Breathing while running

(David Cooke) #21

Yeah, that’s more or less what I do. If I decide to take it easy, I can generally manage my 2 Km on the 4, 4 rhythm, if I want to push my lap time then I’ll start at 3, 3 and often find myself on 2, 2 towards the end. What I found important was to start immediately breathing the way you intend to go on, no use running 300 metres and finding yourself out of breath because you aren’t concentrating.
Pacing yourself is the key and this is (for me) most easily measured through my breathing. Often without realising I find that I have gone from 4, 4 to 3, 3, or 2, 2, meaning I am able to put in that extra effort without over doing it.
