My grandmother always had this dish on her kitchen table. Ever since going on Keto and becoming a butterholic, I had to order my own. I have soft Kerrygold ready at all times. I am not sure why the water is in the bottom but it is the one she used and you always trust grandma right?
Butter Dish
I donât know the purpose of the water either? 8 oz of butter doesnât last long enough around here to go rancid thatâs for certain.
I reckon it might be an airlock to prevent oxidation.
I have one of these which does a similar job,
I never knew about butter dishes or keeping butter âoutâ until I was a young adult. Growing up, we only used sweet (unsalted) butter and it was kept in the refrigerator or freezer. Even with the salted butter I buy now, I keep it in the fridge. Old habits die hard.
@richard @carl This reminds me. I know nothing about website affiliations, but it seems like an AMAZON affiliation tab could be a viable monetary stream to help keep the forum afloat, put a little coal on the fire so to say.
I donât know much about Amazon affiliation - but weâll look into it
I think the water is supposed to act as a seal to keep out mold and other nasties. But I had a âbutter bellâ and ended up with moldy butter. Iâm not sure if the water made things worse or if we just ate the butter too slowly (would not be an issue now!).
Yes, to this. Iâve already committed my Amazon affiliation but have been thisclose to giving Butcher Box a try and Iâd use a 2Dudes affiliation code for sure.
ooh, the one @richard has matches my coffee cups!
