Oh, best wishes for you and the new fluffball girl too! So adorable :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I hope I never will have problems with any items. At least not the ones I still like… It will be interesting to see what will happen when I finally can do carnivore months… I am not among the ones who are afraid losing the ability to eat things, I am looking forward to figure things out.
Ages ago when carnivore was some extreme weird thing to me (no judge or anything but it seemed infinitely far from me) I thought (because of something I read I suppose, I don’t invent things without any base. I may extrapolate or have hypotheses and they may be wrong of course but I base it on something. I had no knowledge about the human body on carnivore at that time) that with only animal items, the gut biome totally changes and plants become impossible to digest, it can change back but it takes some uncomfortable time. It seems it’s not that simple so I don’t think so now. But I still know very little about it.
But some people are super sensitive and can’t even touch tiny amounts of innocent looking items without negative consequences, it’s quite odd to me that it’s so very common…

What weird spoiled creature is he that he says NO to some meat? Never saw that from my animals! The same with eggs. EXCEPT when my bicycle dropped with 60 eggs in its basket (I thought it will be okay as it usually is when its basket isn’t too heavy), some eggs broke (only a few was lost, thankfully. more like one and 3 tiny whites) and we brought Pie and she barely licked up some of it… Maybe the basket and the grass bothered her, who knows? Normally they adore proper food. I can’t be amazed enough when they eat up many little bones, sinew, very hard parts and even something that is mostly tallow… Even if I would be willing to eat tallow, I couldn’t eat it alone but the cats have no such problems. It’s something from an animal? It’s good then. Of course they all adore sour cream. Apparently no cats of ours is lactose intolerant at the moment. And for many, many years I hope. They are all young enough, 7, 4, 1 years old I think. And all are good at hunting mice and voles.

@FrankoBear: You have some interesting pretty flowers there I never saw…!

Weather is nice now, sunny and 24C.

And I read back completely. Yay!
Meanwhile Alvaro came home but I ate so much before (my hunger continued… it’s a bit crazy… I don’t want dairy now, I want meat. ZERO problem with pork at the moment) I take a break right now. Maybe later I eat one of the chicken legs I roasted with some mexican spice as it’s just chicken, it needs some strong spice.
So I have an unusual strong example of my meaty high-cal days. I get these when I neglect meat a little. It’s not like I stopped eating meat though and I ate pretty much just a few days ago… And I have my eggs… No idea why my body has such a sharp ā€œattitude changesā€ sometimes. I just roll with it, I always have some kind of meat at hand nowadays. But it’s quite tiresome when I am this hungry. And I don’t feel I made some horrible mistake this time. But fine, I get my leaner pork tomorrow and will make sure to eat a pound of it every day… Or replace it with some other meat.

Today I ate up my almost 70/30 fried pork (yummy this time) and a few eggs, some sponge cake s with the leftover ham spread. It was good and now I can rest in peace. Btw, Halloween months are coming! October and November. Every day is Halloween to me if I want to, it’s my year long holiday but October and November are even more so. I mean business this year and make little tombstones and whatnot. I need to paint the poor frog on my terrace already. There is a primer Alvaro used on Yardis (his tiny Yaris that is bigger on the inside :D), I can use that first and then… We will see. But I want a Halloween frog. I have bones and a skeleton… Zillion big spiders too, of course, I keep them on the windows and at other places since years. Spiders are fun and impossible to get bored of. Just like skulls but skulls are pretty too. Some spiders are pretty but not the big black plastic ones. I have a plushie… I forgot the name, it’s a super kawaii jumping frog, animated, having a kid’s voice? His name is on my tongue but nope, I don’t remember. I have a plushie of him. That is cute. Jumping spiders are very cute anyway.
I watched many Halloween videos lately, some involved food (oh I know what I will do with the jar of black olives… I used to make spiders from them but I forgot but there were other ideas) and some of them are even a good idea to make as it’s mostly artistic work (or bread making that I do for Alvaro every week anyway), no sugar and Alvaro can eat them. But I went to the non-edible permanent things. I am not into pumpkins but even they can be made nicely without too much work. I am not a carver, I don’t even have proper tools for it.

But it’s only mid-September, almost summer…
But mornings can be 9C now!!! I am sleeping when it’s that early so I don’t notice it and when I walk, I always regret if I wear a short sleeved t-shirt… Too hot.

Oh yes, they are adorable  Not only tiny but so prettily spotted too! A work of art, every quail egg! The birds look lovely too.

#199

Hey hey, I agree, we sure did have ā€˜our times’ in the old days.

but I am not a kinda leader here and I kinda don’t want that status truly :sunny: I am just part of this thread and just happen to be a longer carnivore than others but darn the ā€˜new like yr and more carni people’ ain’t smart as whips on this plan and even our newest people on plan are coming into the lifestyle with so much great knowledge and understanding that is a breath of fresh air that the ZC info IS out and getting to all. We are finding great truths on this lifestyle. I also love that we all get each other about the carni lifestyle and experiences and knowledge equals us in the thread…means alot to me we have great chats.

I am a blabber mouth on the zc lifestyle and sure send out posts about it and how great it has been for me…so I am just part of the group and want no extra crap thrown on me LOL I can’t live up to anything like that and don’t want too…just me and you chatting and finding our way on an internet forum ya know. We came a long way for sure!

but yea girl, me and you had words TIL I FINALLY figured you out a bit more!! I thought it was more you couldn’t commit to ZC and not even try to work it differently for you even tho you wanted this lifestyle but then I realized you are on ā€˜on a journey toward zc’ and not there yet and kinda didn’t wanna jump right in cause it didn’t suit you. Then I started to figure out your posts more LOL

it is communication but you are sure a solid part of this ol’ thread that has been going on for years now and that is a great thing. Love reading your lifestyle with Alvaro and how your life goes down and are kind enough to share it all with us!

It is all good on our thread S for all of us I think!!

(Linda ) #200

breakfast 1 flanken rib, goats cheese, sheep’s cheese, and butter

#201

Yeah, I just didn’t find a better word, I did include ā€œkind ofā€ before it to make it softer a bit
It’s just said in a playful sense. You started these threads and you have a special role in them, hence the ā€œleadershipā€ You are a veteran too…

And me… and carnivore… That’s complicated a bit. I really do my best quite often but my best can’t amount to much from some of your viewpoint I guess. I have my limits though I keep pushing on them. I feel how much I actually do and how much I changed and evolved… But I am still lacking I know. But I don’t give up  I am almost pleased with what I have when I am well supplied.

Meanwhile I had my chicken leg, it felt like a little snack… But hopefully stuffed the greedy mouth of my meat hunger for now! It was surprisingly good. Not substantial but good.

Now that I ate almost enough, I do fancy some dessert. I miss my sour cream a bit but I eat my little leftover quark instead.

EDIT: I tracked my day including the after midnight eating I normally track for the previous day.
210g protein, 250g fat in 3 meals. Over 10 eggs and around 800g meat…? I could eat more but I don’t need it.
IDK what is this but sometimes my body wants more food specifically meat. And now I had enough and the appetite for it too.
