Butter Dish

(Stephanie Pratt) #1

My grandmother always had this dish on her kitchen table. Ever since going on Keto and becoming a butterholic, I had to order my own. I have soft Kerrygold ready at all times. I am not sure why the water is in the bottom but it is the one she used and you always trust grandma right?

I don’t know the purpose of the water either? 8 oz of butter doesn’t last long enough around here to go rancid that’s for certain.

I reckon it might be an airlock to prevent oxidation.

I have one of these which does a similar job,

I never knew about butter dishes or keeping butter ‘out’ until I was a young adult. Growing up, we only used sweet (unsalted) butter and it was kept in the refrigerator or freezer. Even with the salted butter I buy now, I keep it in the fridge. Old habits die hard.

I have some in the fridge too. I have it everywhere!! haha

(Terri) #6

Damn, now I know what I want for Xmas!

(Guardian of the bacon) #7

That’s a ways off now.

(Terri) #8

IKR? Wish I had seen this kitchen item a few weeks ago when needing to give ideas!

Nobody gave you an amazon gift card? Shame on them…:smiling_imp:

Treat yourself!

#11

No need to spend that much:

(Terri) #12

Oooohhhh… aaaahhhh…

Switches over to Amazon app!

(Guardian of the bacon) #13

@richard @carl This reminds me. I know nothing about website affiliations, but it seems like an AMAZON affiliation tab could be a viable monetary stream to help keep the forum afloat, put a little coal on the fire so to say.

(Richard Morris) #14

I don’t know much about Amazon affiliation - but we’ll look into it

(Terri) #15

And Butcher Box…

(AnnaLeeThal) #16

That is the one I got for Christmas!

(jketoscribe) #17

I think the water is supposed to act as a seal to keep out mold and other nasties. But I had a “butter bell” and ended up with moldy butter. I’m not sure if the water made things worse or if we just ate the butter too slowly (would not be an issue now!). :smirk:

Yes, to this. I’ve already committed my Amazon affiliation but have been thisclose to giving Butcher Box a try and I’d use a 2Dudes affiliation code for sure.

(Genevieve Biggs) #19

My butter doesn’t last long enough to go bad. :joy:

(No I'm not mad - that's just my face) #20

ooh, the one @richard has matches my coffee cups!
