Can anyone relate?

Hi all! So I’ve been keto since the end of December 2018. Prior to starting keto I was on a low calorie diet and lost 60lbs. Because this diet was very low calorie and because I was on this diet for 1.5 years I feel like my body and metabolism are in need of repair. Since being on keto I have not lost a single pound. I have lost a bit off my waist and other parts of my body when I measure. I also feel good and committed to keto. I realize that my body needs to heal from the dieting I put it through before the scale will move.

I think that I am eating correct macros. 5 % carbs , 70 % fat and 25% protein. I eat around 1400 calories a day.

I am wondering if, because of what I put my body through with calorie restriction, should I increase my calories ? I feel like I am healing and accept the pace my body is healing at. I guess I am curious if anyone has has a similar situation, transitioning from a restriction diet to keto.

Thanks in advance for anything you may be able to share with me. :+1:

Don’t count calories, count carbs. Less than 20g a day, and eat fat and protein to satiety. It’s that simple

If you can, I recommend getting a DEXA scan and RMR test. You can get them for $75 each on Groupon.

Also, consider a Keto/glucose blood test kit $100 Amazon. If would help to know what your starting position is.

Keep in mind that weight is a function of many variables… water weight, food flux, stress, sleep… weight is not meaningful on its own.

The best repair for metabolism is to eat MORE and walk / exercise more too.

I’d recommend keeping carbs under 20g and listening to your body about how much to eat… not a fixed number. Have you considered doing intermittent fasting? 16/8 or something similar?

Carbs below 20g and eat as much protein and fat as you need to not be hungry. Do not limit calories at all. 1400 is still low and your body needs nourishment in order to heal itself.

Use if fasting and feasting are the best ways to repair a lower metabolic rate. I am not sure how you feel about working out. High intensity interval training or weight training are other ways to help stoke those fires. From my experience at least.

Groupon for a DEXA? where?

Start with the simple. You already know that your waist shrinks despite weight “stall”. No scans needed. Carbs under 20 g = ketosis, so no need for strips unless you really want them.

Give your body one month of eating whatever it wants. You are likely pretty well adapted already, as changes have happened. Now you should let your body experience getting as much as it wants. This might become overeating some days or undereating on other days. But just try letting you iwn body decide for you. Give in to any keto cravings (salt, fat, different meats, different vegetables), and feel what it does to you. Weight might be gained, but that might just as well be healing weight, which will drop naturally when you have learned a suitable appetite.

What @Shortstuff, @MdmButterfly and @Taka said I agree with. No testing or scans are needed. Just stay with things, eat adequately to not feel hungry for now. @stokiesgoneketo also gave a good suggestion about IF and some weight training (maybe three short sessions per week? if you can swing it. There’s always old school isometric and push ups and such if you don’t have gym or weights access. I would also suggest looking at your food choices, not your macros. Too many nuts or too much dairy can also be a factor. I eat a significant percentage of fermented vegetables along with fresh ones and when I started making and eating fermented foods it gave my digestion a boost and that stimulated my weight loss as well I believe. I also tweaked my overconsumption of protein (habit) down a tad and that naturally increased the ratio of protein to fat so any of these things can help maybe. It always helps to step back and try to look at yourself objectively to gain insight. :cowboy_hat_face:

Nope, but looks like groupon wants you to know about their ED options, lololololol!

Thanks everyone for your comments !! I should add I currently IF 18/6 and do 2MAD. I don’t eat a lot of dairy, but it did cross my mind to eliminate it and see if the little I eat is impacting me.

I would like to include some strength training and more exercise, that is definitely a goal.

I think I will try not counting anything but my carbs and try to eat until I feel satisfied. My diet mindset (and years of unhealthy/disordered eating) takes hold and wants to implement strict rules. I should try to just keto on and trust the process.

Again, thanks for the feedback!
