Caffeine without coffee

caffeine

(Mark Kenyon II) #1

So, I have a love/hate relationship with Coffee. I love it, but it hate’s my intestines.

With that said, I could sure use a caffeine boost this afternoon. Tea usually doesn’t do it. I don’t want to do those sugary energy drinks.

Any idea how to get good keto safe caffeine without coffee?

I drink green tea because coffee also hates my intestines.

I can have a coffee once or twice a week, just one cup and I’m OK but anything regular and things will kick off.

I also have some 100% caffeine pills when I need to be “coffee” awake but can’t drink 10 cups of green tea!

If you are fat adapted, I recommend some coconut oil or MCT oil for quick energy. Anyway it works for me even more than caffeine now.

Rockstar has zero carb energy drinks. Blue can is sweetened with sucralose I think. They have at least 3 different kinds that are sweetened with Erithritol also. Red can and two different white cans. These four energy drinks were my favorite before deciding 4-6 cans a day might be a bit much. Now I have 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning and end caffeine intake by noon.

I have caffeine tablets for emergency use but can’t actually remember the last time I took one

I would try mct oil over caffeine, moderation with caffeine is okay.

Just watch because most of them have hidden sweeteners like acesulfame potassium which is sweetner that can spike insulin a lot. YMMV

At 6ft and 143lbs, I appreciate but do not need advice. Thanks though.

(Ashley) #9

I was just making you aware there are hidden sweeteners. Also I did say YMMV. It may not affect you but does others. Was just commenting on the energy drinks because for a lot of people it spikes insulin which can pull people out of a fasted state per evidence from Dr Berg and Dr Fung

I work IT, but don’t speak XYZPDQ like you kids. I’d have to google YMMV and would rather thank you for your advice while politely telling you I don’t need it than take the time to figure out what that means. :joy:

(Ashley) #11

Oh no worries, it means your mileage may vary lol, I was more so just commenting on it as a “buyer be aware” to people who might give them a go for energy.

I’m one of those weird people who can drink multiple cans of energy drinks and go straight to sleep afterward, caffeine doesn’t seem to have any effect on me except to give me a nasty headache when I don’t have it.

(Lonnie Hedley) #13

That was me when I was drinking 4-6 cans daily. Not that my sleep was bad, but I cut caffeine by noon in an attempt to make my sleep as good as it possibly can be. Although I kinda miss waking up in the morning with half a can next to the bed as a little pick me up.

I have found that I am able to have no caff energy if I skip out on the caff for several weeks. I don’t recommend the process lightly, as it is HARD. It’s worth doing, but doesn’t fix you today.

You might try cold brew coffee. Cold process prevents some of the things that bother people with hot process coffee. Cold brew is not iced coffee (in before someone says that adding ice to hot coffee is not a material change). Matcha green tea would be another way to get there, as it’s a lot denser in everything that normal green tea.

Nothing is really as caff dense as coffee without going energy drink. I guess if you were in the area I could flip you an amphetamine salt (I’m JOKING… that’s a felony).

the MCT might work well for you, but small dosing.

I used to drink it all evening when I worked the late shift as a delivery driver, then go home and go straight to sleep. Now I can drink three SF Monster (white can) in a row and feel nothing at all… haven’t bothered buying it for a few months now.

(Lonnie Hedley) #16

Coffee is free at work so I cut the energy drinks a long time ago but I was drinking tons of free coffee. Cutting the caffeine by noon may be more about self control than actually cutting out caffeine early in the day.

Caffeine can read havoc on adrenals - but I enjoy some amount in the AM - it helps me with energy and mood. But when I make an effort to get a brisk 10-15 minute walk in it can naturally push endorphins!

(Karl) #18

And you can usually get 2 cans for $3 at 7-11! (a whole dollar cheaper than the 2/$4 monster ultras)

Always found really good deals on Rockstar when I was drinking them.

Keto Connect uses Zipfizz. I have not used it, so I cannot give you any opinion on it. I believe it has caffeine and vitamins and minerals.
