Bulletproof coffee or what else

You need a decent blitzer to get good emulsification of the fat. I used to use one of those little coffee frothers that takes two AA batteries and, although it worked OK after lots and lots of “frothing”, it wasn’t until I made my BPC in a bullet blender (plugs into the wall and uses about 800W of power) did my BPC really become enjoyable.

yeah I use something similar, only takes a few seconds for maximum froth

( except no sweetness  )

Unfortunately when you are used to having a sweet creamer you are just going to have a hard time finding anything that lives up to that. Over time though as you get used to less and less sweet things it will get better. If you can use a sugar free creamer try that. I’m pretty sensitive to artificial sweeteners and I’m allergic to Stevia so I had a really hard time in the beginning. Now I like black coffee with heavy cream and when I accidentally got a sweetened coffee the other day it was so sweet I almost couldn’t stand it!

A stick blender means your lips will stay shiny as long as there’s coffee in your mug. :smiling_imp:

I drink BPC every morning and love it! I honestly used to hate coffee, even the smell of it. I actually look forward to my BPC every morning now!

I wrote this up a while back, and I think you might find the variations helpful.

Enjoy!

Have also in the past added a Tbsp. of mascarpone, but you have to blend really well with a hand blender or frother, but it does give that latte type of quality.

Let’s not forget that pinch of salt that makes all the difference

I found several options that I like to mix in my coffee on Keto. These are Just ingredients I interchange and mix in different variations. I use unsweetened coconutmilk, cinnamon, organic stevia, erythritol, lakanto,Maca root powder, adaptagenic mushroom powders, MCT oil powder or a premium organic coconut oil. I try to keep it as natural as possible. Hope that will help ya. I Love coffee too

I kinda like the buttery oil slick.

When I first started LCHF-ing 12 years ago, I used to use double cream, but now I used coconut oil.

However, I object to calling it Bullet-Proof-Coffee. It wasn’t invented by David Asprey in the 2010’s it was invented by Homer Simpson in the 90’s!! hahah. I used to have the sound clip on my old Nokia 3310 for text messages. (From Season 9 of the Simpsons).

Homer: Oh Marge, how could you let me let myself go like this?

Marge: Me? I’m not the one who puts butter in your coffee.

:joy::rofl::joy::rofl::grin::joy::rofl:

I used to feel the same way and am also picky about my coffee, but I was having trouble consuming enough fat. So, one morning I decided to give it a try and found a recipe that included 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. I used my milk frother to emulsify the three together and found the combination rather delicious and very satisfying.

Today has been exactly a week since starting for me. Before starting, when I was doing research and reading up on Keto, I came across info about the coffee and was like wow, that sounds good! BUT, after having tried it the first three days I can say that I HATE IT. Just don’t like the taste and more importantly, the way it makes the back of my throat feel. It’s weird. Almost like an allergic reaction that keeps me coughing the entire way through the coffee. Strange as I know I have no allergy to any of the ingredients.

Also, when I did it, I put nothing else in it but the butter and coconut oil. Thought that was all that should go in it. But now that I see people are adding sweeteners, cream and sugar free syrups, I may be willing to give it another try. Maybe that will help with the taste?

It’s funny, I looked into Keto because I was on BPC for focus in the morning. (Being in IT, I’m usually vague in the morning, and do my best work at night).

Since being on Keto, I’ve kind of turned off BPC somewhat. I would have thought it was the other way around.

I used to gross my coworkers out by saying I put unsalted butter in my coffee. But I realised that’s because people associate a salty, oily substance with butter, which does sound gross. When I say I blend in “compressed cream” and coconut oil, it doesn’t sound so weird anymore…

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #33

Butter is just heavy cream with the whey removed . . . so, “whey” to go, bro!

I’m glad someone else posted about just drinking it with the oil floating on top. I actually don’t especially like coffee. I don’t hate it it’s just not something I love. I drink it because I have a 2 year old and I NEED it sometimes. Can’t be bothered to blend it though. The oil on top doesn’t taste like anything really and it feels nice on your lips…

Someone may be interested in trying my substitute. I cannot drink coffee, so I substitute a cup of hot chai tea made very strong.

First, I make an infusion of spices that I keep in the fridge: 2 quarts water boiled with 2 or 3 sticks of cinnamon and 1 Tablespoon each: whole black peppercorn, whole allspice, whole cloves, cardamom seeds, star anise. Boiled until reduced by half, then strained into a quart jar. The whole house smells like heaven while it boils!

I heat up a bit (about 1/4 cup) in the microwave before pouring it into a large cup of strong black tea, add a splash of heavy cream and a couple drops of liquid stevia with vanilla flavor.

I suppose one could add butter and oil, but that seems a bit excessive to me.

I love coffee, but it gives me terrible indigestion. And now I am totally addicted to my morning tea.

I am so gonna try this, without the tea since I don’t tolerate caffeine. Sounds yummy! Thanks for the recipe!

(Jeannie Oliver) #38

I hope you enjoy it. Do keep in mind that regular black tea has only slightly less caffeine than coffee. You can buy a decaffeinated tea of course.
