Bulletproof coffee stopping fasting

(Cesar luis) #1

Hi, I am doing intermittent fasting 20/4 but in the morning 8 a.m) I get all my supplements (fish oil, vitamins, broth) and a coffee with coconut oil and cream. then I don’t eat anything till 4 pm. Am I loosing the benefits of fasting? It is difficult to eat much only during 4 hours so I only get around 1.600 calories but I am 1.70cm and 79 kilograms and I train every day for un hour (30 minutes cardio/30 minutes weights) Though I am loosing size I am not loosing any weigh. Am I doing something wrong? I have been doing less than 20 grams of carb for 3 months but my breath analyser doesn’t show any ketosis. I am coming for a long life of diets as I was once obese.
Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help.

Depends on your reasons for fasting.

I am trying to loose around 8 kg.

I go by the rule that anything higher than 50 calories is a no go for fasting. Actually, I stick to 20, but an article I read on it said 50.

would it be better not to have anything with my coffee ? what do you thing of my calories and my macros?

(Dom DePlume) #6

Nobody can really comment on your macros until you tell us about your fat and protein numbers. Aside from your coffee, what’s a typical day of eating look like for you? I doubt the coffee is keeping you out of ketosis: I suspect your F/P macros are.

I eat 75 percent fat, 20 percent protein and 5 percent carbs 22gr. 1750 calories is what I have in myfitness pal. I do not feel hungry and I feel good energy for training and etc but I don’t really know if I am in ketosis or not.

carbs 200 grams of spinach, 1 advocado, 2 squares of 85 percent of dark chocolate. Almost every day.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #9

Up abouve you said 1600. Here 1750. So these are MFP goals but you aren’t typically making them, right?
So what do you typically hit for fat and protein?

(Cesar luis) #10

almost, some grams short sometimes.

(Dom DePlume) #11

Is that dark chocolate sugar-free? (sweetened with stevia? Erythritol?) Does it have moltitol in it?

Your carb number should be a hard-and-fast 20 GRAMS, not a floating 5%. Being above 20g at all may keep you out of ketosis, depending on your metabolism…

(Cesar luis) #12

lindt excellence 85 percent chocolate

(Cesar luis) #13

some brazil nuts also

(Allie) #14

Which contains a small amount of sugar; I use it too.

(Dom DePlume) #15

Okay…

That has actual sugar in it. And no, it’s not a “small amount”. 4 squares (1 serving) has 9g net carbs, and 6 solid grams of straight-up sugar. Even if you only had ONE square a day, that’s STILL 1.5g straight sugar. At one serving of the chocolate, you might as well eat just shy of two plain-old sugar cubes. Depending on your metabolism, that right there may be enough to keep you out of effective ketosis (and I’d put money on it). Remember: ketogenesis is established by a control of INSULIN. Constantly dumping straight fructose into your system daily (even if it technically fits your macros) is more than likely enough to keep you from ever getting fully into ketosis.

Try and find Lily’s chocolate. It’s wonderful stuff, and fully keto safe, or look into making your own. Steer clear of anything sugar free that has moltitol, dextrose, or anything “-rose”, as they all provoke an insulin response.

I am in the uk

Regardless, what you’re eating is SUGAR, and it’s likely sabotaging your efforts.

(Allie) #18

The whole bar contains 19g net carbs and there are ten squares to a bar, so four squares would be 7.6g net carbs…
