How many here drink bulletproof coffee and like it? I have a recipe for it but I am scared to try it because it just seems gross. I am really picky about my coffee and I now hate drinking coffee from going on keto. I can’t have my usually delicious creamer that is so full of everything bad for you. I need to find something better than heavy whipping cream in my coffee because drinking coffee used to be my favorite part of the day and now I have a hard time finishing one cup.
Bulletproof coffee or what else
I also never drank coffee as a carb burner unless it was heavily flavored and rather sweet.
Now 99% of the time I make my own with a french press and use a milk frother or immersion blender to get it to mix. I never knew about HWC before keto, so the whole creamyness is still pretty novel and pleasant even 16 months into this.
I will say that that which I hate the most about coffee that’s drip brewed, the burnt ash taste, is nowhere present in french press coffee. So if I don’t want to add any fat, it’s still pretty nice.
Butter in coffee is decadent! And you can add some unsweetened cocoa powder also. Taste like heaven!!!
I have BPC in the morning. I usually have it at 6:20 am when I get up. I use coffee, Torani sugar free vanilla sweetener, MCT oil, butter, and whipping cream (all 1 TBSP) whipped with a hand aerator. I was the same at first - butter in my coffee???
But it is delicious!
Charley, you’ve almost persuaded me to try it.
I do agree that a french press makes fantastic coffee.
Love the idea of fat in coffee, but have never felt compelled to do it - I got down to just drinking coffee black, over the years (even as a carb-burner), and now I’ve been thankful for some pretty evil, bitter stuff. Still so much better than nothing.
And if you wanted a health reason to do it french press, get a press that is made of glass, not plastic (not sure if acrylic is as good as glass) and the chems that they use to bleach the paper filters for drip brew are the worst…
BPA, and dioxins…
I really like butter and hwc and then I froth it in my bullet. I’ve now cut out the hwc and am doing coconut milk which also tastes quite nice.
Love my BPC. Pre-keto it was all about coffee but more so the Cremora!!!
Now it’s coffee, HWC, butter, coconut oil, a splash of vanilla, some truvia and blend away!
Nope. When I have it, it’s HWC or half and half in a pinch. Have decreased sweetener use with that. From 1/half cup to 1/cup.
Progressively backing away from sweetness is worth doing.
I drink a coffee with some heavy cream (extra thick Devon cream) and also some cacao butter in it. To be honest the oil slick on top looks vile, but I chug it down, also my lips don’t need any lip balm for a while.
I drink bulletproof coffee and really like it. But, I do like HWC just a bit more. Got to agree with Charley’s recommendation for the French Press, it is the best. Just use a good coffee. BP coffee blended so it is a nice and frothy is lovely. You can add a bit of cinnamon or vanilla if you are used to flavored creamers.
I started out drinking coffee with a great deal of milk and enough sugar to leave about a half-inch in the cup once the coffee was gone. It took a couple of decades to wean myself of the additives, but now I can’t bear the taste of coffee that has either milk or sugar in it.
After being on these forums for a while, I finally tried putting heavy cream (also known as whipping cream) in my coffee. It’s not bad, but I really enjoy the taste of plain coffee.
My wife used to say that I could practically stand my spoon upright in my tea or coffee with the amount of sugar I used to put in it.
If you haven’t tried it, definitely take the plunge.
Good butter is 85% milk solids, most people het grossed out by the idea of butter in coffee because when they think of butter they think of salted vegetable oils and thickener. Once blitzed, the oil has a great texture. You won’t look back
I was leery at first too. But, now I can’t imagine drinking it any other way. I use kerrygold butter (1 Tbsp), 2 Tbs of either coconut milk or heavy whipping cream, and a sprinkle of cinnamon… it’s delicious… I’ve seen that some people add that Torani sugar free syrup to theirs too, I guess you could try that to add a little sweetness or flavoring…
I have been known to put a blip of Torani’s sugar free S’mores in my coffee on occasion
You need a decent blitzer to get good emulsification of the fat. I used to use one of those little coffee frothers that takes two AA batteries and, although it worked OK after lots and lots of “frothing”, it wasn’t until I made my BPC in a bullet blender (plugs into the wall and uses about 800W of power) did my BPC really become enjoyable.
